President or Sedona?
************** Moderator Note ************* It's Christmas, let's play nice. A couple of posts have been edited and two were deleted ONLY because they addressed the edited portion of other posts. So, c'mon guys...This is just for fun, let's be civil. We all have "favorite" brands. Be positive in your post, it serves no purpose to blast another guy's choice in equipment. -Kent a.k.a. roadwarrior Global Moderator

top finesse spinning rod & reel?
My soft plastics rod is a St.Croix Legend Elite ES70MF. I think another option you should look at is the G.Loomis SJR843, IMX or GLX series. Although I prefer small diameter line fishing soft plastics, I like having something that significantly overtests. Give Yo-Zuri Hybrid Ultra Soft #6 a try. The diameter is .010" but the strength is over 11 lb test and it has very little memory. My combination was originally saddled with a Shimano Stradic 2500FH, I'm now using a Stella 2500FB. I like it quite a bit.

President or Sedona?
What did Bud say? I'm sure you will like those other reels and pay special attention to do dodgeguy, he's Mr. Pflueger. However, I am surprised that you like your Symetre so well and aren't considering the Shimano Stradic. That reel is the "best value" in the Shimano line-up.

A lil advice.
Welcome aboard! I do about 95% of my fishing with three rods. If I carry more for specialty applications, they are stored most of the time.

Visit from Alpster Today
Wow! That was very nice. I hope you don't ruin the package and put the "wrong" reel on your new rod! Merry Christmas!

baitcasting reels ?
Just playing, I would never diss the Navy or any other branch of the service for that matter. Regarding reels, there are a number of good reels at almost ever pricing point. We all have our favorites, so that's probably going to be the recommendation that we make.

Your # 1 rod choice
Lightnirod, Man, that was a GREAT post!

Why the Pros don't use nets
Lipping is for show. Get a rubber net and land more fish. The real upside is how much less a fish has to be handled when using a rubber net. My fish rarely leave the water unless they are big enough to weigh and picture. Using a rubber net really protects your catch. With regard to tournament guys catching big bass, especially B.A.S.S. pros, common'...they rarely catch anything over five or six pounds during competition. I think there have only been a couple of fish over 10 lbs, EVER! KVD caught an 11 something (his PB) which surprised everyone.

Your # 1 rod choice
G.Loomis GLX MBR844C would be my first choice. The same model in the IMX series would be #2. This is a 7' Heavy Power/ Fast Action rod. I fished the IMX for five years and thought it was the finest baitcasting rod on the planet. The handle came loose and I replaced it through the Xpeditor service, swapped the new replacement rod with BPS and paid the difference. You will be COMPLETELY satisfied with either series, I just wanted the GLX. Note: Although I consider the MBR844C my #1 baitcasting rod, I fish soft plastics exclusively on a Medium Power/ Fast Action spinning rod. Specifically, St. Croix Legend Elite ES70MF matched with a Shimano Stella 2500FB and #6 Yo-Zuri Hybrid Ultra Soft.

Well, than you know what I mean. The MLF is a fine rod, it's just better for certain applications. Merry Christmas to you, too!
