  1. Welcome aboard! (Cephkiller: That's not harsh at all, just helpful!)
  2. From Terminator II, "Are we learning anything yet?" The Loomis didn't fall out of your canoe avid, it jumped out! G.Loomis rods are allergic to Daiwa reels. :
  3. I have felt the same way for a long time. After reading too many posts from guys doing well with spinnerbaits in a variety of situations, I decided to give them a go again. This winter I replaced most of the skirts on 8-9 year old, brand new Terminators. : I am VERY surprised at how effective these lures have been. p.s. Glenn and his wife, Kerri, both caught PBs on HEAVILY pressured water at Lake Fork. That should tell you something.

Excellent! Man, that's a great picture, too.
  5. One bass over 5 lbs is how I measure a good day, but I maintain the "Fish_Chris" attitude: "Regardless of how it goes, I am never more than one bite away from a GREAT day!" 8-)

  11. On a lighter note: Boat management can be a big issue on a fast moving river. It's no big deal to my fishing partner who has been fishing the Tennessee River for more than thirty years, but it can be to new people. Last fall we were drifting a stretch of the river approaching a severe bend. Another boat was a quarter mile or more ahead of us, both boats floating down river. Out of the blue, New Guy with three kids and his wife come motoring up INSIDE the lead boat. Now, we're kinda smiling because New Guy is doing EVERYTHING wrong: trolling upstream, small crankbaits ocassionally surfacing, too shallow (dangerously so over a submerged ridge), etc. As the boat approached, me and my buddy reeled in to get out of the way and just watch this fella. New Guy was nearly frantic, kid's lines were tangled and he's hung-up. Boat is going too fast, the river is pushing him out and he is BETWEEN us and twenty feet of water to the shore. Talk about a cluster.... Well, New Guy didn't seem to notice us, didn't ask for advice or help and continued on. I guess we could have gotten mad, but really...it was just too funny.
  12. Which Pope? Congratulations! Thats a beauty and a great pic, too.
  13. Excellent post! I would just add, maybe check it even a little more often than that... 8-)
  14. There are lots of lines out there that work just fine. I have tried most of them and I plan to keep experimenting with others. Right now I'm a BIG fan of #6 Yo-Zuri Hybrid Ultra Soft. Give it a try, the cost of the trial is not high. I'm on my second year of fishing this line and it is the best I have ever used on spinning gear. The most important attribute for me is that it has virtually no memory in use. The line lasts forever, is HIGHLY abrasion resistant , extremely strong and stealthy. What do you have to lose?
  15. Better equipment will not make a bad fisherman a great fisherman, but higher quality equipment with greater precision will make a good fisherman a much better one. .
  16. This is the #1 topic on this Forum and most other bass forums. Start here: http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1121527643
  17. I enjoy a monogamous relationship. : You sir, are a tackle ho. 8-)
  18. Nice catch! I guess when you say "lack of fishing waters around Nashville" you mean easily accessable ponds. For those unfamiliar with the region, if we were addressing lakes and rivers, that would be a different story. The Nashville region offers some of the best multi-species fishing in the country.
  19. or... Take the easy way out and use the RIGHT TOOL FOR THE JOB! I'll bet I like fishing baitcasters as well as anyone who uses them exclusively. Seriously...but I really enjoy spinning tackle, too. My "preference" is all about the specific technique involved. Spinning tackle is a better choice sometimes.
  20. I'm not convinced that line visibility is important with reaction lures, but I am CONVINCED that lighter, less visible line impacts the number of bites I get fishing finesse lures and surprisingly, live bait. However, it's not just visibility, lure action is effected and perhaps thicker line is more easily "felt" by the fish. This is not unique to bass fishing, either. Walley and big German brown trout can be line shy, too. Spinning tackle: Yo-Zuri Hybrid Ultra Soft #6 (11.9 lb test) Baitcasting gear: Yo-Zuri Hybrid Ultra Soft #12 (19.5 lb test)
  21. My PB was fooled by a Norman Fat Boy, bluegill pattern. The Bomber Square A is a fish magnet. I bought the Lucky Craft Rick Clunn 2.5 & 3.5 but haven't actually fished them yet. Tak won the Classic a couple of years ago fishing the Bagley BII.
  22. No, I don't think so. Twisting just causes the line to coil making it difficult to manage. You can "troll" your line in the grass. Let all your line out as you are walking. Walk a hundred yards or so, then reel in about half your line and walk some more. Finish up by reeling up and walking the last twenty yards for awhile. (No weight, no lure, just free line).
  23. Great pic, too!
  24. Keith's comment is important. Yo-Zuri Hybrid and Hybrid Ultra Soft is a bonded fluorocarbon/ nylon copolymer. I suspect the fluorocarbon crystals crack when a kink is created in the line. However, you don't need to worry about a weak spot sneaking up on you, it is VERY noticable. You will have to cut the line at that point.
