  1. Rapala calls the X-Rap a "slash bait", but most people consider the lure a jerkbait. The X-Rap shines when the bass are very aggressive. Working the lure fast with short, erratic jerks is the way I fish them. With most jerkbaits, the pause is crucial, but fast action is what I have found to be the key when fishing the Rapala X-Rap. 8-)
  2. We have several members who use baitcasting gear exclusively, including light lures. With the right equipment, it can be done. However, there are no issues if you opt for spinning gear. For me, "the right tool for the task" is spinning tackle. 8-)
  3. Welcome aboard! 8-)
  4. The bite can be subtle when the bait is falling. If you are working it off the bottom, the bite is almost always the typical soft plastic, "tap-tap." Use a snap set to hook the fish, as you would with any other soft plastic. The bait is "Magical", the technique is not. 8-)
  5. I have never observed this, never heard of anyone doing this and know of no one who intends to release their catch to have ever held fish for an extended period of time. We sometimes hold fish for a short time in order to get a picture of a double, but "all day"? No, never. This whole problem involves tournament fisherman, not recreational C&R guys. We care about the health of our fish as much or more than we care about catching them. I don't appreciate tournament guys killing my fish.
  6. It's hard to tell from a picture. They can look much bigger or smaller than they really are. I would guess 3-4 lbs.
  7. I doesn't happen often and it is fixed.
  8. glenn caught a big male off a nest at Lake Fork last year that was around 5 1/2 lbs. Was yours guarding a nest? That's about the only way you can tell a male from a female without a very detailed examination. 8-)
  9. Some time ago we had a systems glitch which required The Reel Mechanic to re-register as "reelmechanic". David Green is still here, alive and well. He is also a BassResource.com sponsor. http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?action=viewprofile;username=584F4F46474F49424B4443492A0 8-)
  10. X2 x3 for sure. One question though. Is there a typo on the page? I thought Symetres were $79 and Shimano, like Loomis usually likes to keep retail prices the same. I could be wrong. I edited my post. The reel retails for $79.99 at BPS: http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_52966_100001002_100000000_100001000_100-1-2
  11. bigbill, You busted yourself on another thread. Fishing $17 lures on $20 rods? Junior Member Offline Being retired i get to go fishing everyday!!!! Posts: 137 Ct. Gender: Re: Life Like Lure Collection Reply #18 - Today at 09:35:34* I just received my special order baits from the dalureguy and they look AWESOME!!!! He made me a sunfish that sits sideways on the topwater like a wounded sunfish. He made me a larger sunfish crankbait and both are like 3" long too. I finally got to got fishing a little to test my setup with the new line to be sure its ok. I threw the orginal sunfish lure from Dalureguy and it runs prefect. I start out fishing in the dark so i need to have my setups perfect and test them out before i go out. Now that the bass are on the beds I like to test my setups and lures and presentations without being interupted. These crankbaits are the best i have ever tried and they look great too. I have to stock up on these.....I never see these kind of lures at the larger fishing stores too no one has lures like these for sure. I'm all pumped up to get out and fish with these.
  12. Very nice! 8-)
  13. Here you go, Shimano Symetre 2500FI for $79: http://www.deloscustomtackleshack.com/reels/shimanosymetrefi.html NOTE: This is either a typo at Delo's or look to another retailer (BPS) for the reel a $79. 8-)

  15. "Delivering" water at an "economically viable" price is the issue. The world is mostly water! We will never run out. 8-)
  16. Nope. Rat-L-Traps and spinnerbaits continue to be big producers, year after year. Every fish over a week old has seen these lures (and others), yet they still seem to fool the bass, both big and small. Some lures seem to lose a little magic over time (original Rapala), but are still a part of the "must have" list we all seem to use occasionally. 8-)
  17. Welcome aboard! The only difference in fishing from shore (pond fishing) is that you generally cannot retrieve lures that get hung-up. So, if that is important to you, treble hook crankbaits are not a good option. 8-)
  18. I fish Gamakatsu 4/0 EWG Offset Worm Hooks for most soft plastics. The exceptions are 3/0 for 3 1/2" tubes and 5/0 Offset Round Bend for 7" Senkos and Swimming Senkos. 8-)
  19. The most popular G.Loomis spinning rod is the SJR783S. I suggest this one in the IMX series. http://products.gloomis.com/gl/search/search_results.jsp?JSESSIONID=LNnzG2jRbLGVLCcy20qnzBLYnPxQck0Btg37RC5BSNv4T9JvLnzs!-1669085458&SEARCH_INPUT%3C%3EobjectTypes=PRODUCT&SEARCH_INPUT%3C%3EsearchFor=sjr783s&SEARCH_INPUT%3C%3Emaxrows_cd=10&SEARCH_INPUT%3C%3Epath=%2FAssortments%2FFishing%2FGLoomis%2FGLoomisPrimary&SEARCH_INPUT%3C%3EcurrencyCode=USD&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=1408474395181201&bmForm=go&bmFormID=1208872691266&bmUID=1208872691266&bmHash=ae1ccc130f7c5853241ac3e58b21bc6f272675b1 8-)
