What percent of your bait and tackle is homemade?
-0- I buy some custom jigs, but otherwise, everything I fish is produced by a "commercial" tacklemaker. 8-)

Re: Steez rod and reel purchase, did i make a $950 mistake?
Geez... I didn't have the patience to go through all the pics, but the first 20 or so are all laid out almost identically on the ground. None of the fish I saw were anything special either. What's up with that? Regarding the original question, the answer is clear: You ripped yourself off and paid too much. So, what's the point in asking if you simply dismiss the response? If you are just bragging about your ability to "spend money", you might be surprised how many guys on this Forum have comparable gear and multiple rigs. But, very few are foolish enough to pay "full-bore retail". :-?

big day for US soccer
The last soccer match I watched was for the World Cup (?) about a decade ago. After 4 or 5 boring hours and 3 (?) overtime periods the score was 0 - 0. The World Championship was then decided on a free shot or whatever it's called...Ba...Ba...Ba...B - O - R - I - N - G... :

Lifetime rod warranties
I expect to buy new rods and perhaps get rid of some over the years, but I am confident I will be fishing several of the rods I own for the rest of my life. MBR844C, PR844S and BCR854 are three I will always fish. 8-)

What's a "Beautiful" Reel?
Pantera61, Nothing personal, this thread is for fun and to showcase what everyone thinks is a "Beautiful" reel. We just have different tastes. The first reel in your post is the perfect example of something I don't care for at all. Just different strokes for different folks! Excuse me for a moment... ...better now 8-)

What's a "Beautiful" Reel?
I didn't want to hijack Micro's thread, so I started this one instead. Lot's of guys love the bling bling, but that's not my cup of tea. I like rod & reel combinations dark or shiny, but with simple lines. I guess fishing gear that looks more like guns. All of my Shimanos are like that, but to pick just two as representative, this is how I roll: Calais: http://www.***.com/descpageRLCSHIMANO-SHCA.html Core: http://www.***.com/descpageRLCSHIMANO-SCOCR.html So, post up a picture of your favorite style. 8-)

New Rod under 100$
Limited lifetime warranty. What you will win with a more expensive rod: More refinement Better components Better warranty Less weight Increased sensitivity More bait/technique specific models That 's what you win, but the gain is price related. In other words, it depends on how deep your pockets are and how much are you willing to spend. If I were a newcomer to the sport and didn 't have a whole lotta cash to blow knowing what I know now after trying several brands and multiple rods and didn 't have more or willing to spend more than a 100 bones to on a rod those would be my choices. Excellent post Raul! I hope a lot of our members see this and take your most excellent advice. Your explanation is very clear and as they say, "on spot!" -Kent 8-)

X-Rap
The X-Rap is designed to be fished fast with a "slashing" motion, perhaps representing a frantic baitfish trying to escape. Jerkbaits, in my mind at least, are baitfish at ease and unaware of danger. Video attached: http://www.rapala.com/products/luresdetail.cfm?modelName=x-rap&freshorsalt=Fresh The best suspending lure is the Pointer, but I fish the Husky Jerk, too. Like everyone, I started with the Smithwick Rogue and have built a fairly large collection over the years. However, I don't fish the Rogue anymore.

X-Rap
Rapala calls their X-Rap a "slash bait" not a jerkbait. I think several other jerkbaits are generally a much better choice. The only size I use is XR-8 and the only time I fish the lure is when fish are VERY active. My best outing ever with the X-Rap was fishing for German Brown Trout at night on the White River. In less than two hours I had seven bites and boated five browns over 5 lbs! 8-)

Berkley Lightning Rod?????
Don't buy an Ugly Stick. Be patient and keep an eye on our Flea Market. Better quality rods and reels at affordable prices pop up all the time. Here is a perfect example that is currently being offered for sale: http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1245502207 8-)

Your rod/reel/line arsenal
The Techna AV AVS70MM is definitely NOT the rod you need. I bought this specifically for throwing jerkbaits at night (baitcasting backlashes don't workout for me after dark). This Fenwick is built with quality components and what Fenwick considers "cutting edge technology" in the blank. This would make a fine spinning rod for all light and medium weight treble hook lures. For tubes and all soft plastics, you should buy Medium, MH or Heavy Power and Fast or X-Fast Action. The Fenwick Techna AV series are fine rods and were a GREAT VALUE before the prices were raised from around $160 to $210. At their current pricing point, these rods are not (price) competitive. St. Croix Avids are comparable rods for about $180. WHOA! I just saw this in our Flea Market. This is a GREAT deal: http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1245502207 8-)
