  1. I have the Daiwa Tatula TTU701MRB-G. Fantastic crankbait rod for lures in the 1/2 ounce range. Highly recommended. I have it paired with a Tatula CT Type R 6.3:1
  2. Sweet deal! They show up at $119 each on their website
  3. Based upon input from the great folks on this website, I ended up getting the following: Daiwa DX 8’ Heavy swimbait rod Daiwa Lexa 300 Type Winn Berkley Big Game 20 lb mono I will be testing it out this coming weekend.
  4. Ordered this last night...hope it comes in one piece.
  5. Loaded up at TW and Austin Kayak. TW: Daiwa DX Swimbait rod, Shimano Citica, a bunch of line and terminal tackle. Austin Kayak: Old Town Topwater PDL 106!
  6. I like 6th Sense shakey heads.
  7. Tatula 150 of those 2 is better in my opinion.
  8. Are they worth the extra coin and do they actually work better? I guess that is up to personal judgment. I have several 110, 110 +, and 110 +2. I bought them on sale, so there is that. I have caught a lot of fish on the 110 specifically. I have also caught a bunch on the 6th Sense Provoke 106 and Berkley Cutter 90. If had to choose 1, it would be the 110.
  9. 25 days of Christmas was last year? A deal a day?
  10. 5 more years here. 5! My plan is to fish as much as possible and travel to those lakes I read about my entire life and fish them.
  11. I think there is a flyer out that has those on sale, I want to say for $119 each.
  12. I try to keep things simple and use 3/8 and 1/2 ounce mostly (I go heavier if fishing deeper than 20 feet). For color, I use green pumpkin and black/blue. Black/blue for darker water, green pumpkin for everything else. I use Rage Craw and Paca Craw for trailers in the same colors as the jigs. I might use a creature bait once in awhile as a trailer.
  13. This exactly. I did not have a swimbait rod, still don't (hopefully I will on BF), used what I had and only brought swimbaits on several fishing trips this year. I have only caught a few on those trips, but they were better than average fish and I am getting to learn a new technique. I live in the Northwest and use smaller baits: S-waver 168 is the largest I use, followed by IMA Glide Fuke 125 and 6th Sense Speed Glide 100. I am trying to keep it as simple as possible.
  14. I have: 6'10" Tatula MH rated 1/4 to 1 7' Dobyns Fury H rated 1/4 to 1 (I consider this rod MH) 7'3" Cronos MH rated 1/4 to 1 And then I have the Exage H rated 3/8 to 1.5
  15. I agree, stick to mid to higher end Daiwa or Shimano reels and you will be good to go. I really like the price/performance of Daiwa products personally. For the price, the Tatula SV TW is a fantastic reel. It can be purchased for around $150 if you look hard enough.
  16. OK excellent! I currently have a few heavy rods: 7'4" Tatula Frog, 7'6" Carbon Lite Flipping, and 7'2" Exage. The Exage is rated up to 1.5 onces. I was using the Exage for frogging, until I got the 7'4" Tatula. I am thinking I can repurpose the Exage for bottom contact. Or, get a new rod! Likely the latter, knowing the monkey.
  17. I am going to be using this for 1/2 and up. T-rigs and jigs.
  18. I am in the market for a bottom contact rod for worms/jigs. I am looking in the 7 foot range. My question is this: do you normally go MH or H for this technique?
  19. I use 10 to 12 lb for crankbaits, jerkbaits, and spinnerbaits. I will go heavier for worms/jigs - 14 lbs. I use Yo-Zuri Hybrid for treble baits (except jerkbaits) and Seaguar Invisx for bottom contact and jerkbaits. 50 lb Daiwa J-Braid for frogs. 20 lb big game for swimbaits.
  20. I have caught a ton of trout trolling to bass fishing spots using a small shad rap or shad dancer.
  21. I learned on a baitcaster (Abu Garcia 5500C) back in the 70s. It was a right handed reel. I have been using right handed baitcasters ever since. Spinning, I use as a lefty.
  22. Nope. I have used the casting rod for 2 season now. Zero issues. The spinning for 1 season. Zero issues. I use Daiwa reels on the rods, not sure if that helps the situation you are describing. I have never heard of that issue until now.
  23. I echo what A-Jay said: once you got the bug, it is near impossible to shake. Ask the monkey.
  24. The MH I have is pretty close to a MH compared to my other Daiwa rods. I cannot comment on the medium since I don't own one, but I would expect similar.
