  1. Another suggestion: humps surrounded by deep water. Several years ago a friend of mine took me to a spot in what seemed to be the middle of Green Bay on Lake Michigan. My buddy had a Stratos bass boat, not the kind of boat you want to be in too far offshore. This particular day the wind was calm and my friend got very excited. He had the area identified on his map and had the GPS coordinates, so off we went: seventeen miles out! The spot we fished was approximately 100 X 200 yards and the water was nine feet deep. The surrounding water ranged from sixty feet to a couple of hundred. This was the first time I had ever done this (and it won't happen again in a small boat). Anyhow, we fished this spot which appeared to be in the middle of the ocean for two hours, catching smallmouth bass on virtually every cast. We didn't catch any monsters, but man did we catch some fish! This isolated island is rarely fished because the winds are rarely calm and the lake is usually rough. When the wind picked up, we made a beeline for the shore, but it was almost too late. That was a harrowing trip that I don't ever want to repeat. Hopefully you can find similar structure in your river or lake that is not quite as dangerous to fish.
  2. No Doctor...You're not the Bait Monkey... Sure, I believe you. Sure...sure I do...sure...I really do....Sure, I really do...sure... At one time, when my son fished with me, I bought two of everything. At one time, I owned all of the Lucky Craft Pointers that BPS carried. Now I'm about $1100 behind on my collection...I guess I need to pay a little more attention to what they have that is new. All work and no play makes jack a dull boy. All work and no play makes jack a dull boy. . . . . All work and no play makes jack a dull boy. All work and no play makes jack a dull boy........................................................ . . . All work...........................................................................................................

    Nope...
  4. Hmm... I am not a total stick in the mud, I fish Micro Munch Tackle El Gordo and Mizmo tubes. Otherwise...GYCB.
  5. Okay, Raul is not The Bait Monkey and my dad was not Santa Claus. I believe.

Wow! Next thing you know, you will be a member of the Posse! I can't wait to see you at Fork with all your Yankee stuff!
  7. Yep! You guys are crazy. Good luck, I wouldn't do it on a bet.
  8. I fished 7" Senkos for awhile, but all but two of my 10+ have been caught on 6" Senkos. That would be my suggestion.
  9. I'm on board with Bud.
  10. Big Bass, Welcome aboard! CSB, With the depths you have described, I would work weightless soft plastics. Specifically, a Senko and/or Fat Ika.
  11. Slam dunk! Nice follow-up cart7.
  12. Your response to the question was so concise, you deserved a salute...Mister.
  13. Excellent! Thank you.
  14. Excellent! Thank you for taking the time to make this detailed post. Tubes are a passion of mine, too. For smallmouth, I too fish an inserted jighead in relatively open water targeting structure, not cover. I prefer the 3 1/2" Mizmo in Kent's Classic (squash green). With this tube my technique is almost always a hopping presentation. For largemouth, I fish the Micro Munch Tackle El Gordo (black neon) or Mizmo 5 1/2" tube (green or watermelon). My set up and presentation is completely different for these fish, but I'll share that on the next thread when bassnleo discusses his approach to largemouth bass.

Hey Dan, I'm a cat guy. I have ALWAYS been impressed with your rods and reels, but your cat is something very SPECIAL!
  16. Hey guys, CHILL! I would like this to be an ONGOING project. It doesn't mean TODAY. Take some time and make it special. There are lots of members that have some VERY special talents. I hope that over the next few months you will share them with all of our members. Show off a little bit, even if that's not your nature. We (me) would REALLY like to hear about some special secrets that would make the rest of us better fishermen. In addition to your post, maybe some other members that have a certain twist on your technique will add a little spice to the discussion. I still want to know how YOU fish a Senko!
  17. I keep a three piece set of Kick-Tail in my tacklebox to remind me to NEVER buy a trick lure again.
  18. Fishing soft plastics.
  19. Excellent! Thank you Catt.
  20. German brown trout LOVE jerkbaits, especially in rainbow trout colors! (LC Pointer, Aurora Black and Rapala X-Rap Rainbow Trout). One of the reasons big brown trout are so rarely caught is because they (generally) feed at night. Last summer I had a TREMENDOUS evening on the White River in north central Arkansas fishing with an X-Rap. Seven strikes and four trout over 5 lbs in two hours. Woo-hoo!
  21. Yeah, I found it and deleted my question while you were typing in this message. Thanks. Nice post!
  22. Soft plastics is the next step, but I think they are difficult to fish productively when someone is just starting to fish. Maybe not. What do you think?
  23. Excellent! Thank you GMAN.
  24. the_muddy_man, I have a suggestion for you. Why don't you put a piece together on why everyone should be using Shimano reels? :-*
