Insomnia
I'm wondering if other BR members suffer with insomnia. I have no trouble falling asleep at 10:00 when I go to bed. Something will wake me up later, and I can't get back to sleep for another two hrs. The result is my sleep is broken up, and I feel burned out and tired when I get up. Any ideas on getting a better night's sleep?

Gamakatsu G-Finesse Hybrid Worm Hook
I've used the Gama G finesse hooks on small worms with good success. The ones Ive used are the Roboworm hooks with the plastic keeper on the hook shank.

Black baits.
I think it's also a misconception that black baits are only good in off colored or murky water. They can work well in clear water also. My brother and I caught a lot of bass on black Creme Scoundrel worms from a clear water pond when I first started bass fishing. The black Creme worms were all that was available to us at the time. I've done well on solid black Zoom Trick worms and Zoom.finesse worms on a clear water lake I fish weekly. I think it's a good idea to have some with you. It's kind of a universal color. Black could work anywhere.

Black baits.
Two ways I've done well on black plastic worms: fish as a traditional t rig in clear water, and, use a large (10" or 12") black plastic worm as a surface lure, slowly reeled over moss, pads, etc.

Black is one I always take with me.

for those who live in legal rec maryjane states
Legal here in Missouri. Seems like it will cause problems down the road for folks. I don't partake. Just like booze, whenever you put the word " legal" in front of any mind altering substance people go nuts with it. I don't want it around when I'm fishing.

Popper
I've done good on the original Storm Chug Bug. I have a 1/4 oz shad finish that's been great.

Shimano Miravel
I've looked at them and like them. I don't own one just yet, but by all reports it's a nice reel.

Farm Ponds And The Long Rod
I've gained access to a nice farm pond close to home.I plan on fishing this pond in the evenings, with an old Heddon fly rod my dad bought in the early 1960s. It's been thirty years since I did any fly fishing for bass. My questions for the fly rod men here: The rod is an 8ft glass rod. The reel is a single action made by Pflueger. Both rod and reel are in good working condition. Ive bought a new weight forward 8 wt line. I plan on using a short leader of 5 to 6ft. To start out, I'm using a level leader. I can order some tapered leaders later. I'll be using popping bugs. Mine are deer hair bugs, in various colors. I have a couple of hard cork bugs, but I remember these being harder to cast. This is something I've been wanting to try again for a while now. Now, I've got a good pond to explore. As a side note, on the bottom of the cardboard rod tube that came with this rod, is a worn sticker that shows what my dad paid for this fly rod in the early 1960s. It says 14.95. Does this setup sound like it will work well, for bass bugging a farm pond?

Hook Sharpener
I use one called an E Z LAP. Around 9 dollars.

Cold Snap+Fall Transition
My lake is clear except during the actual turnover. Then, its murky for a few days, before clearing again. I use the same clear water approach as through the year. Stay back- long cast. Don't cast shadows over fish. Light line, and finesse baits. Worms, tubes, smaller jig can all work. Overcast days with a little wind can be really good at times.

To loosen drags or not?
I loosen mine out of habit. Been doing it for a long time.

do you still consider yourself a rookie in fishing?
This is me also. I'm good at what I know, but haven't even tried some of the newer things yet. I'm not ready for the bass man old folks home just yet.

do you still consider yourself a rookie in fishing?
After all my years, I consider myself intermediate level at fishing. Not good, not bad. I'm always trying to improve, and I've learned some good stuff since I became a member of BR.

Old school music.
J Francho, you should Google an old song by Buck Owens, called "Bucks Polka". It was one of his instrumentel songs from the 60s. My dad used to like it. Buck plays some nice guitar, on a sparkle finish Fender.

Water
A-Jay, yesterday I had to install a new storm door on a house, as part of my part time job. A roofing crew was roofing a house next door. A five man crew, all from Honduras. One guy was coming down a ladder. He made it to the ground, then fell, and couldn't get up. They had to call an ambulance and take him to the hospital. His foreman showed me a large cooler full of bottled water that he keeps on hand every day for these guys. But, that guy wasn't drinking it. I felt bad for the guy, but I'm sure he learned a lesson here. And roofing in this heat is brutal work.

Color Preference?
We've had some good post in the past on the topic of color. It's a weird thing. Why would bass be hitting green then stop, and start hitting purple? I think most guys use what's worked in best in the past. Sometimes, it may not even be the color, but the retrieve that draws the strikes. It's part of the puzzle, and only the bass know the answer.
-
Color Preference?
This is true. This year my two best have been plain purple and motor oil, both with no flake.
-
Color Preference?
After trying so many colors over the years, I've narrowed it down to junebug, motor oil, black, and purple. Purple has been the best one, motor oil a close second.

Eating while fishing
I will say I eat very little in this hot weather. I like to start very early, and eat a light breakfast before I go. Eating even one sandwich in the heat tends to slow me down.

beer. i am NOT judging. i love beer.
I never take beer while fishing. I think I had my share of beer drinking when I was young. I'm not much of a drinker anymore. I don't have any tolerance for it. If I drink two beers, I'm half tipsy- especially in the heat. Be careful out there.
