  1. The link is to Oklahoma Joe's (there are two in K.C.). This is the rub: http://oklahomajoesbbq.com/oj/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=6 8-)
  2. ;D ;D ;D WOO-HOO! ;D ;D ;D 8-)
  3. My brother-in-law manages these two restaurants in Kansas City. You might want to give their rubs and sauce a try, too! When the owner was competing, he ruled! The Squeal Hog Rub is my favorite: http://www.oklahomajoesbbq.com/ 8-)
  4. Nice fish, Great pics! 8-)
  5. Well, please post an alert if you find out when the show is airing. You have some fans around here and we wouldn't want to miss it! 8-)
  6. When the bass seem to be focused on chasing minnows. Although I believe "color is overrated", we all know that there are times when an exact shade of a particular color is the ticket. When white is working, usually no other color will. 8-)
  7. Well, I don't want to be misleading. I have a lot of lures and every color, but at least 75% ( maybe 95%?) have never been used. I test all my hardbaits when I buy them to be sure they run true, but for the most part, that's the only time they have ever been wet! Let's just say, I'm a collector. : 8-)
  8. Man, I think you have hit the nail on the head! Color is way overrated. I like green or more generally, "dark", but white and chartreuse are sometimes key. Plus, you gotta have a little red to make your tacklebox pretty! 8-)
  9. Just a thought here. While you are at the tackle shop ask them and find out if they have a service tech. If they do, have them service your spinning reel don't leave the reel feeling rough. Then get yourself the bait caster..... Just my .02¢ from the bench. Good Luck & Tight Lines! David's advice is always on spot! I would just add that you will still need your spinning tackle to fish for awhile. The learning curve for a baitcaster can be challenging, you'll want to use the spinning rig most of the time while you are learning to use the new tackle. 8-)
  10. 500 year flood is unimaginable. #1, be safe. The damage can be repaired.
  11. Hey! Haven't we discussed this on another thread? Forget about numbers, fish for pigs! 8-)
  12. The water needs to warm up a bit, but you should give them a try NOW! My best bite on topwater has been on a full-sized Zara Spook, frog pattern. BTW, That's quite a fish in your avatar. What did she weigh? 8-)
  13. Dude! The Alabama State Record (10 lbs 8 oz) was caught below Wheeler Dam. The next World Record will probably be caught below Wilson Dam, IN ALABAMA! 8-)
  14. I have the Avid AC70MM saddled with a Shimano Chronarch. Sweet! 8-)
  15. The Lamiglas SR705R is what I use for big treble hook lures. It really shines with deep-diving crankbaits, but I also use this rod for LC Pointer 128, Sammy 128 and other big lures. Cabela's has them on sale right now: http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/common/search/search-results1.jsp?QueryText=sr705r&N=4887&Ntk=Products&Ntx=mode+matchall&Nty=1&Ntt=sr705r&noImage=0 8-)
  16. Hmm... Regardless of the cause: I would take the line back for exchange or send it back if you ordered online with a polite note describing what happen. This event is not typical. Regarding memory: I have stated that line memory in Yo-Zuri Hybrid Ultra Soft is comparable to braid when the line is "in use". Some coiling will be present from storing the line on the spool of your reel. After a cast or two, the line loses its memory. Regarding KVD Line & Lure Conditioner: This a product that lives up to all of its claims. With a single application, line becomes more manageable, friction is reduced (slick), backlashes are easier to unravel and line memory is virtually eliminated. The statement that KVD resulted in making line more brittle seems ridiculous to me based on my experience over the past several months. Regarding cost: Even at full-bore retail, $12 for 600 yards isn't particularly expensive. 1000 yards of original Hybrid is occasionally on sale at BPS and other retailers for $7.88. 1 lb spools of Ultra Soft #6 are currently on sale at Cabelas for just under $60. In summary, I suggest having the line replaced at no cost and trying another spool. If that doesn't work out, the loss is something less than life threatening. Fortunately, alternatives are numerous and readily available. Not everyone will like Yo-Zuri Hybrid or Hybrid Ultra Soft, but I do and continue to strongly recommend this line to all serious fishermen. It has never let me down and I have never been broken off by a fish using either of the Yo-Zuri lines. 8-)
  17. Welcome aboard! I think you will like the BSR852 better. The additional length and slightly lower power rating will add to your casting distance. Personally, I like a stiffer tip, but that's why they give you choices! p.s. I am not necessarily disagreeing with Redlinerobert, but I too prefer spinning tackle to fish soft plastics. My dedicated rod is a St. Croix Legend Elite, ES70MF matched to a Shimano Stella 2500FB and spooled with Yo-Zuri Ultra Soft #6. 8-)
  18. All right, my vote was #335, but right now we are way out. C'mon boys, it only takes a second to vote. 8-)
  19. WHAT! Okay, here is the #1 trick: If you are fishing single hooks, use a Medium Power/ Fast Action spinning rig with a drag you can depend on. When a smallmouth first sees your boat, she will bolt, everytime! You really need equipment you can count on. 8-)
  20. Here in Tennessee, loud Country Music is considered a "bass attractant". 8-)
  21. Well, I don't know about that... To consistantly catch bigger fish you have to fish for them all of the time. Generally that means: 1. Fish lakes, ponds and rivers that hold big fish. 2. Focus on structure in deeper water where "everybody" doesn't fish. 3. Use bigger baits/ lures. 4. Fish "traditional" baits slower and maybe introduce swimbaits to your game. 5. You can catch big bass on any lure, but jigs, soft plastics and swimbaits rule. 8-)
  22. I bought my SR705R when they were first introduced. Hmm... I wonder where Carrot Stix came up with the color for their rods? :
  23. I just want to emphasize what George mentioned. A razor sharp hook and a quick snap will bury the hook into the fish. Believe in your hook-set and NEVER double set. The chances of pulling the hook out on a second try far outweigh any perceived advantage. As you fight the fish, the hook will keep and embed itself even further into the fish. 8-)
