I'd stick with the 6:1 - that seems to be the prevalent gear ratio for cranks. I got a 6.3:1 Fuego CT as a B-Day prezzie from my wishlist - specifically for cranks.

If Dobyns is included in the TW 20% Black Friday sales - then the Fury 705CB would be $95...that's the one I'm looking at for my cranking rod.

Well, I DID take my Behind-the-wheel training in Northern MN during the winter - so I learned to drive in...crap...like that.

So does that mean I should bypass a Mojo Glass CB rod at the discount and just go with my first choice which was a Tatula XT - which is the better rod?

You don't really meet him...per-se, but his presence is felt most strongly (usually in your bank account) when visiting sites like Tackle Warehouse.

Part of it is thumb practice, part of it is brakes. I also set my tension for just a bit of side-play, and between the brakes and the thumb, I rarely have a backlash - maybe once or twice a trip, and they're usually cleared in a minute or two.

6'6" or 7' are my preferred lengths. I have one 6' now, but it's being replaced this winter with a 7'.
