I like my baitcaster, but…
My rule of thumb in recent years has been if I plan on using a Medium Heavy and up rod, more likely it's paired with a baitcaster. Medium rods and below, I like to use it with a spinning reel.

Latest Catch Pics Thread
Recently moved to a new apartment complex, and there is a huge pond out in front of it. Decided to go give it a try. Caught 5 large mouth and even a couple catfish, nothing huge, but decent fish.

Always shorter rod for kayak?
The longest rod I've used in my kayak was a 7'1". Being in a kayak, it allows you to get into tight spots as compared to a boat, in this circumstance I could see a shorter rod being beneficial when you are under a tree or sorts of that nature. Other than that, I've never really payed attention to the length of my rod when I'm yaking. Fish with what your comfortable with.

Budget spinning rod
If I were you, I would just take a trip to a local academy, basspro whatever it may be and test out the rods in your price point. If I had to name a rod, possibly a berkley lighting.

Braid vs Mono on a baitcaster re backlashes?
If you're using a baitcaster, I would say you are bound to backlash at some point no matter the line you are using. Braid has become more popular over the years due to it being strong, durable, and a pretty sensitive line.

Favorite blade/pocket knife/multi-tool? What do you carry?
I carry a Kershaw clash, not a bad little pocket knife.

Bass books related to soft plastics
Hello everyone! Been a minute since I've posted. It's been hard getting out to the water the past year or two and so I've decided to start picking up bass fishing related books. I've read Roland Martins 101 bass catching secrets which was a great read. I've recently picked up "There he is!" by Bill Dance and am interested in finding similar books that have a focus on artificial worms/or soft plastics. Any recommendations? Thanks yall

Work and Fishing
Hey guys! How do yall find a balance between work and fishing? Long story short, I've recently started a career in law enforcement as a police officer and am struggling to find time to go fishing. When I was in college, or even before then it was so easy to just grab a pole and go out to the creek or lake or whatever, but It's been pretty tough since I've been in this line of work.

What does everyone do for a living?
If you don't mind me asking, what steps did you take to become a police officer? I know times have changed drastically, but just curious. I just graduated with my B.A. in criminal justice with a minor in environmental science and my only experience is about a year being a park ranger as far as law enforcement related jobs go. Currently trying to pursue something in the law enforcement field.

Anyone ever used (or use) a MH/MF rod for weightless Texas rigs?
You know I was watching a Roland Martin video the other day, and depending on the coverage he's fishing, he goes as far as using heavy action rods for soft plastics. What it boils down to is what you are comfortable with and what you have the most success with. I don't particularly pay attention to the power/action as much as I use to

You guys like the old stuff?
Had to come back and reread the content in this post, truly is fascinating to learn the history and see pictures of these antique reels. I just bought a reel that was made in 2004ish, and to me that was antique ?. Awesome to see older reels still being used, I've been expanding my collection of trying to obtain older reels, started with a Shimano Curado E (bare with me, I know 10 years ain't old to a lot of yall, but it is with me, I just started fishing in 2018.) and recently obtained a slightly older reel, a Shimano Chronarch 50mg. Plan on picking up another older Shimano or may even branch out to other brands when funds allow.
