Looking for a good smallmouth bass fishing rod and reel.
Sometimes I wonder if I'm getting enough air.

Looking for a good smallmouth bass fishing rod and reel.
What's your budget? My smallie-snatcher is a 7' medium fast Expride A with a 2500 Stradic FL. It's a fantastic rod. Makes me wish I didn't always gravitate toward the baitcaster. But. I always do.

How do you break off on purpose?
I just tagged myself in the twig n' berries this past weekend straightening a hook on a snag. Might have preferred it coming for my face if I'm honest... ------------------- I always use a tool (pliers or something) and wrap the line around it and pull. 50lb braid / 12lb mono leader. Usually.

Sit or stand ?
I fish out of a kayak and planned on standing but honestly just got comfortable casting from a sitting position and don't really stand much at all. Granted, my balance isn't the greatest either. I do stand when bank fishing. But I'm always mobile when I do that. I walk the shoreline. near constant motion.

What's to like about a kayak?
I had a boat and was considering buying another one. I might not be able to afford a $75,000 machine but I could afford a modest one if I wanted it. Talked to some dealers and even started the process. But what held me back was two things: 1. The waters I want to fish and enjoy the most you can't take a bass boat on. A jet boat maybe. 2. Simplicity. I LOVE throwing the SS127 in the back of the pickup and heading out. Two rods, a small tackle bag, a PFD, a paddle, and nothing else. Snarky people like to say that kayaks are boats for people who can't afford boats. Meh. I'm sure for some that's true. And that's cool. Whatever gets you on the water. That's not the case with me though and I kind of find it insulting because of how much I love the sport. I intended to buy the kayaks and still add a boat. And I still might. But I haven't yet because I've been so happy with what's been working for me. And what's been working for me is a kayak.

Kayak dilemma
I believe in the high position the Bonafide seat is about 15". I'm 5-7" and I'm flat foot on the deck, it's perfect. If you're taller it wouldn't be as perfect but still... I mean it's a kayak. The yak-gods are telling you to go get a Bonafide haha. South-Central PA I would check with Shanksmare. Bought a Kaku Voodoo from them and they are awesome people. They carry Bonafide. According to their online list they have the SS127 in Venom and Hondo Orange. Shanksmare Inventory

Kayak dilemma
What the Bonafide has going for it above all other boats IMHO is comfort and stability. I don't think it paddles the best or is the most nimble (but it does pretty good at both considering the size). But it's laid out for fishing, is rock solid, and the seat... honestly, it's nicer than what I have in my living room. It's a dream spending 8 hours in it. I mostly fish shallow rivers (like the Susky and Juniata). The SS127 does fine in those environments.

Starter Baits/Lures for Streams
Nailed it. I could live with just this and a few Berkley Choppo 90 to be honest.

BUYING NON-RESIDENT FISHING LICENSES ONLINE
Trying to figure out what I need to kayak fish in Virginia and so far it's a bit of a headache. Heading down early June and planning to take the yaks and fish Briery Creek and Sandy River. Looks like I just need a non-resident license (for each fisherman) and a use permit (for each yak). I tried emailing the Virginia DWR but I've gotten no response.

What’s your typical kayak distance while fishing?
Depends. Moving water I usually like about 8-10 miles. A lake where I'm actually paddling... we don't have very big lakes so 2-4 miles total probably. I can usually put in close enough to where I want to fish that I just simply don't have a lot of paddling.

Have you thought of moving to a warmer state??
Funny... I've been thinking about moving to Virginia lol. Cabin fever is real. The struggle is real.

Your usual fishing spot. How far a drive is it?
About 5 minutes from the Kiski River. Middle Allegheny from Kinzua down to Parker is about 1.5-2 hours depending on where I’m launching. If I’m forced to do a lake Yellow Creek and Lake Arthur are about an hour away.

Kayak with micro power pole
When I ordered my two Voodoo I did so through Austin Kayak with mixed results. Dealing the Kaku direct is absolutely the way to go. One of the Voodoo was missing the seat bolts. I emailed Kaku at like 3:30PM or something. At like 4:00PM I got an email back with a phone number asking me to call and sort out. It was Kevin's mobile number. He's a cool dude. I talked with him a little. He's so laid back and mellow. But really takes his company and product seriously. It's everything to him.

Kayak with micro power pole
You dealing with Kaku directly? Kevin (the owner) is fantastic people. Looks like Austin Kayak has a Wahoo 12.5 in stock.

Kayak with micro power pole
RS117 is power pole ready and a good river yak by all accounts. The Wahoo is also a good choice. Kaku is an excellent company.

6 baits
Rage bug is almost interchangeable with the Menace for me. I like the slightly smaller profile of the menace for my waters (northern shallow rivers mostly).

What is your kayak fishing net?
Frabill 3671-P. Like $20 on Amazon.

Kayak people. How many rods do you bring?
Yeah, the YakAttack Omega holders lock them in. I bought them for that but then I just kept laying them on the deck anyway. Quicker access. I'm always paddling down the river and see something I want to cast at.
-
What ruins a fishing trip for you more than anything?
People. I don't even like seeing them when I'm fishing.

Kayak people. How many rods do you bring?
Two, a medium heavy casting and a medium spinning. I'm struggling "not" to add a third because I really would rather keep it simple. I take a backpack with a Cal Coast Battlebox and two 3700 boxes. No electronics. No power poles or motors. I don't even use rod holders. I just lay them on the deck in front of me. I have two Omega Rod Holders and I don't even take them with me. I probably should though. I'm gonna end up in the drink cursing my luck eventually because I lost a grand in fishing rods...
