  1. Yeah, the thing I like most about rubber nets is that they are so user friendly. You don't have to even take the fish out of the water to remove hooks and release it. If you are taking a picture the fish can be held in the water while you or your partner are getting things set up. Rubber nets are THE BOMB!
  2. There is NOTHING wrong with "selective harvest." In most ponds (small water), removing little fish is generally good for the management of the fishery. I think we all get worked up about people keeping "our" big fish! I know it strikes a nerve in me when I see anyone with a 5 lb smallmouth on their stringer, but I'm the guy who will keep all legal sauger and crappie, an occasional striper and catfish. I like eating fish, I just don't want anyone eating MY pets!
  3. My wife has zero interest in fishing or my fishing gear. I doubt if she knows the difference in a rod verses a reel! So, I keep my stuff in a little room off the garage and NEVER flaunt anything that I buy. My policy is "No see, no tell."
  4. There's no excuse. I think tournament fishermen, especially those in the top circuits.
  5. When you think $30 is a lot to spend for three Mattlures Baby Bass, but you just ordered five bags of BassTrix because you found a deal for "only" $12 each plus shipping!
  6. Man! Great post and pics, those are some hawgs! 8-)
  7. For lighter lures (Bomber Square A, Norman Fat Boy and Mann's 1-Minus) I recently picked up a St. Croix Avid AC70MM and matched it up with a Shimano Metanium. It's a great combination for lighter applications. Another rod I consider more of an "all-around" treble hook rig is an Avid AC66MF which has a soft tip. This is the rod I use for jerkbaits, buzzbaits, spinnerbaits, topwater and lipless cranks. It's saddled with a Shimano Calais 200 (6.2:1).
  8. I don't own them, but would like someone to post a story about the fish they have caught on this bait. Perhaps there are some situations where The Snake has been very productive. Anyone?
  9. Great post, exceptional day of fishing! 8-)
  10. Nice fish, great pic! 8-)
  11. If you want to be in a fishing related business, start out with one of the major players, retail or wholesale. After a couple of years you will have a much better feel for where you want to be and what you want to be doing. I can assure you though, a free standing, independent fishing shop is NOT the ticket. I do know a couple of people that have a reasonably profitable baitshop operation. However. the "baitshop" is just a sideline, the money is driven by the "real business": quick stop, gas station, snacks, light restaurant and owned by a very well known and established guide/ guide service. On the main highway, a mile or two from the dam (lake and river), next to several cafes, marine shop and motels. Still, with the perfect location and all this going, the "baitshop" is just a component of the total mix. Good luck!
  12. EXACTLY my point. No, these are not my favorite rods, but they're close. I like them a lot and at this price they are a GREAT BUY.
  13. The Lamiglas SR705R is THE BOMB. It was designed by Skeet Reese (2007 Angler of the Year). http://www.lamiglas.com/prod_indiv.php?id=38 I have mine matched up with a Shimano CTE200GT (5.0:1).
  14. Your fish is too big! : Welcome aboard! 8-)
  15. The Rapala X-Rap is a type of jerkbait. Rapala likes to call it a "slash-bait." Nothing is written in stone, but these are some general guidelines: 1. Clear or slightly stained water. 2. Low light. 3. A slight surface ripple helps, but is not mandatory. 4. The lure can be worked fast or slow, but not with a steady retrieve. 5. A standard retrieve might be a jerk-jerk-jerk-pause-jerk-jerk-pause... 6. Make the pause complete, on slack line. 7. Fish on or near structure as you would another jerkbait or topwater lure. Your equipment is fine.
  16. Well, I'm with you, but there ARE some guys than can do everything with a baitcaster!
  17. Nice fish. It looks a lot bigger than 6 lbs. Congrats! Nice pics, too. 8-) BTW, You're suppose to use a weight... :
  18. I have a couple of ponds to show you and then you can come back and fish them whenever you like on your own.
  19. San Diego County fires are "basically zero percent contained." http://www.foxnews.com/
  20. I have fished a couple of ponds there and have never had a bite or seen a fish of any kind.
  21. Nice fish, great pic! 8-)
  22. Welcome aboard! 8-)
  23. Oops! http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,304037,00.html
  24. 11 years for a couple of reels on sale for $79. (Discounted 2000 series Stradic when the 2500 was introduced). That seems like a pretty good run, and they are still running!
