  2. Too bad about the fishing, but a great write-up anyhow! There's always "next time". Good luck, I'm sure you'll get 'em. 8-)
  3. Diameter and breaking strength are the same: #6 .010" diameter, ~ 11.9 lbs breaking strength; #12 .013", 19.5 lbs I think green blends better in the water. "Clear" looks white to me. 8-)

  7. Saturday I spent two hours targeting smallmouth without success. Switched gears and moved off the main channel to fish gravel banks targeting green fish in 4'-8' of water. We had excellent results with Xr50 traps; some luck with small Wiggle Warts and 6 1/2" GYCB Kut Tail on MegaStrike Shake2 jig heads. If TVA increases water release for the expected rain this week, the water may push up into the weeds. This combined with warmer temperatures should move the fish into the grass. My suggestion would be lipless cranks, Rage Tail Space Monkey and Smokin' Rooster. Weedless and weightless Senko and Fat Ika are other obvious choices. 8-)
  8. Now is a great time to bring out the lipless crankbaits.

  12. Rig the Kreature skirt forward. http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1180909581 Note: The Rage Tail Space Monkey and Smokin' Rooster are alternatives you should add to the mix. Similar action, different profiles. 8-)

  14. Hybrid doesn't require a special knot, you can tie what you like. I use a Palomar Knot for single hooks: http://www.animatedknots.com/palomar/index.php For bigger baits and treble hooks, the Sixteen-Twenty: http://jeffreywilkinsflyfishing.com/uploads/FROG_HAIR_PZIFTEN_KNOT.pdf 8-)
  15. Seriously...DO NOT SWING YOUR ROD STRAIGHT OVERHEAD... Cast either sidearm or at 2:00. The lure and weight should have a trajectory OUTSIDE your right shoulder. Also, "cast" the weight, not the bait. Start with the weight hanging down 6-8" below the rod tip. Cast using a smooth motion, allowing your rod to load on the backswing. Two more suggestions: (1) Use more weight than you think you need. I like 1/2 oz egg weights. (2) Move your bait with a horizontal sweep, not a vertical lift. The sweep causes your bait to be lifted off the bottom. A vertical lift raises your sinker, but only moves the bait forward, not up. 8-)
  16. The story I have heard: The Gitzit was "born" in Arkansas. It was designed to be a "do nothing" lure and fished when nothing else was working. Cast it out, light a smoke and drink beer! ;D ;D ;D
  17. Same here...the line could not be trusted. :-X
  18. Leader: At least a foot; generally 18-24"; sometimes more! Weight: At least 1/4 oz; I prefer 1/2 oz egg or barrel weight; lots of guys use an ounce or more! This should help: http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1120348381 8-)
  19. I generally prefer 7' rods, but 6 1/2' is easier to work for certain techniques: topwater and jerkbaits. If the rig is going to be used strictly for shallow and/or medium size crankbaits, my choice is the Avid AVC70MM. 8-)
