  1. Keep an eye on the BassResource.com Flea Market. Shimano Curado baitcasters pop up all of the time, I think there are two offered now @ $150 shipped. You will not be disappointed in this reel. http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1165763271

I cast my vote to shotguns for home defense, too. This is a much safer option if you cannot, or are not intersted in, devoting some time to weapons training. No matter what one choses, some initial training and occasional usage is required.

    fishfighter, Welcome aboard!

My son has a Kimber Pro Carry II. I think that is a great option for CC. http://www.kimberamerica.com/pistols/compactprocarry/
  6. I have an Avid AS66MLF. Although it is a very nice light rod, I think you will find that the tip is too soft for fishing soft plastics. The rod is better suited for light, hard lures and live bait.
  7. Bass109, The New Jersey State Record is 10 lb 14 oz, Menantico Sand Pond, 1980. Any State Record should be considered a "Trophy Fish."
  8. Welcome aboard! I hope you find a partner on the Forum. Good luck with your season.
  9. Man, those are some fine fish in December. Congratulations!

Well boys, lend the man your hand if you can. Just don't over do it, we expect to see your smiling face in Texas in three months.
  11. You'll be fine with VMC. These are the standard hooks for Lucky Craft and Rapala X-Raps.
  12. You will love the reel regardless of the model. So here are a couple of things to consider: I have the original CL200 6.2:1 with a deep spool which is probalbly the same reel as today's CL200ASV. If you plan to use heavy line (thick diameter) you will need this model. However, if I were buying new I would buy either the CL200A (6.2:1) or the CL100A (5.8:1). The CL200A retrieves 26 IPC and has plenty of line capacity for bass fishing. I would prefer changing the entire spool a couple of times a year rather than tying on line to filler. (My reel always has 50% too much line which NEVER gets used.) The CL100A retrievers 24 IPC, is smaller and lighter than the 200. Line capacity is not an issue for bass fishing and you may find this to be a better choice, depending on the rod you will be using. This is the next baitcaster I plan to own.
  13. If you pour hot liquids into a thermos, the thermos keeps them hot. If you pour cold liquids into a thermos, the thermos keeps them cold. How do it know?
  14. Wow! That does NOT suck! Great fish, great pics, great day. Congratulations!
  15. I have often heard orange roughy referred to as "poor man's lobster." I don't know anything about the commercial use of suckers, so I'll just take your word for it. My only point here was to say that the introduction of non-native species is not always a good thing and I can understand why there would be a great deal of resistance to maintaining foreign fish in another ecosystem.
  16. Welcome aboard!
  17. For all soft plastics, Yo-Zuri Hybrid Ultra Soft #6 on spinning tackle.

This is a fine gun, especially for concealed carry: http://www.sigarms.com/Products/ShowCatalogProductDetails.aspx?categoryid=37&productid=150 If it's a .40 you want, there is no better gun than this one: http://www.sigarms.com/Products/ShowCatalogProductDetails.aspx?categoryid=8&productid=118 Her's another article you might find interesting: http://www.sightm1911.com/lib/ccw/selection.htm
  19. Fish does it again...another Cali story...Let's hear it guys, who will top that? Man, until recently I had no idea sturgen got that big. I didn't know they were jumpers either...I guess I didn't know anything about them, hun? That is sooooooooo cool!
  20. flechero, You're right. Maybe I can get Bud to take me crappie fishing at Kentucky Lake next spring, I'm sure that would give me a much better perspective on what crappie fishing is all about. The few times I have fished for them, they were not particularly exciting. I'm not saying that a mess of "slabs" isn't a good day, but the fight is weak, even on ultra light tackle. The comparison might be to speckled trout: B-O-R-I-N-G, but good to eat!
  21. Well, I can see the otherside of the coin. There are no limits on carp or suckers anywhere in the US, and I would like to kill them all. In Europe and maybe Japan, these fish are prized. They have adapted here so well, we will never get rid of them.
  22. Nice fish, great pic!
  23. Go to BassPro. Actually, if I have had some experience with the brand or if a certain rod is specifically recommended to me by someone I feel I can trust, I'll order it sight unseen. For example, I have a Lamiglas SR705R which is technique specific. I bought it based on a couple of recommendations and after visiting the website for the skinny. I have been very pleased.
