Annoying Elites?
Okay guys, this is the deal: It is our policy here at BassResource.com to support the professional fishermen. That means if you don't have something positive to say, take it somewhere else. This thread is closed. -Kent a.k.a. roadwarrior Global Moderator

Critical mass (bait monkey sufferer)
Ease your mind, you don't need to fish them all. I consider myself a "collector". 8-)

Which bait?
My top five: 1. Fat Ika, weightless & weedless 2. GYCB Senko, weightless & weedless 3. Gitzit (tube), T-rigged 4. GYCB Kreature, T-rigged 5. GYCB Kut-Tail, Shak-E2 jig head or T-rigged ** New bait for bigger bass: Rage Tail 10" Ananconda, T-rigged 8-)

Using unnatural baits.. Do they work?
Although "minnows" and "bugs" sometimes work at the same time, often one or the other is a significantly better choice. In the fall for example, minnow type baits rule. In the summer, it's soft plastics and jigs (bugs). Now that we have an explosion of choices in the swimbait category, that may change things a bit. BTW, I'm not suggesting that topwater or spinnerbaits aren't in the mix, but conditions or time of day may dictate their most appropriate selection. My comments in the first paragraph are simply generalizations. Right now I don't seem to have a clue at local ponds, I need to be on the Tennessee River! 8-)

Help me catch smallmouth.
Structure & current rule! Hardbaits: Jerk baits; X-Rap when they are very active, Pointers or Husky Jerks most of the time. Soft plastics: Fat Ika, Hula Grub, Gitzit, 5" Single Tail Grub. 8-)

A lot of people don't go to all the trouble you do to make spaghetti sauce. Just heat up some Ragu in the microwave and boil some noodles. What's the big deal, it's Italian!

I have 1 fishing setup.
We're going to have to wait for someone else to respond. I am not familiar with BPS rods and only recommend them when they are matched with Shimano reels and fit a specified pricing point. So, the first rig would meet my criteria, but I know very little about the second. 8-)

Anyone tried this JIG?
Not a chance unless it was given to me! Where I fish a marble would get hung-up. I don't mind losing jigs, but at $8 a pop, these do not seem "cost effective". 8-)

The Other Side Of The Coin
Generally, I only fish one or at the most, two lure classes on any outing (1 1/2 - 2 hours). The last three bass I caught were on a Karu VibraSpin. Otherwise, I fish minnow imitations (Mattlures Shad, spinnerbaits and Rat-L-Trap type lures) or jigs (crayfish imitations). My latest attempts have been Shak-E2 with various soft plastics. The problem, or at least my theory, is that the bass are suspending deep and only come to within casting distance on rare occasion to feed. If that's the case, timing is everything. 8-)

Fenwick Rods
The only Fenwick I have is a Techna AV AS70MM. This is a fine rod, comparable to the St. Croix Avid series. When their pricing point was $160, the rods were a great value. At $210, the rods are overpriced. 8-)

-- NASCAR --
Man, I don't know anymore, last season really burned me out. Too many terrible races, yellow flag finishes or worse, tire issues that make no sense and CHEATING! NASCAR has become a two tiered sport and the money always wins. Half the cars are nothing more than filler and most of those drivers have no chance of ever winning. Well, if all the lead cars come in on green and the race ends on yellow, like one race last year, some might finish one race in the top 10. On top of that, The Cars Of Tomorrow just don't inspire me or most fans. It seems the highlight of many races is the National Anthem and flyover! In a word, boring. >

3000-4000 series reels are unnecessary for bass fishing. They tend to be heavy and hold way too much line. Stick with 2500 series, designed for bass fishermen. 8-)

Critical mass (bait monkey sufferer)
Gotcha...Here's how I handle it: I have a small storage room in my garage. One wall is for rods, one has pegboard half way down with floor based shelving occupying the other half and another half wall. This is where I store my "reserves" in Plano boxes. I have two hard boxes for line, tools and collectibles so they resemble a usable tacklebox. Next is a XPS 3600 soft tackle bag where I have organized everything I might possibly use on a trip. Finally, a 12 X 8 box that opens on both sides and built with dividers. This is the box I actually take on the boat with stuff I plan to fish on a particular outing. I also carry a "man bag" with accessories: scale, camera, gloves, emergency rain gear, KVD Lure & Line Conditioner, extra knives, lighter, clippers, etc. In the end, I still end up fishing what I have tied on and rarely open the box except for soft plastics. You mentioned 10 lures that you use; that would be a high number for me. :-[

I don't fish in jeans either. I don't care too much for bling-bling, but that's just me. Otherwise, I care a lot about aesthetics...a lot. My preference is for rod & reel combinations to look like a gun and perfect in every way. I'm particularly fond of black and silver. My line color matches, too! Dress, purse and shoes...just like my girls. 8-)

Check out who's comming to KY Lake in April...
I think we have around 50 members, but they are not posted until checks are received. I hope everyone will take a moment and think about joining the group. It's a lot more than just fishing! 8-)
