  1. May was my best bass month in years, for both size and numbers. The #1 lure was the jig with trailer. I had great luck with the 3/8 oz Evolution jig, GMAN's 1/2 oz and earthworm77 (Micro Munch Tackle) 1/2 oz jigs. Although I caught fish on a number of trailers, the Net Pac Baby Craw has really gotten my attention. I will still fish others, but the Baby Craw is all you really need. #2 3/8 oz Caviton Buzzbait (black on black) #3 (Yesterday) The Shak-E2 Head with a variety of soft plastics: Roboworm 6" Shakin' Zipper, GYCB Kut-Tail and Net Bait Paca Craw. #4 Either JJ's Magic or MegaStike have been used on every trailer. Although JJ's is effective, it is a pain to use. MegaStrike seems to be just as effective and much more user friendly. #5 I am all about KVD Line & Lure Conditioner. Get some! I caught one nice bass on a Smithwick Floating Rogue; never have had a strike on the VibraSpin which I have now fished more than ten hours; and have not fished a Senko, Fat Ika or any other soft plastic other than with the Shak-E2 Head yesterday. That is a BIG change for me. So, what's working for you? 8-)
  2. I'm surprised someone would even look at a reel for $6. Was this a friend of yours? 8-)
  3. Hmm... Except for a few guys that were sponsored by the company, I don't ever recall a single favorable post about the line. 8-)
  4. No, the water is too cold below the Bull Shoals Dam (53 degrees) to support a good population, but I do catch a few by accident. I have never caught a brown fish of note down there. My partner will be after a big number, he boated 57 in one day last year. I fish sculpin and am only looking for one bite. : 8-)
  5. I haven't changed much over the weekend: Spinning gear: Yo-Zuri Hybrid Ultra Soft #6 (.010" diameter, 11.9 lb test) Baitcasting tackle: Ultra Soft #12 (.013" diameter, 19.5 lb test) 8-)
  6. Nice fish, great pic! 8-)
  7. Most of the guys fish Smithwick Rogues (black & silver with an orange belly). I like LC Pointers (baby bass) and Rapala Husky Jerks (blue & silver with an orange belly). 8-)
  8. A double! Two new members. Welcome aboard! 8-)
  9. I'm fishing the White River this weekend for trout during the day and Bull Shoals for walleye in the evening. I highly recommend throwing jerkbaits in low light and at night. They school on steep, rocky points on the main lake with deep water immediately adjacent to the structure. When you find one, you have found a school, they are never alone! The bite is very aggressive, so be prepared. 8-)
  10. The Rat-L-Trap and similiar lipless crankbaits continue to be some of the greatest producers of all-time. 8-)
  11. Great post. Man, that's what it's all about. 8-)
  12. There is no "BEST", just favorite. Mine is Yo-Zuri Hybrid and Hybrid Ultra Soft. I am experimenting with Gamma Copolymer and like it, too! Although I used to fish P-Line, I think it has too much memory, especially in larger diameters and cold weather. 8-)
  13. ;D ;D ;D ;D CONGRATULATIONS! ;D ;D ;D ;D 8-)
  14. Welcome aboard! 8-)
  15. Dateline June 1, 2008, Germantown, TN I was gone all day Saturday striper fishing on the Tennessee River. So, Sunday is for my wife and honey-dos. However, she had a nail appointment at 12:30 , so I decided to sneak in an hour at the new "secret pond." I fished the Shak-E2 Head initally rigged with a Roboworm and coated with MegaStrike attractant. First cast, rig hung-up and lost. Five minutes later, fish on! Lost the bait, caught the bass. Third bait was the GYCB Kut-Tail. One cast, one fish, bait lost. Since I only had an hour, I thought three baits were enough...wrong! I happen to have a pack of Net Bait Paca Craws that I have only used for jig trailers and had no intention of fishing, but that's all I had left to fish with. Two casts later, the best bass of the day and time to leave. Totals: 3 fish, approximately 18 lbs, two very nice ones and a tournament bass. Estimated weights, 8, 6 & 4. This is my first time to fish the Shak-E2 Head, but it won't be the last! Thanks Bobby! 8-)

  17. 1. To fish soft plastics requires a rod with a firm tip. 2. Sharp hooks are mandatory. Save money on something else, but buy the best hooks. I fish Gamakatsu and XPoint, others highly recommend Owner, too. For most soft plastics, I fish a 4/0 EWG Offset Worm Hook. 3. The most consistant hook-set is a "snap-set". When you detect a bite lower your rod tip while reeling down quickly. When you have retrieved the slack, snap your wrists to forcefully raise the rod tip to 11 or 12 o'clock without moving the position of your hands relative to your body. Good luck! 8-)
  18. Congratulations! Nice fish, great pic. 8-)
  19. I would like to fish Lake St. Clair, Lake Erie and Champlain in the summer; the Cumberland and Tennessee Rivers in the winter. Since we're just wishing on a falling star, I would focus on brown fish, year-around! 8-)
  20. That sounds great. I know we're all looking forward to the show. 8-)

    Woo-hoo! You go girl! 8-)
  22. I have the STX saddled to a St. Croix Avid AC66MF. I consider this a excellent "all-around" baitcaster. I fish spinnerbaits, buzzbaits topwater, and jerkbaits on this rig. You could fish jigs and soft plastics, which I have, but the tip is too soft for my taste. What I really like is how the combination "works" jerkbaits and topwater, that is where the rod really shines. 8-)
