  1. Owner Cutting Edge get my vote for best hook out there hands down. You aren't fishing unless you have an Owner tied on!
  2. I would use some braid with any frogs/toads. I use a 7 ft MH rod for my toads w/ 30lb power pro and a 7ft H rod for frogs w/ 50 lb power pro line. Like above mentioned an extremely powerful hook set is needed for frogs. I have found that you can set the hook quicker w/ these baits than you can w/ the plastic toads. This is because I have caught better quality fish on a frog than I have a toad and your going to really have to turn a big fish when fishing grass. So, you might lose some fish ( thats justs topwater fishing) but your going to either miss him or lose him in the grass. If you miss him, you have another chance. I would love that second chance plus you will land a lot more quality w/ the frog. Toads are one of the most fun ways of fishing. The best toad out there is either a horny toad or a gambler cane toad. The cane toad displaces more water where as the horny toad is quicker buzzing type of toad. Be sure to use an Owner Cutting Edge 5/0 hook. **** luck!

What do you guys use these for? flipping maybe when you dont need to worry about pegging a weight? i could just see me missing a fish because of that big ole' weight getting in the way.
  4. Midday you might could get a few to bite. I like jigs and t-rigged plastics in prespawn and also spinner baits work really well.
  5. Oh ok. So the spinner just creates more drag and allows the bait to walk?
  6. I agree that it needs legs. When working these over matted vegetation, that little spinner will do you no good. IMHO
  7. I'm like everyone else here, Tru Tungsten is the way to go. If I am under a kind of tight budget the only time I use them is in open water when I really need to feel the bottom. Flippin using these weights is good because they are sensitive and like 40% smaller than lead. Actually, I find myself flipping using lighter weights with tungsten for some reason. Probably because the smaller size slips through better. Anytime I Carolina Rig I use these weights also.
  8. I'm definattly checkin those out! they look SWEEEEEEEEET!
  9. I agree w/ wicky and avid. Save your money and buy something better. All that youll catch w/ those thing is your wallet.
  10. Paca chunks, Zoom swimming chunks, yum buzz frogs and Uncles joshs have all produced evenly for me. its just a person preference. I have caught bass on a jig with an 8" ribbon tail worm on the back of it. Just experiment w/ different trailers and find you 2-3 that you can stick with.
  11. I love t-rigging them in deep rock flats. I have caught at least 70 bass this year doing that. I also like Okeechobee Bug. I have also flipped them w/ great success but i find that most of my bites come on the fall because these baits kinda roll over on their side after sitting there for a second.
  12. Yall have it good, when I have a hot bait I go to Dicks and Academy and buy every single one that they have. Ill get home and have 130 bucks worth of trick worms or flukes or ikas. SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME!!!! haha
  13. Put 'em on a 1/4 oz jig head and start swimming ;D ;D ;D I think they call them saltwater probably for the saltwater stripes and redfish. The reds tear these things to pieces. I have had just about as much success w/ them in freshwater as I have for bull reds.
  14. captaininsaneo, good choice of goal for this month. Tie on a spook and walk it straight back to the boat. After several fish you can establish a pattern and change up you retrieve based on that. If you cant walk the dog, tie on a Rapala popper. Those are easy to work, and my PB was caught on one. Throw it anywhere you like just make sure that you let it sit about 10 secs before you start your retrieve. Another good choice for summer fishing would be a rattletrap, big spinnerbaits, and 8"-12" t-rigged worms. I like red shad or tequila sunrise in darker water and green pumpkin in clearer water.
  15. ok thanks. What kind of line do yall like for swim baits? Braid or 20 to 25 Pline or other mono
  16. Ultimate Bluegill or one of the Gill series baits?

I think it was a Cotton Cordell Pencil Popper. I do know one thing, those things bring in the stripes from miles away. If the bass where you fish are extremely active, i would consider purchasing one. I have several and have caught bass from 1/2 lb all the way up to 6-8 on one of these things. I think the ones i have are about 8-10 inches long and i just stick with chrome w/ blue back.
  18. About how much do they cost and what kind of line do yall like to use for these baits? also does he make a color pattern w/ any kind of orange belly on it? that would really match the hatch. if he does i will deffinalty have to order one!
  19. I was out fishing at one of two lake in my neighborhood and i saw two 10+ lbers and in the lakes they eat brim. What kind of swimbaits would you use for these bass? I have a rod that can throw up to 3 oz baits. im looking for something kinda cheap nothing fancy but i just want to catch a PB and a new lake record. (I havent told anyone)
  20. this came at a perfect time because i fished a new lake today and i saw TWO! 10+ i tried throwing an white flippin tube t rigged w/ a 3/8 tungsten weight unpegged but didnt get either one tommorow is a whole new day though ill get both of um maybe????? nah but i wish
  21. For a casting setup, i dont think you can beat the Bass Pro finesse bait casting combo. it works great you could get two, a 6' ML for drop shotting and a 7' M for shakey head fishing.
  22. try it on some 10ln XL it can make a HUGE differance!
  23. To start off with; I am a low budget kind of guy. I dont ever myself spending over $300 for a combo. I am looking for a high capacity reel to put either 30-50 lb braid or 17-25 lb florocarbon/mono to flip with. Only guidlines: Its got to last me for a while. Its got to hold a good bit of line. Its got to be At LEAST 6.4.1 Its got to be be at more $130 thanks for any help you can provide me with!
  24. I would use a 5/0 cutting edge Owner for the toads and a 4/0 gammy for the big plastics.
  25.
