My two cents: First; look into a sneaky pete or that type of holster. Most people just think it's a cell phone case.
As for summer carry there are many options and choices, However the best answer is what are you comfortable shooting.. A well placed 22 round, is way more potent than a 50 cal that misses the intended target. I carry 9mm mostly, however in certain situations like when I am preaching, I carry this. Double barrelled 22 mag shown below. I actually shot a field rat with this gun at 10 yds in my barn. It is not my first choice of course, "but is loads better than a rock".
When I first took my CCP, The instructor ask my what my comfort range, If someone pulled a knife and started running at me? WELL, I said about 300 yards and he cracked up. The truth is and what he doesn't know, is that I often shoot across a powerline where I hunt at a friends place and with my ruger 308, I kill deer regularly, so I was just being honest. lol Whatever you choose, practice often and always pray for the best, but be prepared for the unexpected.
