  1. If you think about it fellows, the more rods/reels you hold on your yak as I saw someone say they had 15 at a time, are all potentials rods/reels that could get dunked and lost in the water. A kayak is not as a stable as a boat and I feel like most yakkers have at least flipped over or fell in once and gear could be lost. Keep that in mind when piling your yak with such stuff.
  2. I bring only 3, a spinning and two bait casters, both usually mh/f so I can throw anything on them. Will substitute my third one with a speciality for crank baits or frogging or whatever if I’m feeling it.
  3. First largies of the year, went back to my roots of fishing and hit the creek!
  4. I have a Feelfree Molken 12.5 that is considered a stand in kayak, but I would not suggest it. It's pretty wobbly, but with practice, you would be able to do it.
  5. I feel like once you hit, lets say the 200 dollar and up reels, they start to max out at how efficient and great they can be. I feel there is a smaller difference between reels that are 200 bucks vs 400 bucks, not to say there aren't differences, but if you compare a 25 dollar reel to a 150 dollar reel, you are gonna see a huge difference, between a 200 and a 400 dollar reel, not as much of a difference.
  6. Thanks guys! Gonna go with the bed extender, a lot of options, so just gonna buy one based on reviews and such. Also probably gonna buy some tow mirrors to help with seeing better back there (just a excuse to get them as I like how they look ?)
  7. I'm sure I could find a effective way to do it, but I don't think its worth the hassle for me, plus I'm clumsy so I know sooner than later I would end up dropping the yak on me or denting the yak and truck taking it off lol.
  8. Leaning towards a bed extender, I like the roof rack a little better, but just imagining how I'm gonna get it on top and then get it down, is gonna be a little rough.
  9. Got my new decal added on the truck! Ever since I first started fishing, when I was 18(which is when I started college, now graduating this semester!) back in the year of 2018, anything and everything I was curious about fishing, I came right to this site and its literally served as my dictionary for everything fishing related. I've learned so much from you guys and am still learning a ton every time I visit. Thank you Bass resource and I'm hoping other noobies like I was to bass fishing will find their way here.
  10. If I go that route, I'll probably pick up some tow mirrors or something on those lines. I'm not sure if it would be safe to say, but I feel like It would be hauling a mini trailer with it sticking out like that with the bed extender. I eventually probably will get a trailer, but they are pretty pricy.
  11. Hey guys, I recently acquired a new kayak about a month or so ago, and I upgraded from a 10 foot kayak to a 12.5 kayak. For some reason, my 10 foot kayak fit perfect and never had any issues hauling it, the 12.5 has been a little difficult. I haul my kayaks with my truck which is a double cab silverado with a 6.6 bed, but I have a toolbox that takes up some space. Because of the added space from the kayak, I'm not comfortable with how much it hangs off when I close my tailgate and have been looking at options to better haul it. I've been looking at bed extenders, particularly the ones that go in the hitch and give some extra room. Anyone have any experience with those? Did it make any more difficult of pulling out of spaces, watching corners, etc?
  12. I do pretty much the same, but I've got the point where I pull out a certain amount of line and if it feels right, I just fly with it.
  13. I would give dobyns rods a look! I've grown to love them and they are well made. The first one, I would throw spinnerbaits, spooks, spoons, chatterbaits, buzzbaits and anything else that is heavy for the rating. The second one, I would throw about anything, very versatile rod/reel. The third one I would throw treble hook lures. The fourth one I would throw any finesse type baits, softbaits, small buzzbaits, small spinnerbaits, etc the fifth one I would throw my smallest baits.
  14. I believe you can be very successful with just using soft plastics, as there are so many types of presentations with plastics. You can throw a creature, crawdad, worm, swimbait, and under those there are countless of different looking plastics that fish a different way and have there time and place to excel. Compared to like a crankbait, where all cranks are pretty much the same looking with just different colors, soft baits can be very different from each other, the only similarity is that they are made out of plastic.
  15. Will look into how much they'll charge me to ship a rod, last I checked I thought it was upwards of 30-40 bucks to ship.
  16. Thanks guys! Posted one of my reels I'm willing to part ways with on the flea market section! Gonna keep that rod it was on. And then sell my other rod/reel combo as a whole locally.
  17. Enough for my kayak! Boat's not coming for another 5 plus years or so!
  18. I agree with you there on the family hand downs, my first rod/reel I acquired was from my papa's old barn and I ain't ever getting rid of that one.
  19. Hey guys, as I first started fishing in 2018, from the get go I started buying anything and everything regarding fishing and have not yet to stop! Because I caught the bait money, I have amassed a ton of tackle and such throughout the years. Which leads me to my problem, I have a total of about 13 different rod/reel set ups and through fishing with all of them, I have picked out my favorites and find myself grabbing for that specific combo every time I head out the door to go fishing. I have a few set ups that hardly ever get used and compared to my favorites, I'm not a huge fan of them anymore. My question would be, once you guys figured out what brands or set ups or whatever you liked the most, did you sell off the ones that didn't make the list or hold on to them? I'm in a situation where I don't know if I should sell of the ones that don't get much use or just have them as back ups or such, or even just get the money to buy more of my favorite brands and such. Any feedback is appreciated, thank you guys!
  20. Never done fantasy before! Not even for football, definitely gonna check this out!
  21. Looks pretty neat! Love my dobyns, may have to give it a try
  22. What I do is, I usually keep the soft baits rigged till I can't use them no more. Very rare I have any used ones left over, usually just keep them rigged on the rod. But sometimes I throw them in my vest, when I'm in need of a soft bait that I ran out of the new ones, I check my vest.
  23. My first baitcasting reel was a Abu Garcia Silvermax when I first started fishing, I was 18.
  24. Welcome to the forums!!
