Alternative to Photobucket
I use image resize+. It works great on my iPhone. Just pick a picture from your album, slide the top over to the percentage of shrinkage you need ( also shows the new total size), and then save it to your photo album. Then you can choose that one to put online. Works great for me. And yes, I did say “shrinkage” ?.

best top waters this time of year?
Not sure where all you guys are fishing right now but they’ll need to be pretty aggressive to bust through 18” of ice and hit my topwaters right now. Maybe I’ll wait a bit before I toss out the frog!

Eye-hooked bass
I have a 6lb smallie on my wall that I caught years ago, hammered a spinnerbait in a foot of water and was fat as ever. His one eye had been wrecked and healed right over years before that. Clearly it didn’t hurt him much.

advice on Humminbird setup/install/buying
Not sure about the networking because I have two helix’s, but the best route for transducers is to get the high speed 2d transducer and the splitter cable. Make sure you get the splitter for mega units, then you can install the mega ducer up above the hull bottom and have the 2d for high speed running. Either mount it on the transom or if it’s a fiberglass boat, you could mount it inside the hull to shoot through.

I’m getting antsy!
Good thing you don’t live where I do, still 18” of ice here ?

What's your confidence lure?
I’m gonna go the opposite way of most guys, and say something fast to cover water. I’d say it’s a tie between a spinnerbait and a jerkbait. I’ll still use a lot of slower presentations but if I’m on an new lake or just trying to sort out what the fish are doing that particular day, I’m going to cover as much water as possible and try to get it in front of as many fish as I can. That’s my “confidence” way of doing it, and it’s a rare day I can’t produce some fish on one of those two baits.

Beer
A coffee start, water in the boat then either Rickards Red or Keith’s Red, there also some great craft brews around here too, like Muskoka cream ale ?

Because I love bass fishing and to a lot of you guys I’d be considered way up north.

A Largemouth acting like a smallmouth
Last spring on Georgian Bay I caught a smallie about 3lbs off a fallen tree in a foot of water, next cast to the same tree was a pike about 30” long and on the third cast was a rainbow trout about 2lbs. I’ve never seen anything like that before, except maybe in the bass pro shops aquarium ?.

Berkley Chigger Craws
They both work great. One way I’ve used the crazy legs a lot for smallies is to drag it on a football head across rocks/gravel in the summer and fall. They slurp it up, especially in anything closely resembling your lakes craw colours. I like the green pumpkin the best for my area lakes.

A Largemouth acting like a smallmouth
My experiences are very similar to Scott F’s. Lots of lakes up here with both species in them, and you can often get both in the same spot, especially if there’s either weeds or wood mixed with rock or gravel areas. Also, on Georgian Bay where I fish a lot, in the dead heat of summer you can find some absolute pig smallies in a few feet of water and thick weedbeds acting like largemouth.

Best Crankbaits to start with? MI and Ontario
They will all work at one time or another, but I’ve had good luck the last couple years with the scatter rap and strike king squarebills.

Replacement treble hooks
Put two of those on and your arm might end up in the lake! ?

Hydrofoil
I just ordered a Chris Bailey foil from CB Marine Designs in Louisiana. I read about them on another forum and they look awesome and can be completely customized for the colour of motor etc. There’s a thread on that site where there’s over 10000 views and it’s all super good comments about his foils. My boat is a bit sluggish when there’s a couple extra people and a full livewell, and wants to porpoise a bit with the extra weight at lower speeds, but my prop is setup perfectly for wot when there’s only one or two people in the boat ( which is about 90% if he time), so I only need that little bit of help now and again. From what I’ve read, there wasn’t one time someone lost any top speed with his foil because it’s completely out of the water once your up on plane.

Post a photo a day!
The open water looks fabulous ( ours is still under ice here), but the shoreline not so much.

The snow flea's are out!
We see them all the time up here, all winter long too. Even when it’s pretty cold out they’re still out there, hopping all over like pepper flakes gone mad.

Our money is like Monopoly money to yours, that’s why it costs a fortune to have nice fishing gear here ( not that it doesn’t stop me from buying it though ?).

Opnions on these two boats?
Don’t think you can go wrong with either, but it sounds like you already have your mind made up. I had a Triton, it was an awesome boat for me at the time.

Vexus Boats?
I’ve run a Lund pro v 1900 and now run a Smokercraft pro mag ( deep v) quite a bit on Georgian Bay. When you’re on the “outside”, which is the main part of the bay out from all the islands/shoals, it can get snarly. I’ve trolled in 12’ rollers that when you drop to the bottom of the trough, you’re literally in a huge bowl of water. My boat has a deep enough front that it cuts the smaller stuff and it just climbs over the larger ones. I couldn’t imagine ever trying to head out there with any sort of bass style hull, either aluminum or glass. Used to see lots of guys spearing waves on Simcoe with larger bass boats while I cruised along nice and dry in the Lund. Most boats are built for certain conditions, doesn’t mean you can’t use them in non optimum conditions, just gotta use common sense and drive a bit different.

**The Official 2018 Ice-Out Thread**
Up here in central Ontario we’ve been getting beautiful sunshine for days now and it’s supposed to continue for a while, only problem is the temps have stalled at -8 to -15c at nights and barely above freezing at day with a stiff breeze. It’s not supposed to break much until early-mid April apparently. Last year I had the boat in on April 2nd, not gonna happen this year ?.
