  1. In my neck of the woods, anglers share their knowledge with others and so to speak, trade information and new tactics. I've never seen someone hassle someone for trying a certain type of outfit or using a bait wrong, people are pretty helpful and understanding from what I've seen. I know theirs probably someone out there that probably isn't as kind though.
  2. Generally for baitcasters, common test for braid people use is 30-40lbs. And it will handle pretty much everything you throw at it. The lighter you go, the more likely it can dig in and cause problems. Thats why people usually stay above 30. For Spinning most common is about 6-20 lb test. Because spinning is usually used for lighter stuff and not heavy stuff like braid, you can get away with that light test. Now for the leader debate, I believe if you are fishing in rocky waters or sharp objects are in the water like zebra mussles, you should tie a leader on as braid is not super abrasive resistive like fluro is. I also believe fish, especially bass are not line shy, so you do not need a leader to hide the braid from them. I use straight braid for mostly anything, but I like using mono/fluro for crankbaits. If I were you, I would do a set up for mono, then a set up for braid and compare which one you like better, I've never been a big fan of fluro. Straight braid is unforgiving if you swing for the heavens, but if you do a swift light hookset, you'll be fine.
  3. If you search braid opinions on bassresource, there'll be at least 100 threads that pop up, if you want more opinions. I would def go 30-40lb Powerpro or 30-40lb suffix 832
  4. Hey guys This might be a silly question, but I was doing some reel maintenance today on a few of my reels and this question ran through my mind. Does reel oil harm/damage fishing line? On these reels I have braid on them to be specific. I was'nt doing any deep cleaning, so nothing was dissambled, I was just applying reel cleaner first then some drops of oil on the worm gear, brakes, the guide, etc. If some of the reel oil was to drop on the line itself, would any harm come out of that? Thanks guys
  5. The Curado name in general, has been known as the workhorse and most popular in the shimano line since it came out. I would definitely spend the little extra cash and get the curado DC.
  6. I would never strap a kayak bungee corded to the top of my vehicle, thats crazy. All of the videos you sent show the kayaks on top of the vehicle. Like I said, mine is in the back of my truck. Tail gate up. Additionally I also put 3 bungee cords going across it, top, middle and bottom. I'm not going crazy speeds and I make sure to keep a eye on it. To note as well my bed is almost 7 feet in length with the kayak being 10 feet in length just barley hanging over the locked tailgate. With that said, I didn't know there was so much concern about bungee cords, will definitely look at other options to possibly replace them with.
  7. The yak aint going anywhere, its not like I leave any slack, its tight as can be. Plus the areas I've been too I can usually just take back roads to get there, never really hit the highway. Whats so bad about bungee cords? They were made just like ratchet straps and other stuff to keep your stuff from falling and moving out.
  8. I just use bungees for my kayak, sometimes I use nothing and close the tailgate.
  9. Like fishing, collecting a bunch of lures and new baits becomes a hobby and addicting, can't stop till you have a million of each type of lure ?
  10. Austin has a awesome graffiti park thats pretty neat, may be something you are into! Franklin BBQ has some mean brisket For fishing purposes, late october its probably gonna be in the 70's and 80's, jiggin with a crawdad has done me good in the fall as well as using smaller spinnerbaits.
  11. If I start feeling less confident catching fish because of the small amount of line I have on the spool, I usually rip it off and spool on new line. Or I'm feeling cheap, I just bloodknot new line.
  12. People sleep on Trilene XL/XT, good cheap line, its a underdog
  13. This was about 3 or so years when I hit those times. I still run, but I took up lifting after I had a stress fracture on my hip and now I'm pretty big compared to what I was in my running days. Now im about 175 compared to 140 when I ran those times lol. Dang man you know the percentages on the dot! Thats awesome. I have friends that have ran sub 4 1500's, but not a 1600. I was a cross country/track running all throughout highschool so I have friends that took it to college and was able to watch them run. I have plans to, but not sure when. Have you ran either of them? I've had buddies run marathons as well and it just took everything they had lol
  14. Man we have sorta similar times, my PR's are 1 mile- 5:40 5k- 19:05 and never raced a 10 mile just in practice lol. Running is a great hobby to have and very rewarding
  15. One of the best ways to stay in shape by far is getting out there and running, if not running, walking if you can for 30-45 mins a day. Although myself, I took up lifting about 5 years ago and cardio is the devil now!
  16. like everyone said, really anything
  17. Not sure if someone has stated it yet, but I think its not so much that a particular brand is better than another, but there are differences between braid, fluro and mono and each one has its advantages and disadvantages.
  18. Honestly I would just save your money for now and use strictly spinning gear till your hand heals up.
  19. Back when i was looking a 3-5 months ago, the common price was 130-150 for them.
  20. All I've ever used is a 6 gear ratio reel, needa bump up to 7:1;1
  21. The easiest way to learn for me, when I first started using baitcasters was using the side swing. I would backlash almost every time trying to go overhead, and i got height, but not distance lol. Using the side arm motion especially starting off, I'll believe you get more distance and hopefully less frustrations(concerning backlashes) With that said, everyones different and that was just my experience.
  22. Thats freaking awesome, hope you catch some biggins
