  1. I've never used one, but the Black Max and the Silver Max seem to be good, entry level bait casters. We sold a ton of Silver Max's (slight upgrade from the Black Max) when I worked at BPS. I don't remember ever taking one back.
  2. Where did you get your carpeted bunks? I'm going to have to replace mine this fall.
  3. Jigs are my weakness. I've caught my pb smallie (6 1/2 lb) on a Denny Baurer black and blue jig, but that's it...the only one. Must have been the dumbest smallie in the lake!
  4. I can't judge it either. To me, sometimes it seems like the smaller bass hit harder initially. The big boys and girls seem to "bulldog" a lot harder.
  5. My wife picked up a cover for my 16' X 50" Jon boat at Academy. I think that it was around $50.00. I know that it's not a fitted, factory canvas cover, but so far so good. It doesn't leak. West Marine has a better cover for a little over $200.00. I might try it if this one starts giving me issues.
  6. I'm pretty doggone excited about this!
  7. I received a Millennium "Palma Horse" seat (B-300) today. I'm going to give it a shot.
  8. Shimano_1 is 100% correct about the used boat market. Just this week, I put my old 12" jon boat with a trolling motor and battery, no trailer in the front yard with a for sale sign on it. Within 45 minutes it was sold, full price to the first guy that stopped. Two days later I did the same thing with my old kayak! All that to say, if you find a rig that you like, take it to the lake. If it performs well and you can afford it, buy it. With an older rig, there's always going to be little things here and there that need repaired or replaced, that's just part of the game. Try to stay away from the big things that need repaired or replaced.
  9. I prefer to stand as much as possible. The years, injuries and arthritis in my knees and hips will probably have me sitting soon.
  10. Congratulations!!!
  11. Prayers for Chris, Jimmy and all of the Houston family. Sorry for the edit, I just had the opportunity to watch the entire video. My heart breaks for Jimmy and his family. Praying that God lays his healing hands on Chris, Jimmy and the Houston family. I had the chance to meet Jimmy years ago at a B.A.S.S. tournament on Old Hickory Lake.
  12. YouTubers only? John at Creek Fishing Adventures. The man absolutely loves to go fishing, usually in small to medium size creeks and rivers. Sometimes it's blue gill, sometimes catfish. Most of the time he's bass fishing. Doesn't seem to care if they're big or small, he just likes going fishing.
  13. I'm a MaCallan man myself! Nothing beats a MaCallan and a good cigar. Love to sit outside the tent, watch the river flow by while enjoying both. You're right, 12 is good and 18 is even better.
  14. I've never used dryer sheets, but I have used moth ball. Put some in a few disposable bowls around the interior and bilge are before putting the cover on. Scattered some moth balls about on the ground. No mice, no insects, no squirrels, no cats... nothing.
  15. When I worked at BPS, we couldn't keep the 30 count bags of green pumpkin in stock! I use the small 3" size creek fishing.
  16. No buddy, those are boot foot waders. Neoprene is great for cooler water, but with warmer weather coming on I'd be looking for breathable.
  17. TN charges sales tax on all online orders too.
  18. I just checked my new BPS catalog. Looks like they no longer carry either of my waders. I got my breathable's on sale for $79.00. My 5mm neoprenes were around the same, but I've had them for years. I've had my neoprene BPS waders for 10+ years. I've owned my breathable BPS waders for about 7 years now. Neither leak at all. I'm the first to say that is not the normal life expectancy, but I take care of my stuff. No matter what you do, don't store them folded. I never fold mine, even when wet. I got some heavy duty wire hangers from the dry cleaners, the type that they hang blankets or comforters on. I hang them to dry and I store them one hangers.
  19. You can get a good pair of breathable waders at Bass Pro, Cabela's or Academy for under $100.00. I only use stocking foot waders and choose to buy good wading boots. If your feet aren't comfortable, you're not comfortable. Makes for a long day.
  20. If his boat was having problems and he chose to go out anyway, this is 100% on the deceased father and no one else. I hate to say that as he lost his life, and that of his son and the other young man.
  21. I do a ton of really stupid stuff, especially for a 61 year old. However, I have a hard and fast rule about gators, Crocs, poisonous snakes, etc. Leave to alone! I can buy more $12.00 baits.
  22. Is a hybrid Smallmouth/ Largemouth what is refered to as a "mean mouth"?
  23. Glenn, That's a great question. I was taught to never grab the line, being told that by doing so it gives the bass the advantage. That being said, I've seen you, Keri and numerous pro's grab their line. Heck, I don't know if it makes a difference or not. At this point it's just muscle memory and habit for me. Good topic.
  24. I bought a copy several years ago. I agree, it's a great book, re-read it and Billy Westmoreland's "Them Ol Brown Fish" every winter.
