  1. Katie, this post has applied pressure to me. From now on I'm wearing the PFD that I have been carrying around but never wearing. Reading the comments has jarred my pea brain into action. I'm an old, stumble bum that really needs to wear one but have been too lazy to do so. Thank you @Swamp Girl and all the folks who have commented on this!
  2. A great lure under the right conditions. I use a snap because I struggle with seeing the line and tying the knot. Never had any problems with a snap.
  3. "Al, as time passes, I love my pond more and more. You know how one can tire of a place, no matter how lovely? That's not me, not with my pond." Katie, I know you do! Your writing shows your passion and love. You are my kinda angler!
  4. @Swamp Girl I hope you never get tired of accolades because you sure deserve 'em! Great report and photos. Loving the scenery!!!!
  5. If you are fishing an area that has a concentration of adult bass (which is what you are looking for) you will catch 1 or 2 even if your speed and depth isn't quite right. At that point you can start fine tuning your speed and depth until you get it right. If at that point you are not catching fish then the school is either spooked, or they have moved, or that first fish or two you caught has fooled you into thinking there was a concentration of fish in that area but there wasn't. Now that is an area that is worth re-checking because sometimes you can fool yourself.
  6. @GRiver "there is always something that put a kink in the chain. If they aren’t biting……we’ll let’s just say it makes it tough to catch them." How many times have you caught a pile of fish and others on the same lake have caught little? How many times have you caught little and others on the same lake caught a pile? How many times has a tournament winner caught a big bag and others have caught little? I contend there is always a way to catch fish. That's where the "player" comes in!!!
  7. Was watching a football game and one of the announcers calling the game (I don't remember what game it was or who the announcer was) said this after an exceptional play, whether it was a great run, or a great throw, or a great catch, or a great block. It stuck in my mind and I got to thinking of an analogy to bass fishing. I think what he was saying is that even a great play call is not so great without the skill and ability of the player executing it. In other words, a great play is only mediocre with a mediocre player. So as bass anglers, if we are exceptional (in our choice of locations, choice of matching our lures to the conditions, skill with our equipment, etc.), will that result in more and bigger bass? If we fish in a manner that is not exceptional will that result in a poor day on the water? I realize that there are a lot of moving parts on the field or on the lake so maybe I've got more B.S. than a Kansas feedlot but what are your thoughts?
  8. Ain't nobody catches as many bass as Katie! "Al(exander the Great) would call catching 193 bass "my Iowa weekend." Thank you, Katie. You make me blush.
  9. Didn't need a clicker today. I ain't the sharpest stick in the bunch but I can count to 6 without help! All came on dynamite in Sexy Shad. Just kiddin'...
  10. My heart goes out to those who have struggles and I congratulate those who have success. I have fished through fishless days that I remember but not regret.
  11. You are too funny!!!!!!!!!! Did you catch 212 bass today, Al?? No, I quit clickin' at 50, lotsa 14 inchers.... Looking forward to your report when it warms up!
  12. Clear, calm, and cool when I started. The cool didn't last. The bass were salivatin' over a squarebill ( Ichikawa RC Flat Shad). I'm not gonna tell you how many 'cause you wouldn't believe me. I could hear the clatter of the combines as they chewed through the Iowa cornfields on the flat ground above the lake and see the dust clouds of their picking rising above the timbered lake bed. It's a special time of year in Iowa! Caught 'ol one eye!
  13. This is a 16 inch bass that weighed 4# 9 oz! Bellied up to the bluegill buffet! Katie says this bass was eating softballs! Lookit the size of her mouth and compare it to the size of her belly!
  14. I have one and need to get more. I like it and it catches bass. Recently bought the Copper Red Tsunami, and it's much bigger but haven't used it much yet. I have a lot of confidence in the Big Gabot.
  15. Certainly not the gear experts that have commented here. I use Falcon Lowrider rods, I think they are 200 bucks. Love them. I wanted to have a backup for the All 'round model so I bought the BuCoo model with the same ratings for 100 bucks. It does not feel the same. Same length, same ratings, different grip, different color but it doesn't feel right. Is it all in my head?
  16. "I hope your fishing furnace still burns bright." I think you and I will always keep the furnace stoked!
  17. @Swamp Girl Katie, as I've said before, you have a wonderful way with words!!
  18. Another great report and photos from FrauleinFour-Pounder! Katie, you have the heart of a great angler!
  19. Ran into a school of biguns' today! A wad of these too! All on Ol' Monster! Mr. Clicker said 41...
  20. @Swamp Girl "changing my screen name to abouthalfalottabass." Maybe BogBabe would be better! 🤭
  21. Wishing you the best. You have made a difference in the lives of all the BR members. Thank you!
  22. Not supposed to use jerkbaits in dirty, hot water. What BS! Not supposed to use deep diving crankbaits in shallow water. More BS!
  23. Woops! At least the Buick was all the way in the garage!!!😁
  24. All horizontal today, and they wanted it fast! Swim jig, fluke, snagless sally, sluggo, spinnerbait, hybrid hunter. Mr. Clicker said 34 bass and a couple of crappie on a fluke.
