Possessed fishing line?
So today I decided to buy a new rod and reel which was a dobyn fury with a Daiwa legalis 1000 reel for fishing ned rigs and other finesse rigs. After spooling it with 10# sufix advanced hyper copolymer it became possessed. If even a small amount of slack is left in the line it shoots out 2 yards of line. I have been using baitcaster for a few years now so I haven't dealt with spinning gear in a while but I never remember line shooting off my spool like this before. Anyone have an idea why or how to stop it? I initially thought maybe I overfilled my spool as I filled it slightly more than I used to but it's down to half a spool and still doing it. I tried running a bunch out and stretching it which seemed to help a little but it's still not great.

Nightcrawlers
A slip bobber and a crawler with 3+ inches hanging down. Keep it just above the weeds. Can be a pain if there’s a lot of panfish but it works. I run in to a lot of people that are surprised seeing me and others fishing smallies in a local river with a night crawler but it works. Catch the occasional carp or catfish but the crawler catches more bass than lures there probably 60-70% of the time

Do You Eat Your Bass?
Despite putting a hook through their mouth and dragging them through the water I have a soft spot for fish. I almost always catch and release. I occasionally will go fishing for whitefish, bluegill , or catfish and keep a few to eat. The bass by me don’t taste that good.

Motor vs boat.
Good news is I got it out of gear now and shifting good. Bad news is in the process a piece in the control box broke and now I’m on the hunt for a new piece or new control box which isn’t going well.

What are your favorite rod brands?
Love my St. Croix Rods. Just got a Dobyn a couple weeks ago and it equals St. Croix in my opinion.

Latest Color Research (Bass Vision)
That would be interesting to put to the test with things like senkos. Switch casts between solid black and black and blue and see if there’s a difference. If there would or wouldn’t be a consistent difference that would be cool to see first hand to prove this study

Motor vs boat.
Mercury mark 55A. I called a couple places to see if they would look at it and they said they won’t even look at an outboard that old. Thinking about taking it apart myself to see if I can figure it out.

Motor vs boat.
What I’m seeing though is crap used like 40 year old 5 hp motors for the same price as used boat with a 40 hp motor, trolling motor, sonar, trailer, and everything else to go with it. And new motors alone are not worth buying at all. It’s crazy really.

Motor vs boat.
I have an old boat with an outboard from the 50’s that’s stuck in gear and I can’t even find anyone willing to look at it. So I started looking at outboard motors to replace it and what I’m finding is either really old motors under 10 hp for 700 dollars or newer motors that cost more than buying an entire boat with the same motor and everything else including. I don’t understand this at all. Why do motors cost more than buying an entire boat with the motor? Am I better off just getting a newer boat?

No Love For Spoons?
I fish spoons for pike in the same places I fish for bass and generally I catch a lot of pike and very few bass on them. Not sure why but that’s how it is for me. I like spoons they just aren’t in my bass box. If you look at me profile pick it’s my go to spoon for pike.

The latest sale thread
I ordered a bunch of zoom plastics from Academy today. They are still on sale plus 20% off code. PayPal is not working from their checkout for some reason.

Daiwa Fuego CT or Tatua CT for $30 more
Both good reels. I like may Tatula better. I do not agree that the TWS is a gimmick. I have a Tatula and cabelas arachnid that have it and I think it helps when casting on a windy day. Might not make as much difference for really experienced casters. But it’s not necessary so I would say find the reels somewhere and see which one feels better in your hand

Building My Tackle Box
I good base for starting IMO 1. 3/0 EWG worm hooks for Texas rig and 1/0 weedguard hooks for wacky rig with plastic worms of your choosing (senkos, yum dingers, zoom) 2. Some Rat-l-traps (or other lipless crankbaits) in craw color and depending on location either a shad or bluegill imitation. 3. Squarebill crankbaits same colors as #2 I know people on here love Tackle Warehouse but really depending on where you live that’s not the most economical. I’m fortunate enough to live near a cabelas, Scheels, and numerous sporting goods stores with large lure selections. I only order lures if they are on sale.

Knockoffs vs Original Cranks
Another great point. I have had cheap lures where 1 has completely different action than the next. Where as a better company like Rapala will give you the same action almost every time

Exclusive Reels
More like 2 Chevy trucks with different paint jobs and one has different style headlights. Same reel just different cosmetic. Not to say their is no exclusive reel that’s different. Daiwa makes cabelas branded reels and they are very similar to the Daiwa reels. I think they are actually made a little different though.

Knockoffs vs Original Cranks
This is exactly right. Knock offs just don’t have the same action. There are some that work but I stick with the originals

Trilene XL
Personally I will never put Trilene line on my reels again. I’ve tried it twice and it was terrible. The memory was the worst I’ve ever had. First time I thought I must have just got a bad spool but after the second time I was not happy. Then a friend had the same experience so I won’t buy it.

Your 5 favorite setups?
7’2” MH/ moderate action for crankbaits, spinners, topwater. 7’ M/fast action for plastics, jigs. I own about 12 rods and atleast 7 are 7’ Medium power fast action rods. I used to use them for literally every technique and species.

Does an upper end Baitcaster make you better?
It won’t necessarily make you a better fisherman but for me I can say 100% going from a $50 dollar casting reel my first times trying them to a $140 dollar reel made a HUGE difference. It made it so much easy. Casted farther with no backlashes compared to frequent backlashes which ultimately means much more time on the water and more fun during that time.
