The latest sale thread
I had one item that wasn't due in at TW until Dec 10 - but Academy had it in stock...arrives tomorrow. Just a Plano box, so nothing big.

Don't assume that something went wrong while submitting your order. I got an error message after hitting 'Submit', but the order went through anyway.

Certain brands only show the discount on the invoice - my Diawa rod was that way. If it isn't discounted, you can always cancel that one item.

Graphite vs Aluminum
I've got only one graphite reel left in my main arsenal...I've been moving to metal frames (3 aluminum, one magnesium for the others). No matter what they call it - graphite, carbon, resin - it's all 'plastic' and will flex under pressure. If you can afford it - go with the aluminum frame. Even less expensive reels have it (Diawa CA-80, Diawa Fuego CT, Shimano SLX, etc)...just check the manufacturers site to make sure...Shimano calls it Hagane...but it's a metal frame.

And I'm still not done - gonna turn it into a Bentley.

Power shot/Bubba shot pre rigs
Power shot rigs are so simple for me as I use braid-to-leader. Tie a hook on where you want it, thread a bullet weight on pointy end down, tie a split ring below the bullet weight...done.

Split ring preference...
For hooks #3 and larger - I use a #3 split ring. #8-#4 hooks get a #2, #10 and smaller get a #1. If I'm doing general adds (the gift package) where I'm using VMC 9650 hooks, VMC Stainless Steel split rings. Where I'm upgrading to Owner Stingers, Owner Hyperwire split rings.

Sun Dolphin Pro 120 Hull Protection
I'm having the same issue with my Sun Dolphin Scout-SS canoe. I'm looking at KeelSheild or Keel Guard - both basically glue on...easier to mold to shape to match the hull.

The 10% off gift cards is part of their 25 Days sale - which starts after BF ends. First day they put something on special, every day during the 25, they add another line/items to the sale. So it's separate from BF.

Canoe modification
No - the original plastic seats almost filled the space between the gunwale and keel giving it more rigidity. Removing those created the flex points. I'm just replacing that curved form of the original seats with the 'pillars'...since I use the area under the seats as tackle-bag storage under the mid and rear, and battery space under the front.

2-pcs casting rod for Tournament MP under $100.
I did some looking and one place noted that it's a discontinued model. Shame really.

Yes...more coming this winter. First up - electronics upgrade Original setup - Hook 2-4 with my tablet in a clamp mount above it...camera mount behind. Transducer was on the trolling motor. New setup - Garmin Striker 7CV on a RAM mount with a Scotty transducer arm. Paddle is being moved to the Port side with the bump-board moving inboard a little bit. That 'support' under the work-table is not to support the table...it's to stiffen the hull. Still have to get the one under the front seat. 3/8" thick aluminum plate, 2"x4" primed and painted, angle brackets on top to hold it in place.

2-pcs casting rod for Tournament MP under $100.
Diawa Aird-X 7'0" 2-piece MH/F (AIRX702MHFB) - about $55. I have the one piece and it's a very good rod for spinners, jigs, bottom contact in that price-range.

Think you are smarter than us older generation people?

What is the Best way to fish a rocky lake?
- Fishmas 2020
He'd make it odder though.- Winter fishing zoom call series
I'm clear for that - long as it's after about 9am CDT, anytime is good for me.- Winter fishing zoom call series
Gotta love VAT - my sister-in-law always complained about that (she lived in London). (stares) I knew shipping across The Pond was more expensive...but that's just unreal.- Winter fishing zoom call series
Wife made a suggestion - maybe a weekend afternoon occasionally - that way John doesn't have to stay up until OMG-AM to participate...maybe even con Tim Kelly to join in too. Otherwise, I'm open to anytime - being retired DOES have it's benefits. Right now - 3-days, 14-hours to X-Time...only one item on my list would be back-ordered.- What size braid with 10 lb FC leader?
If you tried to match diameter, you'd be really off...10# braid is about 2#-4# mono/FC diameter. Long as you use a good knot, the diameters don't have to match.- Backing Line for finesse fishing
For a spinning reel - to just where it starts to curve over...usually about 1/8" from the edge. Don't fill it right to the rim.- What size braid with 10 lb FC leader?
I'm looking at 10# braid on my finesse rig - to 8# leader. Finally learned the FG knot, so that's what I'll be using.- Winter fishing zoom call series
Nice seeing our friends from across The Pond, sir. TW sale goes live at 10pm my time...so it's good here.- Backing Line for finesse fishing
Both. Even on braid-ready spools, the braid can slip under tension. Something under the braid, be it mono backing or electrical tape grips the spool better preventing the slipping. I personally like around 70-80 yds of braid, so I put enough backing on to give me a topped spool with that amount of braid. I use a double-uni, but any good braid-to-leader knot (FG, Alberto, etc) can be used to join the lines.- Winter fishing zoom call series
Ya...you and Catt must be getting water-logged and wind-blown down there. Hope it gets better for you. - Fishmas 2020
