  1. Yep, and this seems to be a common characteristic for these lures. 8-)
  2. Spend some time in the BassResource.com Library, "Fishing Articles" and "Tacklebox" at the top of the page. We have an extensive collection of tips that are written for both newbies and seasoned anglers. I think you will find the topics to be both interesting and helpful. Good luck! 8-)
  3. Welcome aboard! You bought a great reel, I'm sure you will really like it, too! 8-)
  4. Hmm... I heard some good reports on the Yo-Zuri Drum...I have owned two... Lost both on the first cast...Darn things didn't work at all for me! From now on I'll only throw them on a lake, recovering lures on the river is not often an option.
  5. Great post! Where have you been? Glad to see you back... -Kent
  6. Yeah, I'm putting a package together for Muddy and I warned him that some of the lures have not produced for me. Generally, I would rather throw them away than give them away, but maybe his guys will have better luck in PA than I've had. 8-)
  7. Lots of memory from being tightly wound on a relatively small circumference. It's not something I would actually like to "fish", but I have never had line break near the spool even when I have been broken off trying to retrieve a hang-up. 8-)
  8. Does anyone else notice that this particular type of lure is very finicky? It seems to me that individual lures are either killer or worthless. Same color, size, brand, apparent action, etc. I have several that I have fished when the action was hot without so much as a touch; tied on a "tried and true" and BINGO! As a specific example, I have a LC Max500 in "Sexy Shad" before KVD made the pattern famous! I really like fishing this lure because you can nearly spool a reel on the cast. I'll guess that I have fished it 50+ hours over the past several years, producing only a small fish or two. On the other hand, an XCalibur XR50 (chrome silver/ orange) is my "can't miss if they're biting" lure. Go figure... 8-)
  9. Man, you got it goin'! 8-)
  10. South of the Mason-Dixon Line it is illegal to cook meat in an oven or gas grill (outdoor oven). 8-)
  11. Yep, I took "dumb" to a new level. I never have had any luck with the Live Pointer so I bought two more when I found them on sale! Man, I have never fished them and they'll probably never get wet.
  12. Best sauce: Gates Original http://www.gatesbbq.com/ Best rub: Oklahoma Joe's Squeal http://www.oklahomajoesbbq.com/ 8-)
  13. The CH50MG has plenty of line capacity for bass fishing. You will love the reel, everyone that has one does. At today's sale prices, this is the best value in the entire Shimano line-up! 8-)
  14. Ditto on the Ikas! I bought 3 bags of those things, and after a half-dozen attempts, I haven't caught squat. Not even one bite. The fish were there too. After 1+ hours (per trip) of unproductive fishing, switching back to a senko put fish in the boat. I know that other people on bassresource like the Ika, but I'm really starting to think that they suck. Oh yeah, I tried them backwards & forwards. No difference in the bite. Maybe I'll cut one in half (length wise) and see if a "leech Ika" works any better. :-? RIDICULOUS! Fish the Fat Ika EXACTLY where you would fish a Senko and EXACTLY the same way. This bait is simply a different profile with different action. Sometimes the fish prefer the Fat Ika to the Senko, sometimes it's the other way around. http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1141053342 8-)
  15. That line rarely (never) sees the light of day, never has any pressure on it and is probably as fresh as the day it was first spooled. There is no reason the breaking strength should be compromised. 8-)
  16. There are four BIG days in my year: Christmas, 4th of July, my birthday and the Super Bowl, in reverse order. Pizza Crab Dip with tortillas, deviled eggs, Heavenly Stars, Pinwheels, wings, Italian Bruschetta and "Some Like It Hot" shrimp for appetizers. The main course is baby back ribs, cole slaw, beans, potato salad and garlic bread. Probably start with beer for pre-game...10:00 - 5:00, then maybe Dewar's at game time. Coppola wine at halftime with dinner. Later, a shot or two of brandy. For desert, Key Lime pie. 8-)
  17. I'm on it, but have no answer. Be assured, I am not defending a position, I want to know the truth. -Kent
  18. And that will do it... Goodnight Irene -Kent a.k.a. roadwarrior Global Moderator
  19. No, we'll keep you out of Tennessee water. There is some overlap where either state license works, but you don't need to be concerned. It's only an issue for Tennessee boys, like me! 8-)
  20. Yes and it will be better on the lake side, too. Even though you cannot feel current in the lake, it's there and makes a difference to the fish. Now, I'm talkin' smallmouth, those lazy green fish don't necessarily like current. 8-)
  21. Bill Dance fishes here in Memphis on the Mississippi with a partner, James "Big Catfish" Patterson. They have won a couple of events on the catfish tour. I run into him at the local BPS and he fishes the Tennessee River. I posted a cute story a few weeks ago about Bill Dance borrowing a throw net from my partner. From what I've seen, his real life personality is very much like his TV persona. I think he is a great guy and one of the top three bass fishermen of all time. If you want to protect your fishing money, don't buy anything that isn't highly recommended by someone you know or trust on this forum. As someone else noted a few days ago, "Our guys buy tackle because it works, not because someone paid them to use it." 8-)
  22. Arbor Knot: simple and reliable River fishing is a little different than on a lake. Get hung up and either break off or hurry back! I've almost been spooled trying to recover a lure and the knot can come into play. 8-)
  23. Fish bite when the water is steady or rising, but when it starts dropping you might as well go home. If the flow is simply reduced, but not shut off, the fish may resume feeding a hour or two after the water level has stabilized, but not always. 8-)
  24. Welcome aboard! I'm not in a metal band, my hair is short and it used to be brown! 8-)
  25. I have no explanation... If we ever get a break with the weather and water flow, I'll post a picture and note the water temperature on my next outing.
