Welcome aboard! If you decide to get more involved you need to consider replacing the spincaster with a spinning rod & reel. Spincasters for the most part are for people who don't fish. To ramp up the learning curve spend some time reading the "Articles" and watching the "Videos" at the the top of the page. We use them as live bait for striper fishing . They are tons of fun to catch using a sibiki rig. The issue for bait is catching the smaller 4" - 6" variety. If you want to target the bigger fish there is nothing better than a LC Pointer in MS American Shad.

Well, neither of us fit the demographic. We are too old and the wrong gender, but this particular tune I think is "catchy". Neither my wife or daughter are fans either, so when they said I was in for a surprise they were right!

Let's see... Lately it has been tournament success, BR member recommendations and infomercials. So here are some "new to me" which I have not fished or barely fished: 6th Sense Crush Flat 75X, Rapala DT6 (Demon), Scatter Rap and Shadow Rap. Yet to acquire: Mann's Reel 'N Shad, ZMan Pop Shadz, Siebert Outdoors Fogy, Savage Hollow Frog Action Legs and Duo Realis Spinbait (spybait).

Did you check your state's regs? In Tennessee I am told it is illegal to mount a Lews on a G. Loomis. Just kidding of course. Congratulations on your new rig!

In your price range all the reponses are going to be "favorites", there is no "best". The BR Staff has been very impressed with Pinnacle rods and reels, but we all have other favorites, too. I have several Pinnacle reels and an Okuma, the rest are Shimano.
