  1. Agreed, just thought I would rack the minds of everyone lol
  2. I just see how the rod balances with my reel, and if it feels good, then I go ahead and rock with it. I do keep in the back of my head though that if a rod is too heavy, It's gonna make me tire out a little quicker.
  3. Hello, I've been using bait casters for a few years now, and have always used a right hand retrieve and I am right handed. Not trying to dig into the debate of right hand retrieve vs left hand retrieve, but for the individuals that have switched or use both retrieves, is there any difference with using your dominant hand/arm when setting the hook that you have noticed or even just working the lure? Thanks
  4. I grew up in a military family, we moved around a lot, base to base. My dads last duty station was here in Texas, and a creek ran through the town we were at. I got a late start to fishing, about 17 years old when I picked it up. I learned to fish at that creek and it was in a middle of nowhere, made me fall in love with nature and fishing at the same time, peaceful and quiet.
  5. Welcome to the forums man!
  6. Improved clinch, keep it simple.
  7. All I gotta say is no way Jose
  8. Very pretty out there! Definitely looks a lot different than my neck of the woods lol. @ol'crickety Love that, awesome getting the family involved! @Bluebasser86 Went fishing at the river this morning, was doing some wading and caught some bass. Hooked a turtle as well, luckily was able to get him off the hook. A couple kiddos ran up and wanted to pet the bass too, was pretty neat lol. Second picture is of a Guadalupe bass I believe.
  9. I've been thinking about this as well, Roland Martin is one of my idols for fishing and always thought about the black sharpie trick.
  10. Thought it was a catchy name to use for the forums. No significant reason why I chose it lol.
  11. Got home from work, a rough day. Hit the pond real quick for a little bit.
  12. One of the reasons why I picked up fishing is because I love being out by the water, whether it's a creek, lake, river, pond, etc. It's a joy when you hook up on a biggin or a dink, fighting the fish and bringing it in is a blast. Some days you get skunked, that's the name of the game. Simply being out there and enjoying nature in my book is one of the best feelings.
  13. Hey guys, Changing out line on one of my older set ups, a Curado 50e paired with a Dobyns sierra MH/F, I primarily use this set up for unweighted or slightly weighted T-rigs. With this set up, I also fish the braid straight, no leader. Looking for recommendations on current braid out there, been a while since I've shopped for new line. Thanks
  14. Ned rig or wacky rig with your favorite worm, no longer than 5 inches.
  15. 9 Baitcasting set ups, 5 spinning set ups and 1 fly fishing set up. Working on cutting down though.
  16. I've always just used needle nosed pliers, like so. Does the trick for me.
  17. I posted this a long while ago, but I just wanted to thank everyone for their replies. I've been in the field for a little bit now, and now am fishing a lot more than I was the last couple years.
  18. Kind of sounds like a roboworm to me? May be lacking the ribs though.
  19. Spinnerbait I always get hung up and end up going through many. Never had to much luck with them for whatever reason.
  20. An artificial worm is what I feel the most confident with. So many different ways to fish it depending if you're using a ribbon tail, straight, finesse, etc. Love the different types of artificial worms available today. Wacky rigged or T-rigged fishing it slow and steady does the trick for me.
  21. I started out with a Shimano Casitas, don't believe they make them anymore, I believe the comparable is the Shimano SLX. For the rod, I used a Dobyns fury. This set up treated me pretty good.
