  1. Found this on the bank about 5 years ago and it was stored away to this spring where it became a real producer. I see some similarity to a KVD so maybe its an older version. Any guess on model color scheme?
  2. Keep 2 sleeves of the core sizes hanging on the peg board. When I pull them that's the trigger to order more. Keeps me from realizing I'm low and having to panic spend $9 for a 3 pack at the local store.
  3. Have high hopes for the rusty craw version of of he creature hawg. Berkley offers buy 2 get 1 free which lessens the sting of burning through them.
  4. Find a pond where you can't not catch fish. Then you can drop the bobber for a wacky worm, trig, ect. and start working the understanding of the basics without them losing interest. If you can find a pond with high visibility even better, they can see how their actions impact the bait and also see the fish reactions. Then you can even pick out structure they can see and what it feels like moving through grass/wood/rock and how they need to control their movement to keep the bait in the best presentation.
  5. The waters I primarily visit have very few private docks. However, I've seen an increase on entitled "ownership" of swimmers/fisherman on the ramp docks. My jaw dropped this weekend as a swimmer commented to a friend of how inconsiderate I was cutting off their area to jump in as I was loading up. No swimming signs are posted everywhere, but hasn't been enforced since covid really. Growing up, if I would have even went past ankle deep in that particular lake there would of been a officer on me with a ticket in 5 minutes. Rereading this I sound like a grumpy old man...
  6. I'm a maxscent connoisseur but would say my drop shot skill isn't my strength. Maybe it's my style of fishing, but I have much more success getting bit with the hit worm over the flat worm. I've tried my best to force feed bass Rein's bubbling shaker and have been rather unsuccessful.
  7. The ned by-catch has been increasing the past week. Wish I had the boat/gear/time as the crappies were thick.
  8. Through 7 years of dating surf, fly, and bass fishing was a big part of our activities. She grew up fishing on her pap's boat and her brother became my fishing partner. Thinking about it now, I guess she's the reason I went from having a bunch of fly rods and various spinning rods to garage overflowing with rods, tackle, and a boat. Marriage, kids, and life really slowed down our fishing time together for the time being. I can't get her to sign up to fish a tournament with me, but I'm really looking forward to the day it happens. She would disagree, but I think her methodical approach pared my competitiveness will make us a team to be reckoned with.
  9. Certainly don't float, my glass set have taken a swim quite a few times but thankfully always recoverable. Similar to the responses above, if they aren't covering my eyes I almost always put them away as they aren't staying on your head. I had a pair of polycarbonate lenses I actually liked more then glass that are somewhere in the Atlantic. Next pair I will probably buy will be Oakely's with their Prizm Polarized lens. Was able to compare them to my Costas on a trout stream and it made a world of difference. ***Disclaimer I'm partially color blind and this may not be true for you***
  10. 2023 hasn't been a stellar year for fish up to this week due to time constraints with family, work, and general life things. Boat has only been out once, yet to fish a tournament, but worst of all didn't catch a fish of any species until April which would probably be the latest in the year since I was 6(20+ years). The past 3 breezy days have been outstanding for 45 minutes slip to the lake over lunch or after work trips. A solid class of prespawn fish have been predictable on hold on shale ledges in 2-5 FOW. Once I figured it out Monday I spent the last 2 lunches cruising down the bank and calling my shots with a squarebill. Tomorrow the wind dies and temp rises 20 degrees so I'm guessing today will be the last of it. However the shad spawn is right around the corner for some early morning fun in short windows.
  11. I would say it was a maxscent bait that was in the water for a while but appendages don't match. Had a 4" create hawg swell to the size of my hand after sitting in a bucket all summer.
  12. The flat worm gets all the press, but the maxscent creature hawg has done some serious damage for me. They are on the fragile side, but by far my biggest producer over the last few years, Rage bugs and pit boss still make the trip, but pick up the maxscent first.
  13. Story has really blown up. Have been sent it or asked if I saw it many times over from non fishing friends. They say all publicity is good publicity but the whole story is just wooof. It's almost like they were asking to get caught with that amount of weight and tournament format. In the last 5 years of local tournaments we've had some drama. Someone snagging a sunken milk crate with lid the week of a tournament that was very poorly handled. It was all theories of fish being stored and blasted on social media vs catching someone in the act. I know of a individual that baits with blended pet food in the prior weeks to draw bait fish. Shady, but not sure it breaks any rules and he rarely places.
  14. Make a friend or 2 you can trust backing down or loading your boat? One has to be the first to load but it can help speed up the process vs everyone going solo. Last Saturday I somehow pulled loading duty and trailed 3 boats in 15 minutes without much more then a "hey you got me"? Being back and loaded early was also telling of how my day went fishing.
  15. Purchased a Daiwa Tatula Elite 7'6" Ml Feider after reading about it a few times on the forum. Picking up any of my other spinning rods to fish a ned isn't the same since. Not sure bass pro carries it though.
  16. Cat's whiskers???? Used to tie white sucker spawn using the belly hair of a white long haired cat and caught many steelhead. Never thought of using their shed whiskers.
  17. Central PA has many great fly fishing opportunities for a range of species. Within a hour you can be on top notch small mouth, trout, carp, muskie, and snakeheads have started showing up in a few bodies of water.
  18. I have about a 45 minute drive to the susky but don't make it nearly enough. It can be feast or famine when it gets this low. Brother and I used to wade so sections and sight fish 20"+ channels in the cuts. You didn't stick around the white fly hatch at dusk?
  19. I use them to to strategically seal up the packing slip so the wife doesn't see the lines of $$$$.
  20. I do it on a few rods. My recommendations are; Find a line conditioner you like and use it often. Can't go wrong with KVD. Use another line as backing to fill the spool. I only put on 80-100 yds of fluorocarbon. Much cheaper and not as costly to do frequent changes while also keeping the spool "full". I don't see why you couldn't use it for a year as long as you take care of it. On some of my less used rods the fluro has been on since last spring and still performs as needed.
  21. While there are species of lizards in Pennsylvania, they don't frequent the waters I fish. Bass in Pennsylvania still will eat a plastic lizard. Edit. I guess there are salamanders but the point still stands.
  22. RES do catch fish.
  23. One of my local circuits somehow managed to wrangle in a few local sponsorships. They were advertising much larger pots then any of the others which had me intrigued. At the first event it was a bit disappointing to find out it was $500 coupon at a used car dealer and $100 coupon for vehicle detailing combined the the maximum entry fees allowed via permit for a total cash value. I blame the coupons for my poor performance that day.
  24. March was the last time I made an expenditure until some restocking this month. Plan is replacement mode for the next few years. Basics of soft plastics, line, and terminal tackle. Line has been my biggest expenditure in 2022 and most likely will be the same in 2023. I'm compulsive over changing line out several times a year. Seeing $120 for 1200yds of FC sniper has encouraged me to not change out so often.
  25. Video as requested. On side note, I had one of the best days of my fishing career on a cicada hatch in the general region of the video.
