Do you categorize your PB’s?
Couldn't tell you the weight of my PB bass, only put fish to a scale when its the format. About ten years ago we started a family record for species by length with my Dad and brother. Requirements are a photo of length or verified measurement by member. It's now a spreadsheet that has a wife and niece holding some records. Evolved into quite the family battle and talking point. Once a few more of the young ones get their name on the list I plan of making something out of it.

The Goat
Beefy is a good word to describe them. There's enough beef to them that a 1/16th would have an incredibly slow fall rate. Might have to pull out a bucket and play around. Flipping them might give that little different presentation. Guaranteed to hold up to some abuse as well.

The Goat
Picked up a few packs to checkout as I'm a fan elaztech products. First thought is they carry some bulk compared to the other non trd baits. Not exactly sure what I will do with them when it warms up. Looks like they will have some kick as a trailer, have the size to trig, and enough elaztech to put some float on the back of a jig. Bring on the warm weather.

5 confidence baits
1. Ned. Under 1/8th and smothered in megastrike. 2. Anything in the Maxscent Line. T-rig, drop shot, shakey head. 3. Siebert Fogy with a rage tail trailer. 4. Some type of swimbait on a flashy swimmer. 5. Hopefully whatever I decided to tie one.

20 hp restricted lakes
Have some experience with a 20 hp on a 175. A fully loaded 175 with 2 people isn't going to get up. Looking at 11-13 mph in flat conditions and you will be pushing some water. Playing with weight distribution can pick you up a couple mph. Having the rider sit towards the nose would pick up 2mph. If you only ever planning on having a 20 on it, look at taking out the gas tank out. Unless you are running around on a bigger PA lake, 5 gallons is going to keep that 20hp running all day. Never was in a situation that I didn't think the boat/motor would handle, just might take a little longer.

That Thing You Do. . . . .
Super simple one....changing cadence on a moving bait within a retrieve. A few people in my fishing circle who can certainly out fish me at times struggle with this. Have showed them time and time the effectiveness of killing or changing the speed of a chatterbait, yet I watch them just crank it back to the boat at a steady retrieve.

6th sense baits
Had some great days using a suspending quake around grass last spring. Haven't look for awhile but they weren't easy to come by last year.

Where does a bass “go” when you release it?
A observation I've made after fishing a few days after a weekend tournament where all fish were released at the ramp. The deeper structure located near the ramp often carries an abundance of fish on the graph compared to the typical view of the area. How long the fish hold there is probably determined by many factors. Triggering these fish to bite on the other hand can be feast or famine.

Latest Catch Pics Thread
Wish I would of taken a picture of the fish, but you can imagine. Weighed it in as the lunker as we knew we didn't have it with the other fish. 18.25"+ large mouth tipped the scales at 1.96 lbs. Rattiest bass I've saw.

Any Aquarium owners out there
Bring back an old thread rather then starting a new one. Fast started a 55 gallon tank back when everything started shutting down. Nothing crazy, will be setting up a 120 to move these guys into once a new house is selected. The 2 clowns battled at first as the black ocellaris had a 6 week head start on the clarkii. Now the two of them and the blenny travel as a pack around the tank. Gone through some struggles as it wasn't an ideal setup.

Anyone Here Microfish?
Look up breeder tanks in the aquarium world. Will serve the same purpose.

Skipping
When moving up on a skipping situation start skipping cast before actually need the bait to skip. By the time you need to be accurate you will have a few cast in and a feel for what you need to do. If your bank beating you can "skip" a whole stretch without the bait going under a single target, but its still practice for hitting spots.

What do you always have tied on...
This=$$$$$$ Don't be afraid to throw them on a shakey head.

They Just Don't Work Here
You might be onto something because this lake has a boatload of blue herons around it. Interesting take. A lake I fish regularly has nesting eagles and ospreys. Have given up throwing any top water if any light is present. However on the darkest of nights, the surface comes alive.

Big bass only
Fish 2 different styles of lunker tournaments. Can fish solo or with a partner. Wednesday night format; Nightly payout- 40% payout to the big fish, 20% to 2nd. 35% to yearly pot and 5% to the club. 12 week season- Four biggest bass from all 12 weeks pay out. Must fish 10 weeks to qualify. Dead fish cannot be weighed in. Thursday night is similar, expect there is a total weight calculation at the end of the year by angler. Always controversy of a boater using the co's bigger fish to boost total weight. I'm a bigger fan of Wednesday's format as it doesn't promote putting a 15" fish in the live well. Most guys/ladies don't bring anything under 3 lbs. to the scales.

Bass guys outfishing Musky guys for Musky
Posted before, caught 2 40" fish a hour apart on Canada craw trd. This year was the first spring I didn't catch a musky on bass gear but had plenty of follows.

Chances a lure is still in a log the next day?
Couldn't get a chatterbait off a submerged log and ended up snapping. Snagged that same bait 2 weeks latter with another chatterbait. As long as no one beats you to it, its still there and will be usable.

Chatter Baits : Not The Best Option For Warm Water ?
My preconceived thoughts on "chatterbait conditions" were thrown out the window this week. Water temp near 90, calm slick water, 8-12 FOW off a boulder point, no weeds. Weren't tuned in on swimbaits on underspins. Both the bass and catfish were reacting to the chatter. Looking back on it should have tried a spinnerbait and scrounger but time was limited. This lake has had a shad eruption and the fish have changed their summer patterns vs the last few years.

Keitech question
My go to is it was probably something small and only had the tail. Last week in a tournament had something I couldn't stop from running under the boat. Straightened a ned head out with drag functioning first thing in the morning. 7 hours of it had to be a stripper or channel.
-
Keitech question
Interesting. I couldn't connect on them last week using a flashy swimmer popping off larger rocks. Twice I lost a keitech and didn't touch the fish. I'll back in that spot tomorrow and will switch it up.

Summer Wading
This will sound counter productive, but in summer I wear a leaky pair of stocking foot breathable waders. Gives the comfort of protection when bush wacking through poison and briers while also keeping you cooler in the water. Also adds a sense of security when you are standing chest deep in the middle of the Susquehanna river.

Upcoming Tournament on a Heavily-Pressured, Small Lake
Will be in a similar situation this weekend. Current plan is to jump 3-4 spots looking for active fish in the first 60-90 minutes. After that it will be hours of grinding a 50 yard area that has producing a better class of fish. Predicted storms could change this.

Little Juniata River
There are 2 branches of the Little J that converge downstream from Alexandria. The Frankstown branch is warmer water and I would expect a heavy population of smallmouth and possible musky. There should be several access points to float depending on water conditions. The other branch known as the Little Juniata is a world class trout stream. When fly fishing was my major hobby I had some unforgettable days in the 13 mile catch and release section. Also caught the unintended smallmouth on most trips. Depending on the section you could possible float smaller areas if the water conditions are right. I would recommend at least picking up the sage for a few hours. The biomass of brown trout is hard to find elsewhere and there are some very large fish haunting the deeper pools.

Just WOW
There's things worth a broken rod, I'd say news of shrinkage would be near the top. Here my 2nd broken rod of the year, butt end snapped on a basically vertical hook set in 20 FOW.

Coping with the crowds this year
I have a growing fear for safety on the lakes around me. The increase of people getting kayaks/boats and not having a clue on general operation is alarming. Something is going to happen. Tournaments start back up next week, game plan might be to start the furthest from any launch possible. The ramp at weigh in is going to be a circus.
