  1. I'm just dreading what the rest of the year has in store. I think it's time to rig the frog-rod for my next trip and find those lily-pad patches.
  2. My Scotty 140 pretty much doesn't know my down-scan transducer is there. I think it'd handle a side-scan one no problem. The 140 is a block mount - the Scotty 141 is the same arm but with a short track-mount. Add the universal sonar mount that clicks into the gearhead on the 141 and both your sonar and transducer are mounted in the same spot. (transducer arm is what's sticking below the sonar unit) https://scotty.com/product/no-141-kayak-sup-transducer-arm-mount-w-gear-head-adapter-3/
  3. That's what I call it up here in the 'Nord Country' though some around here call it a 'Weed Wacker'.
  4. I don't like dealing with the Y-bones, so I pass on northerns. Walleye are possible keepers, if they're the right size. I do selective harvest for bass - 2#-3# only, and only the odd number catches...#1, #3, #5, etc -> freezer.
  5. Wife claims I was born old and crabby. You're in good company, huZZah.
  6. That one would have gone into my freezer Little cold for summer...
  7. If you think you're accurate enough with that 9' rod - go for it. Me? I'll keep my 7' and 6'6" rods.
  8. Accuracy - bass fishers like to hit specific targets...the shorter the rod, the more accurate it is.
  9. I like it because it's very easy to adjust the depth. If I've been fishing at 12" but the fish move down, it's a quick thing to unclip the weight then reclip it to make it closer to the bottom. It's the reason I usually tie the hook at about 18" from the end of the line. Now I can clip it to whatever depth I want without having to cut and re-tie...the spare line just hangs if I've clipped it short, but I don't have to re-tie the whole rig to make it longer.
  10. Might change B through E - but A is locked.
  11. Does anyone else think about moving to Alaska?
  12. Ya - NADA has it at 7500 - so 1000 more. But as you say, it's the market. The dealer that has it is an authorized Suzuki service center - so that's taken care of. We still have to go through finances and see what we can juggle. But if it can be done before that boat sells...I may be on the water in it inside a month.
  13. Some lines it is - Berkley Fluorosheild and Kastking Fluorokote are two examples of that.
  14. He's fishing Lake Chickamauga this weekend for a MLF tournament - so probably a bit too busy to be perusing the forum.
  15. Wife has tentatively approved my getting an actual boat. Many of my possible fishing days are restricted due to wind...the canoe doesn't handle that well. We're going to go over finances - but I've already started looking for an 'affordable' boat...which means dealer who can finance and under $10k First one I'm looking at is a 2006 Alumacraft Classic 165T with a Suzuki DF50-ATL motor for $8495 Is that a descent boat for a solo fisherman - based on the 2006 Alumacraft catalogue I perused, it looks so. Reliable motor? Easy to maintain?
  16. Ya - Grays seems to attract the least experienced boaters for some reason...maybe they don't like the steep slope at Spring Park, the lack of docks at North Arm and Phelps, or something.
  17. No snaps, no swivels - direct tie to the split ring...and I replace all my split rings with either oval or teardrop Owners.
  18. Ya - we're nerds...LOL. Maybe we can convince Chris to do this one too, since he already has experience in this kind of 'field work'.
  19. Best for this is Gorilla Wood Glue
  20. Ya, that's why the 'IIRC'. I love to see a test on that too. I'd do it, but I can't afford to dish out the kind of money needed to get a good sampling of line for it.
  21. I think every state has a 'Mosquito Lake' - MN has one up in the Superior National Forest by the Canadian border.
  22. I love this test, Chris - bang up job They advertise 'less stretch' - but it's a mis-nomer...what FC has over Nylon (IIRC) is that it takes more force for it to START stretching. So two lines of the same test, one Nylon and one FC - the nylon will start stretching at a lighter weight than the FC, but once FC does start stretching, it ends up stretching more - as you've proved.
  23. ^ What he said. I've only got 75yds of 10# braid on my Pres-25 rig, backed by 6# mono. Then it's 6# InvizX for leaders.
  24. ^ This. If I want a 'stretchy' FC - Yo-Zuri Hybrid is my choice. Heck, it's my mainline on my crankbait-rig.
