  1. Then we were both smiling! You were fishing in spirit! I thought about you every time that Wiggle Wart stopped wiggling!😁
  2. Pleasent day, air warmed to 60, water was still 49 (warmer than I thought it would be). Caught 9 on a squarebill, 14 on a Wiggle Wart. Couldn't find a big 'un, but pretty good for Nov. 22! Should have spent time chasing crappies, as they were bunched up big time!
  3. I only like ice in my coke. None in Iowa yet, but it's coming. Gonna be a nice weekend and then...at least we have memories!
  4. @HawkeyeSmallie "There's a "secret" public lake I've recently found out about that holds some pretty large fish for Iowa. Like 6 and 7 pounders. It is not a large lake. I'll hopefully take a crack at her still this year." Our good weather is coming to an end. GO NOW! It's the time to get 'em!
  5. @Swamp Girl does this, she doesn't have sonar. Your eyes can help you find bass. Anytime I see a cut or pocket in the bank I always investigate out in front of that pocket for a channel or deeper water. When the lake was new that channel may have been well defined but after years of silting in now it's just an area that is a little deeper. It can still make a difference and hold bass.
  6. Yes, but I found it BS, (Before Sonar), with a crankbait. This ditch has been producing bass off and on for years.
  7. Water temp was still 48. Air was 45. Cloudy, misty all day. No wind. Caught 4 crappie on a Stunna, 7 bass on a Wiggle Wart. First pic is a small cut with a channel that runs out to the main creek channel at 10 ft. Wiggle Wart hiway! Most of the bass were in here. Crappie had broad shoulders! Found another muskrat winter home!
  8. Always plugging for northern anglers!
  9. I wish! Into a drought again here. Lake levels have been dropping like a 20 pound anchor! Yes, that's what I think it is, but I love all these funny comments!
  10. You guys are soooo funny! I luv these comments!
  11. @Smirak Hehe! We know how to grow things in Iowa!
  12. Talking about big, cold water bass....whadja think? Another warm, windy day. Air was 69, water was 49. Caught 21 on shallow and deep crankbaits. I love it when their chompers get red in cold water!
  13. Didja ever have one of those days when you left the lake scratching your head? I caught 6 small bass and 2 crappie yesterday. I fished hard and still never figured them out. I'm in Iowa and it was 79 degrees when I left the lake! Surface temp was up to 49.
  14. It wasn't there 3 weeks ago....???
  15. Now the water is gonna be in the 40's. Fish lures and areas that will produce in the winter. Channel banks, the dam, deep, green weeds if you can find them. Jigs, jerkbaits, crankbaits. I would stick to winter areas and winter baits. I think you can waste a lot of time, even on a small lake trying to fish the whole lake with all the baits in your box. If you catch an adult bass there are more around, especially now. Have fun, and go catch 'em!
  16. Katie, you are too good to me. Thank you!
  17. Windy, warm day in Iowa. Water temp 43. Air warmed to 66 this afternoon. Got 3 good ones and 4 smaller ones. All on an old, brown wiggle wart.
  18. Absolutely wonderful photo!!!
  19. In my youth I used to fish when the ice was just forming and would go down a bank and bust it up. On a sunny day it would stay open. Give it some time to rest and go back and catch 'em. At 75 I can fish if it's sunny and the wind is below 15mph. Even on a warm, sunny day if the wind is blowing across 40 degree water it's COLD. Forecast is for light south winds and 50's on Thursday and Friday. Water temps are gonna be in the 40's. I'm already tingling with excitement. Some say life is 90% anticipation.
  20. Luv winter fishing! Catch a lotta bass with brown bellies in cold water. What does that tell ya?
  21. Just because you have a day with little to show for it doesn't mean you are a lousy fisherman. A trip report that describes what happened and maybe the anglers thoughts on why the poor results would be beneficial. "If I fished only to capture fish. my fishing trips would have ended long ago." Zane Grey
  22. I pretty much love the reports and photos. The photos of the location and of the countryside are great and I really enjoy seeing those. Thank you to all who post!
  23. I ordered one. Thank you!
  24. I don't just "like it", I love it!
  25. @padlin "Kind of like a parachute, you don’t really know till you actually need it." Yikes! I think about all the soldiers who have jumped out of a perfectly good airplane and have depended on a parachute, and the unknown person who packed it!
