  1. True Mike. I think sometimes guys are too lazy to change up, or they always want to throw more weight for casting distance. It can make a big difference.
  2. Agree. They would clear him no matter what happened
  3. In past threads on soft plastic and jig fishing, Catt has mentioned the rate of fall several times, as an important factor in getting strikes from bass. This info is right on, and 100% correct. I learned this concept the hard way. Drawing an older, more experienced angler in a club tournament over 30 yrs ago. My partners favourite bait was a Culprit ribbon tail worm, blk/blue color. Within the first hour at the start of the tournament, he clipped off his hook, and changed his weight 3 times. On the third time, he had it dialed in, and caught several fish, while I continued to fish with a 3/8 bullet weight. He later explained that he always did this, adjusting his weight until he hit the correct fall rate. Even though the Culprit was his #1 choice, he told me that the rate of fall was what caught the fish, and considered that the important factor, over color or bait type. A lesson learned, and filed away years ago. For the beginners here in bass fishing, try not to make the same mistake I made years ago. Carry several different weights with you, and don't hesitate to change to a lighter or heavier weight as needed. This concept holds true with t rigs, shakey heads, ball head jigs, and standard skirted jigs of all types. Dial in your rate of fall. It's a proven fact, and can help you catch more bass.
  4. I fished a few club events years ago with a guy who never carried more than 4 rods/reels with him. He won or placed near the top many times. Since watching him years ago, I mostly carry 4 now too. I'm not fishing tournaments any more, so if I have to take a minute to change baits it's no big deal to me.
  5. Well Mahomes has been cleared to play on Sunday. This should help out tremendously. But the Chiefs better step it up and block for him. I still say in many cases, defense is what wins football games.
  6. I've fished in the rain before too. A light rain won't bother me, and it can get some fish biting good also
  7. Even though I fish 2 small lakes that don't have shad, the shad color has worked the best overall.
  8. Most folks, after they've fished for a number of years, develop certain preferences in rods and reels. What's the best for one person, may not work out for another. Do you prefer a straight grip or other? Cork handles or other material? Length and action on your favourite rods? Casting reels, round or low profile? A certain reel handle style? Spinning reels. Is there a general size you like the best? T handle or standard handle? AR switch or none? What are some of your definite preferences that you like best in your rods and reels?
  9. One of my better colors for topwater is Heddons baby bass. Bass color on top of these baits, with white on the bottom. I think most times it's the white underside that makes it work.
  10. Yes. I love fishing, and enjoy it also.
  11. My grandson bought this reel and stopped by last night to show it to me. Aiden got the 2500 size. Typical Shimano smoothness, and a weight of 9oz on this size. This is slightly heavier than a 2500 Sahara that I use. Plenty of line capacity for bass fishing. The reel seems to be well made, smooth, and durable also. And, if you like to backreel with your spinning reels, this one still has an AR switch, an up down switch, located on the side of the reel. If your in the market for a spinning reel that doesn't cost much, but is still a quality piece, this may be a good option. Price is 49.95.
  12. If I'll be out long enouph to bring a lunch, it's usually a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. The peanut butter has good protien, and the jelly gives you some sugar.
  13. I tend to go with shades of grape, purple, and blue in soft plastic baits, mostly always fished on the bottom. These are my confidence colors.
  14. You need deep and shallow water, with cover of some sort. Look for something different then the other cover. Learn to fish slowly and develop patience. Catching lunker bass is not easy.
  15. For me, the color that surprised me years ago was motor oil. I ended up using it quite a bit, and still do.
  16. I'll be going with a jig and pig. With a real.pork frog.
  17. I agree Catt. Big dissapoint for me also
  18. He'll be back in top form next week. My three fave teams are the Chiefs, Saints and Packers. I'm pulling for the Saints right now. Still too early to make a final prediction.
  19. Most seasons, I don't try or buy many new bass baits that I havnt used before. I still fish plastic worms, spinnerbaits, some topwater, with the occasional lipless or shallow crankbait thrown in. I do look at the new baits and teqniques to fish them, but I'm reluctant to buy them right away. I'm sure this comes down to confidence in a handful of baits I've had success with over the years, and with limited fishing time, I want to tie on something that I've done well on in the past. I'm wondering how many others do this also. Are you quick to buy new baits, and learn new teqniques, or do you stick with a handful of baits that have worked for you?
  20. We have a lot of bottom rigs for bass these days, but once I learned to fish a light T rig many years ago, it became hard to fish other baits. A t rig plastic worm is still my all around favourite.
  21. Got home tonight and found a new Mr. Twister catalog in the mailbox. They've got some good baits. They still have many of the classic Mr. Twister baits, and a couple of good looking new ones also. The 4" Tri -Com Sassy Swimmer looks like a good swimbait, and I plan on ordering some 4" Ringworms too. A whole group of ball head jigs, and grubs of all sizes for the light line fisherman. With all the new plastic baits on the market now, it's always good to see one of the older companies still hanging in there, and making a good product that's affordable in these tough times. My brother and I caught fish on Mr. Twister grubs and Phenom worms over 35 yrs ago. I'll be throwing some of them this spring too. They've always made a good line of baits, and still make them in Linden LA, as they have since the 1970s.??
  22. Most any type of Columbian coffee for me. A little cream, no sugar.
  23. I still like mono line for all my fishing.
  24. I agree here Catt. I've caught more bass on a simple plastic worm, than any other baits I've ever used.
  25. For me, the jig was the bait of 1000 cast. I fished them a lot before I caught my first jig fish years ago.
