my minimalist light tackle box.
I'll list my lure preferences, but pick your own favorites. What's important is covering all depths; presentations; and speed of retrieve. For your "minimilist" bag, pick one from each category: Topwater: Sammy, Spook, Megabass PopMax, MegaStrike Cavitron, Rage Tail Shad and River2Sea Frog Shallow: Norman Fat Boy, Lucky Craft RC 1.5, 2.5 and 3.5; Bagley BII, MegaStrike StrikeBack spinnerbait, Bandit 100, 200 & 300and Wiggle Wart Medium: XCalibur Xr50, Pointer, X-Rap Deeper: DT10 & DT16, Fat Free Shad Bottom: DD22, Swarming Hornet/ LFT Live Magic Shad Soft Plastics & Jigs: Rage Tail Baby Craw, Rage Hawg, Thumper & Anaconda; Fat Ika, Senko, Kreature, Single-Tail Hula Grub & Kut-tail; Mega Strike MegaBug; Gitzit; NorthStar Pro Series Jig, GMAN Mop Head and MegaStrike EVO II. Trailers: Baby Craw, Craw & Lobster; GYCB Flappin' Hog: RI Double Wide Sweet Beaver; Net Bait Craws and Baby; Uncle Josh Pork 8-)

Why braid?
Braid will significantly improve your jig fishing. I am experimenting with the new Fireline Fusion recommended by dodgeguy. So far, me likes! 8-)

Question concerning Jigs
Great value, high quality jig: Pro Series: http://www.northstarbaits.com/Projigs.html I think everyone should try Bobby's EVO II: http://www.megastrikefishingproducts.com/shop/Purple-and-Blue-2-Per-Pack.html I also fish a custom 3/4 oz GMAN Mop Jig with TroKar hooks. I think design, high quality hooks and outstanding craftsmanship makes a huge difference for the successful jig fisherman. A second point is equipment and line. I suggest making your jig rod your biggest purchase. This is the most important component for this specific application. This is also a technique that can be improved significantly using braided line. 8-)

amount of drag
You can measure your drag setting by putting free weights in a plastic grocery bag. Tie the bag to your line and GENTLY lift the bag with your rod. Loosen or tighten the drag to lift the bag off the floor. After experimenting with actual weight, I suspect you will discover that five pounds of drag is more than you will ever need. My reels are set between 3-4 pounds. 8-)

NRX problem
I have never had an issue with a G. Loomis rod. However, I have broken one and had it replaced through the Xpeditor service. My experience with Loomis customer service has been impeccable. Have the rod replaced if you are not 100% satisfied.

Transporting Rods
The Stickjackets are fine most of the time, but the Bazuka offers the ultimate protection.

soft plastic colors??????
You also need black with red flake. These three color combinations are all you really "need".

Casting Reel Advice....REVO, Daiwa, Shimano? I want to do it right the first time!
The poster is asking for some advice. It's pretty hard to select a reel when they all look nice new and seem to perform perfectly. I own a few Shimano reels and the STX. At the poster's pricing point, I recommend the Curado.

Strong, smooth, silent and reliant. I think you would be very pleased with the Curado CU200E7, I am.

Man VS Food has nothing on this consumer of mass quantities.
Man, I would like to see all that in a little Victoria Secret string bikini...black, of course!

new kistler on the way
I don't know...Kistler was a hot topic around here until guys actually fished them. I think there are much better values at the pricing point. For the most part, Kistler has been a bust.
