I tie a variety of knots. My philosophy is "If it ain't perfect, it's not good enough". My preferences are the Arbor Knot for attaching line to spool; Alberto for mainine to leader; Polomar for single hooks; 16-20 (Duncan or Pitzen) for treble hook lures and San Diego Jam for braid, but I rarely tie direct.

Innovation is not China's strong suit. I don't think they have actually invented anything since gunpowder in the 9th Century. For the most part anything that approaches a quality product involves foreign supervision. Chinese labor is cheap, but quality control in lacking. I suspect the reel in question is a knock-off of someones else's design or some combination stolen from other companies. Maybe you have "nothing to lose" flushing $40 down the toilet, but the money would fund a fair portion of a proven product.

I would be VERY leery of a $40 Chinese reel. We have a couple of members that jumped on the bandwagon last year, but they never followed-up with a review. Buyer beware.

No, moderate action is for treble hooks, not single hooks and especially not for jigs. MF or MXF is what I would recommend.
