Yes, but I haven't had much luck with jigs, regardless of the style, on the Tennessee River. A couple of years ago I caught a 6 1/2 lb smallmouth floating over a gravel bar, just off the channel drop, but most of the time I'm fishing more gnarly structure and can't seem to get two casts from a jig. If I'm fishing artificials, I'm throwing a GYCB Single Tail Grub on a Gammie 1/8 oz head. Since this is always moving, it lasts twice as long! Needless to say, I go through a lot of jig heads. :

Yeah, I edited my response. I'll add this comment, too: Your fish could easily go 5 lbs depending on how long it was. I have caught 5+lb fish that were long and skinny vs. short and fat. 8-)

I would guess 3-4 lbs. 8-)

Well, I'll take your word for it. My only issue with your jigs is that I lose them just like others. The life expectancy for a jig I'm fishing is very short! 8-)

Well, if they are keeping your bigger bass, that's a problem. However, if they are like the people at my public ponds, it's just small fish and bluegill that are being kept which probably benefits the bigger fish population. 8-)

My favorite technique is fishing jerkbaits, but my most productive has always been soft plastics until recently. For the past year or so, and this spring specifically, I have been focused on jigs. 8-)

Well, I'm not speaking for George, but I'm thinking the drought hasn't killed all the fish and they gotta eat! When conditions change, fish move which results in changing patterns perhaps, but certainly making adjustments. The "tough" part is finding the fish. Once you find 'em, the catching is usually the easy part. 8-)

My fishing partner and some buddies were setting up for striper fishing on the Tennessee River one Tuesday, several years ago. Out of nowhere two TWRA boats spead up to them and ordered them off the river and away from the dam. State Highway Patrol officers sealed the access to the dam and the entire area was swarming with cops of various jurisdictions. My friends are like, "wassup?" True story, 9/11/01. 8-)

Welcome aboard! When the water clears some, try casting a 5" Senko upstream and letting it settle down to the bottom and drift with the current. The key is locating some structure or cover, a current break for example, that might hold fish. Good luck! 8-)

George Welcome, Thank you for your observations and providing such specific suggestions. Knowing what to do as conditions change seems to be the difference between "Tough Fishing in Florida" and wacking 'em! You and your clients seem to be doing just fine. 8-)

Solution: Snap-set also called quick-set When you detect a strike, lower your rod tip while reeling down quickly. When you feel the fish, snap your wrists to raise the tip of your rod forcefully without moving the position of your hands relative to your body. 8-)

If you tied a 4 lb smallmouth to the tail of an 8 lb largemouth, the brown fish would drown the green fish and drag it around the lake like a boat pulling a boogie board! Largemouth are usually landed in a minute or two. Smallmouth are just half done the first time they see the boat. Brown fish never give up. 8-)

I have been fishing the 3/8 oz black on black every morning I'm out if there is a breeze. I know black is usually considered a nighttime color, but it has worked for me so well, I have not fished another color. 8-)
