  1. I just posted this in another thread actually: 10-15lb Power Pro Braid to 4-6lb Yo-Zuri Hybrid offers me the best results with spinning gear at a good price. 10lb PP = 2lb diameter mono equivalent 15lb PP = 4lb diameter mono equivalent 4lb YZH = about 7.5lb breaking strength 6lb YZH = about 11.9lb breaking strength Use the leader if you need abrasion resistance and/or if visibility is an issue. Straight braid otherwise. ... And like MNFisher, I also use straight Yo-Zuri as well, but it does - not so much require - but performs very well with KVD L&L (as far as dealing with memory). ... Fluoro free household over here. Yuck.

  3. The super salts sink noticably easier and faster. Especially with wind.
  4. Why were you using someone's phone hot spot? If you are out of data and/or service in a tournament in which you need data and service to upload your catches, these things will happen. Sorry to hear this anyways. I'm afraid no system is perfect and someone will always walk away unhappy and feeling like they've been unjustly left behind.
  5. Our state is truly sad, pathetic, and useless. One day I will join the exodus.
  6. For excellent Whopper Plopper footage, ideas, and ways to fish it, where, when, and how on the rivers, watch NDYakAngler on YouTube. He is the king of River Smallies on the Whopper Plopper. He was slaying them just as well with the 90 before the 75 came out. With the release of the 75 last year, I thought for sure my 90s would become obsolete, but what I have found is that once in awhile, for whatever reason, sometimes the 90 gets hit when the 75 doesn't. The 75 is far better and the one I use most often, though. Anyways, NDYakAngler just posted a new video 14 hours ago. He caught 5 20 inchers on the 75 in one day.
  7. My beloved Vermillion is finally almost back to normal water levels. Fishing was good today and yesterday.
  8. Depends on what size squarebill and where it's being fished.
  9. The Okuma EVX 6'8" MH/MF-F for $110 fits the bill perfectly for a rod that does both well and is under 7'. One of my favorite rods.
  10. Maybe this is why I find my 7's useless. Maybe I should trade them or sell them to get 8's and actually dedicate those setups. I find no difference between 6 and 7 in bottoms and frogs.
  11. I use 6.3:1 and 6.4:1 for almost everything. I have a couple 7.3:1 I got for bottom contact baits and frogging. If I'm honest, I find 7.x:1 to be useless in the sense that I don't like them for moving baits at all, and I do not notice any difference whatsoever in my ability to hookup with bottom contact baits qnd frogs between them at the 6's. That whole "pick up the line faster" thing is silly to me unless you need every single possible advantage if you're fishing for big money. The idea of reeling in line faster to cast back out there faster gets an Owen Wilson "wow" from me. I regret the 7's in the sense that none of my setups is dedicated to solely one thing and I find the 6's make me happy with everything and the 7's don't (moving baits).
  12. I like the original on a shaky head and the salted for a weightless trick worm presentation especially if it's windy out. For weighted Texas rigs it doesn't matter for me.
  13. Doesn't even come close to the budge in the OP.
  14. Sounds like a drag issue to me then. A branch isn't running the other direction. It's either way too loose or broken in general. And yes drag is the star on the side of the reel.
  15. Z-Man SlingBladeZ run true as can be and don't roll. However, they come in double Willow or Willow/Colorado.
  16. I'm sorry if this sounds insulting, but I have to ask, do you know what drag is and do you have it set properly? If it's super loose and the fish is running, it isn't coming in or is coming in very slowly.
  17. It caught most of my biggest SMB last year in the rapids of a river dam. White water and murky to muddy otherwise. Swimming it rather quickly with an eratic hop retrieve the whole way to combat the fast water. There's no limit to it. Those fish are more incredible than we realize, and so is the Ned Rig.
  18. Holy Mother of run-on sentence. I agree with checking your guides. There could be a crack somewhere causing line damage. Check out those periods.
  19. I used a Fenwick Eagle in 6'6" and a President 25 most of late last year for the Ned Rig and it was absolutely perfectly great for it. $60 rod, $60 reel. I never found myself needing more. Want is another matter. And most of the time I was lifting the fish from this wall without a net. The rod handled it perfectly fine. Fenwick and Pflueger are like Peanut Butter & Jelly.
  20. Fenwick Eagle and Pflueger President 25 = $120 total Daiwa Aird X and Daiwa Legalis 1000 = $125 total Fenwick HMG and Pflueger President 25 = $160 total 6'6" - 7' rod
  21. Why can't you fish anytime soon?
  22. It was an awesome day. I only caught them on two baits because they wouldn't stop smashing them: KVD 1.5 in Chart/Black and a Whopper Plopper 90 in Bone. Biggest 2 were 18 inches and only one was under 12 inches. On another positive note, I found a Booyah Lipless Crankbait in a Craw pattern. Someone must have just lost it because it was in perfect shape with no rust. All the hooks were sharp and they weren't stock hooks but I'm not sure who the replacement hooks were made by. On the way home I stopped at a pond and caught a 2lb LMB with it. All smiles.
  23. I don't know about you guys, but I'm winning it all. Just kidding, I'd get spanked. Those guys were masters. Less sensitive rods and found fish the old fashioned way. They would have been completely in tune with what they were doing more than many of us can comprehend. If you pay attention around here, all the best anglers are the older guys. They know what's up.
  24. Right place, right time, and patience. You have to locate the bass, be there at the right time, and be patient and methodical in your fishing. And heck, sometimes you can randomly pick a spot and it doesn't matter what you do or don't do, they eat your bait.
  25. For $50, you literally can't beat the Daiwa Aird X. If I had a $50 budget for rods, I'd get Aird X casting rods with Fuego reels and Fenwick Eagle spinning rods with President reels. I got my son the Aird X / Fuego combo and it's excellent.
