  1. Fish jigs exclusively for awhile. http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1189609782 8-)
  2. Post this in the "Tacklemaking" section, too.
  3. The Fat Ika is sturdy, there is absolutely no reason to fish a knockoff. The key is that very few people fish them...YOU should be one of them! ;D ;D ;D
  4. Pick your favorite, it's the lure, not the color, that makes a statement! This is by far my most productive topwater lure. 8-)
  5. These are the questions from your previous post which I was responding to: "So ok I cast the 5'' senko out on my 6'6'' rod with spinning gear and I let it sink for 20 seconds... then I give it a "pop" or a slow raise of the rod tip? how far do I want to raise the tip of my rod? Since these ponds are not mapped and I am not armed with depth finder and such from the bank what does the Senko do if I wait 20 seconds and it only took 5 seconds to hit the bottom? Does it still have action sitting there?" Before posting again...READ THE MATERIAL referenced in this thread. -Kent a.k.a. roadwarrior
  6. State your price target and I'm sure you will receive some great advice.
  7. You know, we have spent some time putting the Senko reference guide together. Those that have responded on this thread have taken the time to post specific articles describing how to fish the bait, IN DETAIL: The key to fishing both weightless is - you don't work them, they work for you. Both exhibit a natural, attractive, built-in movement as they simply fall through the water on a semi-slack line. Even deadsticked on bottom without moving a muscle for a surprisingly long time, both are irresistible to bass. If after deadsticking a while, if you haven't gotten a hit yet, simply raise the rod tip slowly, thereby raising your Senko or Fat Ika a few feet off bottom. Then lower the rod tip slowly so your lure again freefalls through the strike zone, fluttering back down to the bottom on a semi-slack line. Again let it rest there for the longest time, which is often when bass bite. Simply pause, lift and let fall repeatedly until you get a bite or until you're ready to cast again to another nearby target. So...YOU need to spend the time reading everything we have pointed out to you and stop asking silly questions...They have All been addressed in ***'s piece that I just referenced and MY thread posted earlier. It just ain't that complicated.
  8. Both smallmouth in my avatar were caught using #4 Yo-Zuri Hybrid. 8-)
  9. roadwarrior replied to krd22's topic in Fishing Tackle
    1. Change brands, I carry five 2. Try other colors 3. Vary your retrieve 8-)
  10. The Inside Line article by *** describes it perfectly. Here is another that might help: http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1158577137 If you can't figure it out with all the articles we have referenced, you will need to find someone that can give you a personal demonstration. -Kent a.k.a. roadwarrior Global Moderator
  11. This is posted a couple of lines up: WMD in Kentucky I am sorry the official roadtrip had to be cancelled, but I will be there for the unofficial one!! I have a room at the lodge from 5/1 thru 5/7-if anyone needs a place to stay--two queen beds. I also have room for one more in my boat if anyone is interested.
  12. MBR842C/ Core 50MG7 Soft enough for drop shots, firm enough for shaky heads. The balance is perfect, creating an illusion of near weightlessness. The rod loads well with light weights and casting is a breeze. I use this combination for a number of other applications, specifically, most moving soft plastics. It is fast becoming my favorite baitcasting rig. Back on topic, addressing spinning rod options: Take a look at the St. Croix Avid AVS68MXF. http://www.tackledirect.com/st-croix-avid-avs-series-spinning-rod-avs68mxf.html 8-)
  13. Welcome aboard! 8-)
  14. Isn't that the fish in his avatar? We have several guys that post great photos of gigantic bass. Fish Chris and his recent posting come to mind. The bass pictured on this thread is a beauty, too! 8-)
  15. Welcome aboard! 8-)
  16. Higher quality rods allow you to "feel" the structure and cover. Many guys can tell the type of grass they encounter as well as bottom features: mud, sand, gravel, hard and soft spots, ledges and humps. The rod transmits far more information than you realize. Fishermen who have mastered crankbaits use them as their #1 search bait. Mike Iaconelli talked at length about using crankbaits to find mussel concentrations along ledges on the Tennessee River. These are areas just a few yards long that are little sweet spots every fisherman is looking for. 8-)

  18. Here ya go: Maybe this will help: http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1141187546 Specifically: Technique specific rods are for "enthusiasts". Almost all your fishing can be done with just one rod. Beyond that, you only "need" three rods: Spinning: 6 1/2' or 7', M or MH, Fast Action (soft plastics and light lures) Baitcasting: MH or H, Fast Action (jigs, spinnerbaits, buzzbaits and all single hooks) Baitcasting: MH, Moderate Action (all treble hook lures)
  19. Well, most guys use several sizes. Personally, I prefer 3/4 oz, but also throw 3/8 and 1/2 oz spinnerbaits. Try some other sizes and see what works. 8-)
  20. Those are some fine fish! ;D ;D ;D
  21. Tributary arms, secondary points and vegetation are all likely areas. Any cover or structure out side the main channel are other options. 8-)
  22. Predators (smallmouth) generally face upstream waiting on baitfish to come to them. 8-)
  23. Hmm...I must have bought them when they were having problems a couple of years ago. I don't think I'll try them again. :-?
  24. If it is Medium Power/ Fast Action then soft plastics and light jigs are perfect. However, this would also be considered an "all around" rod. If it is Moderate Action, it is designed for treble hook lures regardless of the Power rating. 8-)
  25. This guy says white: http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1247326108/ ;D ;D ;D
