Things To Do During The Freeze
Idk about prime time, at least here in Texas, but we definitely have better fishing compared to the North right now!

How do you choose a new rod?
I read a long time ago, not sure if there's any truth to it, but what I do if I buy a rod in store to help better see how it feels. I put the tip to the ground, guides facing upwards and bend it to get a sense of feel of the action and this gives me a better sense of how it may fish. Now, I would say 75% of the rods I own, I've ordered online and just do a ton of research on it, reading articles, reviews and not just research on the rod, but also the company and see how long they have been around, their customer service, and even see how they came about to get a better sense of how they make their rods and if they truly make them the best they can. In store, I would also talk to the employees and see if they know anything about the rod you are considering and see if they could offer you advice on it.

Fishing rod- Ducketts
Hey guys, I just got myself a Ducketts micro magic casting rod for Christmas. I opened it up and as I was rigging it up, feeding line through the guides. I noticed one guide was blocked by the wrap/adhesive or whatever that holds the guide in place. I could not insert anything through, I tried a nail and other such stuff, but did'nt wanna risk breaking the guide off. Any ideas on what to do? Want to try all options, before I think about sending it back to ***, to save the hassle.

So many DC’s. So little money.
I've heard such good things about the DC, from the curado and SLX, but I really just have no urge to get one. The technology seems all great and all, but I feel if you know how to use a non DC baitcasting reel, properly set tension, drag, breaks, etc, you're all good to go. I may be wrong when I say this, but the DC type reels I feel are more geared towards people learning to use bait casters as they are more user friendly. Although I get it, they can make your life a lot easier with not having to be as precise with your settings as a non-dc reel. I just don't see the huge benefit in them, but I do feel they are great for someone to learn how to use a baitcasting reel.

I'll definitely take more precautions in the future and I hardly ever go out in these cold months, and I feel you on that! I was actually taught otherwise, wet clothes can absorb a lot of heat so the heat goes to the clothes, not your body. Plus it was in the 30s, but the sun was starting to shine, so I was trying to soak that up.

Into the drink
Hey guys, I know there are countless posts about this type of stuff, but I thought I would share my story from today. I was out with a buddy, taking my new kayak on its maiden voyage and tipped over when I tried to stand on it. I was only in about 5ish feet of water, but boy it was cold and about 30 degrees out. I lost my truck keys and glasses, and glad I didn't lose anything else. Some stuff I learned from today, if you are fishing in the cold, I would make sure to bring extra clothes and and some type of heat blanket, one thing I didn't prepare for and had to freeze out there in my underwear, when I took the wet stuff off. And as always, wear your PFD! I came up in a split second when I fell over, thanks to it! Be safe out there my fellow yakkers!

I skipped fishing today and my wife had me rearranging furniture.
Or do it yourself, and save that money you would pay someone to do your tasks and buy more fishing gear.

Once in a lifetime stories?
3 months ago I was fishing for bass, and using soft baits. I was having no luck and tied on a spinnerbait for the heck of it, caught a nice catfish with the spinnerbait, about 4th cast and was amazed. Another time, I was out kayak fishing for about 5 hours and was getting tired towards the end, was throwing weightless soft plastics, wanted them to drop quicker, so i tied a 1/4oz bullet weight on and said I'll do one more cast with this set up, casted and caught my PB, a 4.5 pounder.

Upgrade kayak or move into a jon boat?
If anyone that is interested, I let the weight capacity get to me and canceled the order. Ended up purchasing a feel free molken 12 footer v2 instead, found a awesome deal on one and met everything I'm looking for

Preparing for a new boat
Ended up just upgrading to a better kayak. Thanks for your input though! Decided that waiting for a boat is best, as I am on the verge of graduating college and have more things to figure out than worrying about storing, maintenance and other such things for a boat. I will revisit buying a boat in another year or two, but I determined that I always want to have a kayak as well and the one I currently I have is a cheap 150 dollar pelican. I found a really good deal on a Feel free yak, that I believe will be awesome to paddle, and potentially may put a trolling motor on it. When the time is right, hopefully I can find a pretty good deal on a jon boat or even bass boat, who knows, give it a couple years and I might even have enough money to buy a new bass boat! Thanks everyone for yalls inputs
