Johnny Morris Patriot spinning rod
Legitimate complaints. Hope you returned it and found something else.

Tow a 2,960lbs boat with a vehicle that has a 3,500lbs. tow rating?
i personally would be comfortable taking it on the short trip but probably not on a long drive on the interstate doing 70+.

Best bet for ultra light braid?
Yes, not using it for a while combined with overfilling will cause it to jump off the spool. Take some line off so its not overfilled. Then dunk the spool in warm water for a bit or use KVD line conditioner to get it to relax a bit. Once you start fishing with it you'll be fine and it will straighten out. The next time you use it it might take a few casts to relax again.

Latest Tackle Purchase Thread (Bait Monkey Victim Support Group)
Courtesy of the St Croix customer appreciation day sale for my dad. Avid X 7'0" M/M crankbait rod (B stock, discontinued model). I should have gotten one for myself because this thing is sweet.

Best bet for ultra light braid?
I use 4 lb mono on a 500 size reel to fish almost exclusively inline spinners without a swivel with no problems. What size line are do have on there now? If i was to switch to braid I'd use 10 lb. I dont see the benefit in going lower, only easier wind knots and cutting up my fingers.

New 6th Sense Axis Squarebill?
https://www.rapala.com/storm/hard-baits/hot-n-tot-series/original-hot-n-tot-/Original+Hot+N+Tot.html?cgid=storm-hardbaits-hotNTot&taglist=Storm|Hard Baits|Hot 'N Tot Series#start=1&cgid=storm-hardbaits-hotNTot Once these are old news someone will copy the metal lip off Supernatural Big Baits headlock/mattlock musky baits which eliminates the snap and uses a pin. But that would be even pricier ?. EDIT: I didnt realize the lip actually pivots. Thought they just threw a snap on a metal lip. Thes different i suppose. Not worth $15 to me but maybe to some.

Preparing for a fishing road trip
Second this. Get out on the water as early as you can before the place becomes a zoo. When you say lake michigan, do you mean door county/sturgeon bay? Thats where the bass are. If you're planning on just driving straight over to milwaukee you better bring the salmon/trout gear.

Any one have duplicate set ups?
No. Only take 4 with me, 2 spinning and 2 casting. I could get a few more before needing to double up. If I dont feel like retying then it's a perfect time to switch baits/rods unless i was catching fish before i broke it off. Even then I dont fish tournaments so i can take the 1 minute to retie.

Coping with the crowds this year
Not sure what this has to do with the comment you replied to about dangerous first time boaters. Anyways, just have to point out here that the mortality rate probably includes proper treatment, which you wont get if we don't "prolong the inevitable". If your goal is immediate herd immunity with a mortality rate of less than 1%, that means somewhere less than 3.3 million dead in the US (assuming mortality rate doesnt increase with no one getting treatment). Id prefer to minimize deaths until we can work out a vaccine, but that's just me.

Bear Encounters While Fishing
Had a small black bear run across the road about a quarter mile from the launch, thats about it. One came through the driveway and tore the american flag off the cabin a few weeks ago though. Caught him on a trail cam.

The latest sale thread
Its more than 20%. I got a $150 rod for $90 and a $220 rod for $132. Seems to be 40% which is 10% more than the usual 30% off retail for a B stock if you walk in the store any other time of the year. And thanks for not posting this until it went live ?. I got what I needed before a lot of things disappeared.

Did I make a mistake with my purchase? Accidentally got moderate action instead of fast.. grrr
Thats a premier crankbait series which they just discontinued this year. Which Im mad about because i have that exact rod and love it and wanted to get the medium/moderate version for something a bit lighter. Its a great crankbait rod if you want to keep it. Perfect for 1/2 oz baits. Otherwise return it.

Spro Pro Series Mike McClelland RkCrawler 55
I got 2 this winter to try this spring. Only threw one a bit for a day or two but caught a pike and a walleye. I can conclude it catches fish.

St Croix Rods
If you want a faster rod, try an XF. Go to the store and compare a fast with extra fast, any store should have one of each to see if theres a big enough difference for you. If you're not happy with the build quality, spend more on an Avid, moho bass, or get a different brand. Its all personal preference. I have the same model of the even cheaper line (Triumph) and I am happy with it. Somehow Ive managed to catch a fish with its flimsy tip that cant get good hooksets.

Equipment Overhaul
No, especially when its the same frame with a bigger spool resulting in the same weight. The bigger spool means faster retrieve speed and line should come off a bit easier for a small increase in casting distance. I don't believe there's any difference in drag washer size (but someone can correct me if im wrong). With something as light as a Ci4 you run the risk of throwing off the balance with the smaller sizes because they are too light for a 7' rod. All very nice stuff. Youve got all the bases covered with those 3 combos.

Upset with Cabelas/BPS
I suppose the big issue here is the cancelled onlines orders. If you go to the store and they are sold out, tough luck. But I would also be angry if an order were cancelled after it was placed. I have found the cabelas website to have gone downhill since the BPS acquisition. Theyve got multiple listings for the same thing or a separate listing for just one size of a certain bait.

Upset with Cabelas/BPS
In this case the stradic model is probably being discontinued for the next generation. Thats the only reason for the sale and they literally cannot get any more from shimano. Just speculation but thats how it worked when the current model came out.

Advice for catching Pickerel
Yup thats the gill rakers. If you go for a grip on the gill plate make sure to keep your fingers flat to the surface. I only try that grip on pike bigger than say 20" anyways.

Gill Hooking Fish....
They are simultaneously very tough, and unexplainably fragile and will sometimes die when everythings done right. All you can do is your best to treat them well (assuming you're not going to harvest).

Gill Hooking Fish....
Fish blood coagulates in water the same way ours does in air. Kind of an evolutionary necessity. Maybe there are some products that work even faster than water, but i laugh at anyone who mentions pouring sprite on a fish. I net all my fish and can easily pop them back over the side to recover if i can tell its going to take a little work to get hooks out. Edit: wow an old thread from 2011!

Upset with Cabelas/BPS
Cabelas price adjustment policy is they will give you the sale price if it goes on sale within 7 days of purchase. It excludes something like black friday deals though. I assume BPS is the same.

Sure I lost my new PB. Maybe the line is bad?
That stuff and berkely vanish are the two lines ive seen with the most negative feedback here.

Why are you not using a digital reel?
- I've never had a break off go quite like this. Have you?
That's what I'm thinking. It dug in and stretched, then when it broke the end retracted back down into the spool. - I've never had a break off go quite like this. Have you?
