On reading a lot of guys raving about the 50 size reels, over the last couple years. I purchased three.

Two Curado 50E'S, and a Chronarch 50e. After having used them enough to form an opinion, I have decided

that I prefer a full size reel. I love my Chronarch 200e's, My core 100mg's. It seems to me that the new Curado i's

fall somewhere in between in size, but I still prefer them to any of the 50's that I have used. Does anyone else

prefer full size over the small size. I am talking about for everyday use, not specifically finesse. The reason I ask

is because I know some of you guys use the 50's for everything.

I'm right there with you. I have a 50E that is a nice little reel, but it seems almost hard to palm. Maybe my hands are too big for it, I don't know. I still fish with a couple old Curado B's that are huge compared to a lot of reels today but I don't notice it I guess. 

I'm sure the size of your hand has a lot to do with how they feel.

I hear ya. I wouldn't get rid of my 50's either. You just never know. Preferences can and have changed before.

I prefer the smaller size for two reasons. I have small hands and the lower line capacity. I typically run small diameter 13 pound test, and see no need to spool up 200 yards of it. The 200 size casts and handles bigger baits better, but it's very rare I throw anything over half ounce. The 200 is to wide for me. I own 2 50s,everything else is Daiwa so I guess it doesn't really matter!!

Never owned a 50.

Always thought about getting one but just couldn't justify it for what I do.

I always felt that a 200 can do whatever I will need it to do, but maybe a 50 couldn't do it as well...So I didn't.

I prefer smaller reels. I have huge hands and the core 50/51 is still the best palming reel ive ever used.

It is truly a beautiful thing that we can all find our comfort zone in this day & age, as there is no shortage of quality options.  There really is something for everyone, and there is no wrong answer if the reel fits your hand, wallet and situation.  It's a great time to be fishing!  Cheers to our first world problems!

This. The 50 is perfect for my hands, but I can 

totally get why it wouldn't be for folks with larger

hands.

 

In fact, the only reel I have in circulation that is 

"full size" is the Lexa, which is fine by me, though

not as perfect as the 50e.

 

My older Accurists are big and clunky by comparison.

I'm another one that loves the feel of the 50/51's in my hand. Since most of my fishing is ponds and out of my kayak focussed on shallow cover I don't have a huge need for a large line capacity. Having gotten used to the 50/51's, when I got the Chronarch Ci4 it felt a little larger than I would have liked. Once on the right rod it was fine, but definitely not what my brain was used to with the 50/51's.

Better love that core because shimano has discontinued them.

I use both larger and smaller profile reels and decide on which one based on the size and type of bait I'm throwing, 'rght tool' mentality.  I have, however, eliminated round baitcasters from my bass fishing 

Where a lighter 50 sized spool shines for me is the ability to throw those lighter baits distances that would be hard or impossible to do with a bigger capacity reel.

I have one Calcutta 50 with a 5.0:1 gear ratio that I use for slow rolling spinner baits.

I absolutely love the way my 51e fits my hand. I picked up my 201e and it feels enormous in comparison. If I can't get a 50 sized BC, I'll go spinning.

For now anyways.

I don't consider the 50 size as finesse, just a smaller version that can do almost everything the 200 can.

I try and not be beholdant to any one size reel. Would I want to throw a 3/8 spinner bait on a 1000 size spinning reel or a 1/8 dropshot on a 200 casting reel? No, but I could do it. I try and match the weight and resistance of the lure to the rod and reel setup I use. Within these parameters there is overlap rather than specificity.
