  1. You can use any color of line you want, that won't make a difference in your fishing. If anything, It's probably the time of day you're going, or how you're fishing the frog or the type of conditions, It can range. If I were you I would search up some videos and see what ya can learn from them, does'nt hurt! Best of luck
  2. I definitely needed to hear this lol. I learned and started to fish about a year or so ago(tack on some months lol) since then I've blown so much money on quite expensive gear( at least for me), I have been focusing on technique/skills but probably not as much as I should. Thanks again sir!
  3. Hey buddy, I live just outside of san antonio in the Schertz/Cibolo area. I don't have a boat or anything, so all my bass fishing is done from the bank. Like mentioned above, the are probably the most popular spots, a lot of my fishing is done on the Cibolo creek, a lot of good spots on there. And may be a little far for you, but Canyon lake has pretty good spots for fishing from the bank, some piers scattered around as well.
  4. The 663c was one of my first rods I got for baitcasting, and I got it for using senkos and spinnerbaits mostly. I've had it for a little while now and It's a excellent rod, very senstive at the tip and its a light set up as well, not too heavy. I had gone to the lake for the weekend and did'nt bring enough rods/reels, so I really only had this one and a spinning set up. I used it for really everything except frogs lol. It tossed crankbaits very well, spooks and you name it, it did a pretty good job! Very versatile rod!
  5. totally worth it and honestly the dobyns are very sensitive imo
  6. I would take a look at the Dobyns fury 705 CB and for the reel I would take a look at the Lews BB1
  7. either that or some monofilament, but I would use something to reduce slip.
  8. As long as you have line, a reel and a rod. You have the ability to catch any fish and mabye even a PB. These guides and rules were set because they are popular and have worked for many people, doesn't mean you have to follow them to be as successful.
  9. I now realize when its "shut" its not all the way closed, somethings preventing it. The pin does'nt go all the way back in either.
  10. I would agree with Choporoz given July 4th just rolled around and plus it could be a mixture of that and health issues going on with him. I would continue to wait a a couple or so more days before really trying to investigate and get the situation taken care of.
  11. Update, I was able to get off the side plate several times with the help of the edge of the table lol. I still cannot get it off with just my hands.
  12. Giving Lews a call right now, appreiciate it! Edit: I guess there hours are only on Monday-Friday, I'll wait till then. I was able to get it off yesterday a couple or so times, but it was extremley difficult. Now I cannot get it off. I appreciate everyones help and advice yall! I'll continue till monday to try and mess with it and see if I'm missing any little tricks or anything to pop it off, if not. I'll give lews a call and hopefully they will be able to help me out.
  13. Yeah guys I heard such good things about lews and is why I decided to purchase this reel. Honestly not sure if its user error or theres a problem with the reel. I brused 3 of my fingers trying to get the side plate off and gave up lol , gonna try again tommorow morning.
  14. I did, yes sir. Still cant get it off
  15. Hey guys so the ones who responded to my thread not too long ago, I decided to go with the BB1 speed spool. Right off the bat, I'm having a minor issue on taking the side plate off, I was able to get it off the first time, but it was sorta difficult. I thought doing it a few more times or so would help but I did not notice it getting easier or anything. As of right now, I can't get it off... Any suggestions?
  16. No experience with the helios but I did have the Curado K for about a week or two and sent it back. Honestly It's the smoothest casting reel I've ever had and real pretty, but I started having problems with the side plate not wanting to close, fixed that and then the next day the spool wouldn't spin for some odd reason, fixed that. It was just giving me too many problems for how short I had it and I was'nt going to play around with it anymore.
  17. Hey brotha I would take a look at the Dobyns line, the Dobyns colt is about 80 or so bucks but if you can afford it I would try and get a Dobyns furry they go for around 110( sure you could find one cheaper) You could get away with a Medium heavy/ Fast with everything you listed and more, but it wouldn't handle frogs very well. For frogs you'll gonna wanna get a Heavy/Fast at least. I would also take a look at the Ugly Stik Elites, good rod and very durable for around 50 or so bucks. Good luck sir! Hope I could help
  18. A good reel because generally they tend to run a little bit more pricy than a good rod.
  19. I see I see, appreciate the words man! Quicker
  20. I mean is the side plate a royal B to get off?
  21. If you have'nt I would suggest going on youtube and looking at the different ways of casting a baitcaster, sometimes it can be real tricky to get it down.
