getting back into spinning - can cast pretty accurately....usually... and feather a bit
Sorry to bust your bubble - I feather with my index finger, but still flip the bail closed manually with the cranking hand.

What type of line would you recommend for a medium heavy-MF casting rod used for throwing whopper ploppers, spinnerbaits and Chatterbaits with?
40# Sufix 832 - no leader for chatter/spinner/WP

Cause some of us absolutely hate pro-sports

Striker Plus 7 depth reading
Make sure the unit has a GPS fix then set the proper time-zone in 'Settings/Units/Time Zone'...the GPS will auto-sync the correct time.

No, PFD and no kill switch attached.
As I said - my PDF is on while I'm on the water - lanyard stays attached to that, so the kill switch is tripped anytime I leave the 'cockpit' area.

Drag slipping on my new abu garcia baitcaster
Or a base-backing of mono. Braid will slip on the spool if it's not 'secured' in some fashion...it's not the fault of your drag.

^ I think John has the winning answer. The younger crowd here who think about maybe trying to go Pro would get a heap of good information about what it really involves.

quality line counter?
I actually tested it with 10# Sufix 832 - for a 70yd measurement by the counter...hand measurement was 68.5yds - close enough for my purposes. It does require tension on the line before hitting the counter, and fiddling with the tension adjustment knob on the bottom-right in the pic.

quality line counter?
Sometimes simple is better - this thing has worked well for 4 seasons so far. https://www.amazon.com/Berkley-BALC-Clip-on-Line-Counter/dp/B005OTYW2E

Youngins'! Two months and I'll be 63.

No, PFD and no kill switch attached.
Nope - anywhere the Coast Guard has jurisdiction - which is all navigable waters. So yes, on Minnetonka you're required to use the kill switch if existent.

Ultralight bass fishing
Not my Avocets - the 1000, 2000 and 3000 (I have all three sizes) are different in the body as well as the spool.

No More License
We have one license level - everyone from 16 to 89, with few exceptions pays the same amount for a yearly ($25) or 3-year ($71) license. Active Military - free - your military ID showing active duty status functions as your fishing license. Disabled - free - "developmentally disabled or a veteran with 100 percent service-connected disability"

No, PFD and no kill switch attached.
Unless the motor did NOT have one installed originally - so older motors are exempt. I keep mine clipped to my PFD, which I wear 100% of the time I'm on the water...so to re-start the motor, I have to re-insert the clip into the switch...no forgetting the kill-switch.

The Death Of The Small Tackle Shop
I'm lucky that way Within 30 minutes of my place I've got Scheels, Fleet Farm, Omnia (for pickups), and Cabin Fever Sporting Goods...also if absolutely have to there's a DSG that still has a decent fishing selection. Within an hour - Cabelas, Sportsman Warehouse, Thorne Bros., Joes, and Capra. There's also a number of smaller shops in that 1-hour range...mainly bait, but they do carry tackle as well.

What size/brand of barrel snap swivels do you use for throwing heavy plastic spinning baits like the whopper plopper to prevent line twists?
X-3 - whether I'm tossing a plopper on my crank-rig loaded with 12# YZH or the MH/F loaded with 40# 832-no leader...no swivel needed. Carolina rigs and Donkey rigs are the only places I use a swivel for bass.

Ultralight bass fishing
Agreed - my 'ultra finesse' bass rig is a 1000 size reel, on a 7' L/F (1/16-3/8 lure rating) rod with 4# test. 1/10 and under jigs with small plastics (3" TRD worms, crawz, etc or 2" plastics) My only UL rig is a 1000 size reel (little big, but I got it at a discount) on a 7'6 UL (1/32-3/8 lure rating) rod with 2# test....it's one of my crappie rigs

The Death Of The Small Tackle Shop
When I moved into my place back in '86, there were 5 'mom&pop' tackle shops in the general area. Re-zoning, taxation changes and such have closed all but one. That one now is scheduled for removal as the city it's in wants to raze the strip-mall it's a part of and put an auto dealership in there....and that short (1 mile) stretch of road already has 3 auto dealerships.

St Croix Warranty
Well, USPS retail ground rate for a 7'x3" tube would be $24.70...so it doesn't seem that out of wack for two way (you sending in, them sending back)
