Here are four pages of what are other members favorite lures: http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1143177139 8-)
  2. Just bringing this back to page 1 for a new member. I have nothing more to say. :
  3. Take a look at some other recent posts, we have a thread running that just started yesterday. I am closing this thread. -Kent a.k.a. roadwarrior Global Moderator
  4. Congratulations! Nice fish. 8-)
  5. Hey buddy, When the water warms up a little, you need to fish Bull Shoals. In 2002 the water was nearly as high as it is now. The recruitment of that year's spawn was estimated to be 95% which is virtually impossible and unprecedented. ALL of the smallmouth from that year class should now weigh +/- 5lbs and all the bass I caught that year that have survived are now 6+ for sure! This could be the best year for smallmouth fishing in the lake's history. p.s. My guide is Tim "Hot Dawg" Curtis...870-445-4175. Give him a call. 8-)
  6. Welcome aboard! I have never fished the Buffalo, but on Bull Shoals the 3 1/2" Mizmo tube rules. The color is baby diaper yellow, but they call it Kent's Classic or squash green. 8-)
  7. Nope. Up 93 cents to close @ $127.55
  8. Shak-E2 Head rigged with a Fat Ika, skirt pointing up with a floating Rapala or Slug-Go attached to the line just above the Fat Ika so that it appears to be stalking or eating the bug?
  9. Wind can blow plankton into the bank. Baitfish follow and predators are right behind them. Sometimes this can turn into a great opportunity. 8-)
  10. To follow-up, When I fish a river, the key is boat control. Ideally, I want the boat and my bait/lure moving downriver at the same speed. The cast is across current and I am in effect, fishing "flat water", but even so, the lure is still moving downstream with the current. 8-)
  11. You are not rigging it correctly. George Welcome fishes the Swimming Senko with some success down your way. :
  12. It doesn't mean a thing to me as long as the package seems balanced. My heaviest rig is a St. Croix EC70MHF/ Shimano Calais 200; my lightest St. Croix AS66MLF/ Stella 1000. These rigs are complete opposites and used for different applications. I don't notice anything good or bad about the weight of either. 8-)
  13. Welcome aboard! 8-)
  14. On this board, these and probably several others: GMAN harshman earthworm77 (Micro Munch Tackle) 8-)
  15. Just plan to attend. Sign-up, lodging arrangements and other details will be posted later. We're still 11 months away! 8-)
  16. Fast or extra fast will both work fine. The BCR803 is probably perfect for buzzbaits and spinnerbaits. What don't you like about the rod?
  17. #1 You can't break it when you need to which means you generally lose all of your leader or 20 yards of braid if you tie direct. #2 It's dangerous and can cut you. Fishing on a river, this comes into play more often than you might think. #3 Wind always sucks, but even more so when fishing braid. #4 There is a tendency for the line to wrap around your rod tip which can be disasterous, but is generally just an inconvience. #5 If you tie direct, the braid cuts and frays on rocks. (A leader will reduce this problem.) #6 And although this is a little thing, the knot still bugs me! 8-)
  18. Been there, done that. I like Gary Yamamoto, but I hate braid. 8-)
  19. Commodity prices are all very volatile and oil is no different. When prices go up, the media scrambles for a reason, something or someone to blame. When prices fall, it's usually not big news. 8-)
  20. I fish a Medium Power/ Fast Action baitcasting rig. Buzzbaits have quite a bit of air resistance, so a lighter rod seems to load and cast best. I prefer baitcasting reels for all "fast retrieve" lures. Since a buzzbait is basically a swimming jig, I want a firm tip for a forceful hook-set. Single hook lures should be "driven in" the fish's mouth. 8-)
  21. WOW! That's what I'm talkin' 'bout! 8-)
  22. I have been having very good luck with the 3/8 oz Cavitron Buzzbait (black on black). The lure comes on plane immediately, creates a nice bubble trail and produces a unique "chirping" sound. Regarding the rod: A buzzbait is fundamentally a swimming jig. You need a rod with a firm tip for hook-sets, definitely NOT a parabolic rod. 8-)
  23. They are following the baitfish. In the spring the baitfish move upstream to spawn, then may return to deeper water or just other areas. Find the baitfish, find the smallmouth, it's that simple. 8-)
  24. I fish the Tennessee River almost every Saturday. Current is your friend, it is THE most important variable, period! Get away from the bank and fish structure, drifting your bait or lure with the current, always. Use enough weight to reach the bottom. That will be determined day-by-day, depending on water flow. p.s. You are going to hang-up occasionally. If you don't, you are fishing in the wrong place! 8-)
  25. Welcome aboard! We have many guys from New Jersey. I'm sure they will stop by and say hi! 8-)
