Since it’s like a bottle of 80 proof liquid smoke, I figured why not. Strangely, it adds that fresh hay taste you get a few seconds after you take a sip to the ribs, instead of the smoke flavor.

I'M DEAD. NOW WHAT?
I’m not going to die for at least another 60 years. I already decided.

Note: that was a joke (not that there’s anything wrong with it).

No Shad lakes
@Bluebasser86 this is why I never know if it’s match the hatch or throw something they might like better than the hatch.

Why 20+pound line?
20lbs of drag is great for 100lb line. For me, this is never.

Wake from big boats and bass.
Stirring up food = fish. Bass will come back when commotion stops. Some bass go right into the commotion because they aren’t targeted by predators when there is a commotion.

Finding a secret spot. Do you have one?
I don’t have any. There’s too many people around here. Whether by chance or skill, many people have found anywhere I fish, even before I did. I don’t like to promote this, but some of the most overfished spots are still the best—with the right techniques and target species.

No Shad lakes
They will still eat shad and especially shiners. No matter what anyone says, I’ll never believe anyone that says that bass *like* to eat bluegills. Would you eat shrimps with the shells on them if you can take them off with your hands? Bass don’t have hands, so their only option is eat something else with no spikes on it. I’ve seen bass bleeding in the water after eating whole bluegills. I’d eat them whole if I had no hands and would die from starvation, too.

Crayfish trap tips?
I got a trap from BPS, they say to set it partially open to get more of them in. Not sure if that’s true or not. Only advice I have is use one extra high quality cat food can, one that’s better than sardines for humans and one of the cheapest cat or dog food cans you can find. Stab a few holes in both with a knife and set the trap. That got the most craws for me. Hide it, because, at least around here, people always steal them or empty them. I don’t use it anymore because I found out it’s illegal here.

The official "Who's drinking tonight?" thread
I now have a couple bottles that weren’t finished, because I cut back on how much I’ve been drinking to just Friday and Saturday. Im one of those people that gets on a kick of whatever and does it too much for a while. I’m on a scotch kick, so I stopped tonight and grabbed a bottle of Ardbeg 10. Yes, it’s Thursday, but I had to try the pleated stuff. Can’t drink tomorrow. It’s good. I see why people like it. But, seriously, I’m a little more sweet and fruity and delicately complex than this ? Tastes like a wood burning engine on a wooden ship that’s burning too much oil in an ocean of seaweed. It goes good with home made whipped cream, though. Definitely adding it to my ribs Saturday. No problem drinking this. I used to drink jagermeister and rumpleminz. Waaaay better than that. Plus, according to the bottle it’s related to my Viking heritage.

Picked up some Aberfeldy 12 on a whim Friday. Was terribly disappointed to learn it’s the base of Dewars. Hated it. There are so many awesome alternatives at this price. But then, at some point, I found that if I use one ice cube where I’d normally use two, then melt the ice into it and let it come back up to around room temp, it gets an amazingly good chocolate liqueur taste to it, that tastes like there’s also a sprinkle of dry cocoa powder in it. Surprising. Thinking about going with Ardbeg Ten next week. Not sure?

What are you grilling/smoking with?
Attempted an over the coal/wood fire porterhouse and a reverse seared porterhouse recently. Both were just meh. The reverse sear was overcooked. The open fire was burnt on the outside. Will make a third attempt in the iron skillet tomorrow. Not everything comes out good. Trial and error, it happens.

Keep it or get rid of it? Sporting items we no longer use
Mine, too. My wife will just throw it out. If it might have value I may get an opportunity to object or sell it. But everything else goes. Though, she doesn’t touch fishing gear in my fishing closet or the garage. There are quite a few $500-1,000 specialized setups I use only 5 or 6 times every 5 or 6 years in there.

Myths And Other Non Truths
It has never happened to me. Not on any spool, even reeling down to smooth Bakelite or chromed stainless steel. I regularly cast down to my spool knot without a problem. You just need a tail at least half the width of the spool arbor and a tight knot. On modern reels, with textured and dimpled spools it’s impossible.

Do you carry cash?
Rarely. Only when I go somewhere where they don’t take my debit card. I read that if you use your card it’s harder to track how much you spend. I find the opposite to be the case. I can see every penny I spent in my account. Meanwhile, last weekend, my son found a wallet with around $200 in it. We gave it to the store we were at. Hopefully the guy goes back there. Happened to me a few years back on a day I was actually carrying cash and the guy that found it gave it to the store and I got it back.

Couldn’t tell difference between my cheaper and more expensive rod….
Yep. It’s not even worth it to go fishing. You’re never going to catch anything and even if you do, you’ll never be able to enjoy it, because spending tons of money on gear is what makes fishing enjoyable. IMO, in all seriousness, the spending money on gear is just a separate hobby. I’d still take actually fishing over buying gear because I do the most wasteful spending on gear when I don’t have the time to get out and actually fish.

Couldn’t tell difference between my cheaper and more expensive rod….
Im usually repeatedly informed by the internet that they are cheap and that I should be embarrassed for using such trash. And that I only don’t fish a $500 rod is because I’m jealous that I can’t afford one. All while getting laughed at when I whip out a waste of money $300-400 setup anywhere I go. Which is why I enjoy fishing a Kistler magnesium that cost around $400 and a Tatula CT that was over $500. Those same people wouldn’t know the difference.

Couldn’t tell difference between my cheaper and more expensive rod….
OE…nice…..we used to drink that in the bleachers during gym class in High School, instead of putting on the shorts and jogging pants. Those were the days. i don’t even know what kind of rod or reel I got my PB on. All I remember was thinking I hate this rod. This rod sucks. I’m never going to catch anything on this.

Couldn’t tell difference between my cheaper and more expensive rod….
I’d rate this as where sensitivity is king, especially over feeling bottom. With a sensitive rod, you literally feel a tick or thump when your line moves. This isn’t possible with less sensitive rods. With softer rods, IMO, this is the hardest thing for manufacturers to get right. ^ Agree.

I feel so un-smart when I speak with an electrician.
When I took the ugly, too big, ceiling fan, over my bed, that came with my house down, it weighed about 100 pounds. It was held up by a tiny little screw. I later saw it was recalled and it was advised to remove it for anyone who had one because it was a potentially fatal hazard. I couldn’t believe something that heavy could be rocking back and forth on a tiny crap metal screw on a crap metal ring mount.

I feel so un-smart when I speak with an electrician.
I got zapped trying to move the box for an outlet to run surround sound speakers. Got shocked through a visegrip that I was trying to move the metal box with and got stuck to the current. It went all the way up my arm, but not across my chest, because I was using one hand. I still felt it in most of my body. Was able to push away from the wall with my left hand. Not cool. 20 amp line. Ever since then, I cut the breaker. The surround sound is great, though ?

After whipping up some crab chowder, with bacon, Canadian bacon and cheddar cheese. To go with some fried chicken. A couple prune plums and Arberlour. Really brings out the candied prune flavor in this. Definitely dessert. Edit: Ironically, I signed on posted this and then saw the electrician thread. That wall outlet is the one I tried to move when I got shocked. My ESP again. ?
