  1. We fished with the Big Boys Saturday from near the dam then down river below 7 Mile Island. We threw everything including the kitchen sink! We watched a couple of pros catching smallmouth just outside McFarlan Harbor. The water was high and swift which made boat management challenging. It was fun watching all the activity at the tent city with hundreds in attendance. Those guys did a little better than us. If we had caught a 5 lb bass we would have had 5 pounds to weigh in, but that didn't happen. A few "other species", but no keepers on our boat.
  2. Do you name your "pet" gators? I have only seen one in the wild. That was fishing at Lake Fork. The animal had no interest in us.
  3. I work 'em like I stole 'em! Bought all my stuff to fish not to collect dust. I "baby" my gear when traveling, rod sleeves and reel covers. I keep them organized on the boat and store them carefully, but I fish them hard.

  5. Soft plastic fished weightless require certain conditions. Sometimes (often) "moving lures" are a better choice, especially right now! These baits require relatively shallow water, <12". They don't work well in current, either.

  7. I would estimate 3-5 minutes. Shorter time when targeting specific cover like a tree, brush pile, stump or rock. Longer if fishing down a bank or ridge. I'm surprised guys fish anything but a Senko or Fat Ika around docks. Back on topic... I have been using MegaStrike on ALL soft plastic for more than twenty years. I think it helps keep the fish on the bite. In my "fish mind" a Twinkie lathered up with the goo just sounds delicious!
  8. No. The magic is in the action fished weightless.
  9. #10 Smackdown is the best I have ever fished.
  10. I think you will like the Alpha and might find a great deal used.
  11. I like the Fat Ika, too.

  13. Yep, you start throwing that junk and the fish will wear you out before you are ready to go home.
  14. Fat Ika rigged on #4 Yo-Zuri Hybrid. The same line for the smalljaws in my avatar, too.
  15. I will post weights on Sunday and we'll see how they compare. We will be fishing down river from McFarland Harbor and several miles from the dam. I am taking some friends so being safe is my priority.
