  1. Yeah I acutally just gave Lews a call about 5 mins ago, the Mrs's said the internal brakes stay as they are, don't click or anything. The external breaks control them as they are adjusted. And yes sir, Lews for life!
  2. I ended up reading somewhere it looks like a dual braking system, but really the pins inside just do their own thing or something like that lol. I'm still a little bit confused, but I'm trying to figure it out. Thanks for the input!
  3. Hey guys I just ordered and recieved a Lews tournament pro G today. Quick question, so I see it has external brakes as well as 6 pin centrufugal braking inside the reel. My question is, I was trying to mess with the 6 pins inside, but they won't click on or off? Does this reel only let you adjust the external breaks, not the internal breaks? Update: Called them, and they explained it to me, thanks guys!
  4. Yeah those were infinity symbols, meant it as 6 gear ratio anythingf.
  5. For both I would get a 6:∞:∞, especially for fishing jigs, as you don't want it to be terribly fast for them. Although you can get away with a 7 gear ratio for crankbaiting, as some people like to burn them. Personally I use the 6 gear ratio for everything, as its got the best of both worlds. It's very versatile and you can fish it fast or slow if you need it.
  6. I gotcha, thanks for your input!
  7. I remember reading a comment you made, I believe it may of been like 4-5 years ago! LOL you actually recommended the same Avid X I was inquiring about to another gentlemen I believe. And yeah, I've ordered the Dobyns Champion and will expect it soon, I think that was the better choice over the St Croix, but I'll be sure to try one, one day lol. Thanks for the input!
  8. For cheaper reels, I would definitely look at Abu Garcia. Specifically the Black Max which is 50 dollars or the Silvermax which is like 10 more dollars. Me personally, I have the silvermax and I love it, if you search them up though there is extensive reviews on both reels and they get outstanding ratings.
  9. Oh no, I did'nt. I just wanted to clarify what I was trying to do lol. And yeah it sucks, you're playing a guessing game when ordering something cause you don't know if its gonna be at its 100 percent or not... Glad you got it fixed though!
  10. Yeah I probably just got a bad apple, but I had a bad first experience and didn't wanna go through another situation like that if I got another one. Not trying to put down the reel, like CybrSlydr said there are some great reviews on it and a lot of people preach it. I just wanted to share my experience with it, as it could be helpful.
  11. A few months back I ordered the Curado K and fished with it for about a week. I instantly had problems with closing the side plate, It would not completely shut and stay open. It was also a royal B in trying to shut it in the first place lol. I then had problems with the spool, It would not spin for whatever reason, but I eventually got that to work. Honestly it could of been user error with these problems, but I sent it back. On a positive note, I've never casted as far with a reel as I did the Curado K. I think you'll like it, I just had bad luck with it. Shimano is still my favorite company to buy reels from, I'm a huge fan of the casitas, absolutely love that reel.
  12. Yeah I gave the Avid a look, but I'm honestly more of a fan of split grip rods. I decided on the dobyns, because It's more versatile and given this combo I'm purchasing is gonna be my most expensive set up. I'm not sure I want a dedicated set up that pricy just yet. I'm sure I'll revisit the Avid X in a couple of months ?
  13. I appreciate that, thats what I was leaning towards! I've decided I'm going to stick with dobyns and probably get a champion XP. Thanks for all the help guys!
  14. Not sure if you have taken a look, but on tacklewarehouse the G loomis E6X spinnerbait rod 6'9 is on sale rn for like 30ish bucks off. I personally do not have it, but I've read some great reviews on it!
  15. Dang bro, those are some smexy looking combos! Bad A!
  16. For my lipless cranks/ shallow diving cranks I throw them on a dobyns fury FR 705CB paired up with a Lews BB1. Absolutley love this set up for cranks and I can bomb the lures 1/4 and up a mile away! Also have used it for trolling and have caught some decent stripers with it. Good luck with your search buddy! If you wanted to go up a little more in price, I'm sure the champion/sierra models have great crankbait sticks, I just have no experience with them.
  17. Yes I have, not on all but some jigs I would be using would be like either 1/16 or 3/16s with like a 2inch trailer not adding much weight. And I gotcha noted! One of the rods I've had in the back of my head is the Dobyns Champion and for 30 more dollars, I may go with that as I'm use to dobyns with having 3 of their furrys already.
  18. Sounds good! Thank you for the advice! I was giving the MH-F a look as well but the lure ratings on it are 3/8-1oz and the only reason I didn't pull the trigger on that is because everythiing I would probably cast on it is gonna be below 3/8oz...
  19. Interesting, and yeah I'll ask around for sure, didn't think about that. I appreciate the advice!
  20. You know I was thinking the same, as it they would be better on a MH/F but I saw and read various people using not so much chatterbaits, but spinnerbaits on a XF rod. Thanks for the input!
  21. Hey guys, I've been interested in getting another versatile bait casting set up. I have a reel I found and snatched it up, but I'm still having trouble with deciding on a rod. I like split grips and the 3 bait casting set ups I do have, are dobyns rods with miscellaneous reels. I came upon St Croix and saw the Avid X and it caught my eye. So my question for yall is, in particular I am deciding on whether or not I should buy the Avid X 6'8 M/XF rod. I found plenty reviews and posts on bassresource on that specific rod and they are 50/50, so I am at a lost on what I should do lol. The main thing that bothers me is I've never had a M/XF and do not know if it would be versatile enough for me. I've really only have had experience with MH/F, H/F and MH/MF rods. With this set up I plan on using Jigs, sub 3/8 oz, T-rigs, spinnerbaits, and chatterbaits. Also a silly question, but I saw a couple comments that people said M/XF rods are difficult on making accurate casts? Not sure if that is true or not? Any recommendations on other rods are appreciated as well, trying to stay in the 150-200 range. Now looking at the Dobyns CHampion line Thanks for yalls time!
  22. Honestly it looks like a strike king somethin?
  23. Either would do, but personally I like 6'6 rods better, give me a better feel and I feel like I'm more in control. But thats because I fish a lot of creeks/ponds, if I go to a lake then I'm using 7'0 and above usually.
  24. I use the casitas almost every time I go fishing and I absolutely love this reel! Havent had any problems with it and have had it for almost a year now.
