  1. Great post! Isn't it nice when things work the way they are supposed to? 8-)
  2. Welcome aboard! 8-)
  3. Hmm... I'm a soft plasics fan and for the past year or so, 1/2 oz jigs. My top producers are the Fat Ika, 6" Senko, 5 1/2" tubes and the GYCB Kreature. In low light, the 3/8 oz Cavitron buzzbait has been successful, too. 8-)
  4. For largemouth bass my standard is a Mizmo 5 1/2' Grandes or Micro Munch Tackle El Gordo, 4/0 EWG Gamakatsu Offset Worm Hook, T-rigged, weedless, 1/8 oz barrel or bullet weight, unpegged. For smallmouth, 3 1/2" Mizmo Small Jaws, 1/8 oz inserted jig head. 8-)
  5. Here are some ideas from another thread: http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1143177139 8-)
  6. Here is another lengthy discussion: http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1187794805/10 Be sure to read the post from George Welcome. He wrote a short, specific response to the question on this thread. 8-)
  7. Nice post, nice fish and great pics! 8-)
  8. Welcome aboard! 8-)
  9. No. The baits are heavy and very aerodynamic. You should have no problem fishing them weightless in the wind. 8-)
  10. Welcome aboard! 8-)

If you could really tell from pictures, I'd say the bass in hawg caller's avatar is about 45, maybe 50 pounds!

  13. Whoa dude! I am sorry things didn't work out, but there may have been "circumstances". David Green is our in-house Reel Mechanic and a HUGE contributor to BassResource.com. David periodically will have rods for sale that he has built and most of us consider "custom". However, being a perfectionist he considers "custom built" being made exactly for you with consideration for the reel you will match up with the rod. So, don't get angry, I'm sure it was not their intention to give you the impression that your business isn't wanted. Whether you do business with The Reel Mechanic is up to you, but he is held in high esteem around here. 8-)
  14. Well, go to their website... As far as the numbers go, the first two are "length in inches". 84=7' The third is the Power Rating, but unfortuantely is varies a little bit among the specific classifications. Generally, 1=Light or medium light; 2=Medium light or medium; 3=Medium or medium heavy; 4= Heavy and 5= Extra heavy. However, I have a MBR844C which is Heavy/Fast and a PR844S which is rated Medium Power/ Fast Action, but the Action is actually Moderate! So, it is confusing.

I'd go with 8.3! Nice bass, great pic. 8-)

  17. Welcome aboard! David Green (reelmechanic) is a BassResource.com sponsor. Take a look at his website and give him a call. I'm sure he can answer all your questions and maybe you will want him to build a rod! http://www.rod-crafting.com/index.html 8-)
  18. Me, too! However, you Texans are spoiled. With the exception of a couple of other states, most of us would have to start at a little less than 13 lbs. Actually, "genes" may help your bass population grow bigger over time, but I suspect that is not a huge factor for our largemouth. Bob Lusk was our guest speaker Wednesday night at Guntersville. He stated that for a bass to reach it's full potential, it requires a combination of optimal factors when they are young. If a bass starts out small due to a lack of nourishment, it can never catch up. I suspect any large or concentrated number of 10+ bass in this region are "farm raised". "Everything's BIG in Texas!" 8-)
  19. Well, I'm not sure who you're referring to, but all signatures are under review. There are exceptions for BassResource.com sponsors. If you have a specific example, please send me a PM. -Kent a.k.a. roadwarrior Global Moderator
  20. Nope. The Pointer might be my favorite lure. The "Live Pointer" is a totally different animal. 8-)
  21. I have never seen a bad review even among guys who generally prefer a brand other than Shimano. Some of the Shimano Posse may have some of the other high-end models (Calais, Core, CTE, etc.), but they still hold the 50MG up as the standard of excellence. If you prefer a full-sized reel, the Chronarch B or Metanium are other options that match the 50MG in terms of customer satisfaction. 8-)
  22. Welcome aboard! I'm not familiar with the reel so I have no suggestions. 8-)
  23. Read through "Fishing Articles" at the top of this page and the links provided. Our library is extensive. I think you'll find just about everything you are looking for it you spend some time with this collection. To earn "extra credit" you could then go back through the pages of the BassResource.com forums. Each section has a number of detailed discussions that I'm sure you will find interesting. 8-)
