  1. Ugh, don't remind me. I sat on a drop-off for an hour working a skitter pop, assuming bass were using it to push shad to the surface, only to see an absolute unit of a carp breach about 10 feet in front of me.
  2. I've been trying to kayak fish on Chickamauga and it's been a struggle this time of year since I don't have electronics and my stretch of lake doesn't have much in the way of obvious structure. One place I could try that I haven't yet would be a relatively close boat ramp, specifically this one. What would be the strategy for something like this? Just drag a c-rig and creature up the hill? Is there any kind of etiquette I'd have to worry about in terms of not being in the way of people who are loading and offloading?
  3. Would the blade mess with the action at all? As much as I like flukes, the only method of fishing I have any confidence in is the quick twitch + pausing and letting it take a long swooping dive. Problem is, Fluke Jrs don't always like to do that and will often get picked up in the current and pull the line horizontal instead.
  4. Something like a 1/0, 1/16oz size maybe. I only looked at a few brands and they all tend to have 3/0 as their smallest size. The bass seem to like the smaller size right now, but I hate how slow they sink.
  5. The bass obviously wouldn't be eating the bugs themselves, but every inch of shoreline with overhanging trees is littered with small/medium sized panfish waiting for the swarms to hit the water. Would this cause a number of bass to move back shallow to key on these guys?
  6. This brings up an interesting thought. How many times do you think people have fished what they thought was a boulder, only for it to actually be a fridge or washing machine or something that someone dumped in the water?
  7. I randomly bought a pack having never used them before. I feel like it'd really tick off night time bass.
  8. I get the whole concept of line watching for slack line presentations, and I've been catching fish doing it, but how are you supposed to detect bites for stuff like wacky rigs, jigs, and deadsticked flukes at night? Do you just not use them?
  9. I haven't narrowed down much of anything, but I've mostly looking mid-level ones. Something like a T or H series Ascend or a Pescador Pro. Not wanting to spend anything more than 800 bucks. 6'2 170ish
  10. Is there much difference between the two? I'm leaning towards getting a 10 foot because its smaller size would make it easier to load and offload, plus they're a bit cheaper. Does that extra 2 feet help in stability, tracking, speed, etc enough to justify the extra hassle and cost? I'd be mostly fishing relatively small and uncrowded reservoirs. Biggest water I'd ever take it on would be the rural end of Chickamauga a few times a year, where the only thing that'd really worry me is getting swamped by a barge.
  11. Something like this Do they actually work well? I'm wanting to get into kayak fishing and I don't want to eat ****, flip, and lose all my gear. I already lost one rod recently and it wasn't a very good feeling. My other option is just leashing them, but I feel like all of the cordage everywhere would get in the way and annoy me enough into not using them.
  12. FishUSA is giving away a free Quantum Throttle reel with the purchase of a St. Croix rod. Seems like a pretty tempting deal to me at least. How are St Croix's lower-end rods like the Triumph line? My principal bass rod right now is a Speed Stick combo I got at Walmart for like 60 bucks. Would a St Croix be much of an upgrade?
  13. I've done it with a Pit Boss and a naked chatterbait. It looks cool, but I haven't caught anything with it.
  14. Didn't manage to get a picture of it but I caught an 8ish pound flathead on one of these little panfish jigs. Funnily enough, I was trying to catch bluegill to use as catfish bait.
  15. I think that'd be a fun way to try to make money one weekend.
  16. I've tried this with normal slip bobber stoppers and they always manages to come through my weight somehow.
  17. They're not advertising it yet, but Tacklewarehouse's sale is already live.
  18. Yes it's the millionth "what reel should I buy" topic. Looking for a reel under 70 bucks to put on my general-purpose cheapo Speed Stick. I've had my heart set on a Pflueger President since I started kicking around the idea, but I've recently been really looking at the Mitchell 300Pro mainly because it'll match my rod. I know it's a stupid reason, but the blue/gray and gold on the President would look really dumb on a lime green and white rod. Is there really much difference between the two? Is the Mitchell better even? I don't want to get an inferior reel just for aesthetics.
  19. I've probably give East Lynn a whirl some time later this summer then. Probably after I get a kayak. Last time I went was about 10 years ago. I didn't catch crap, there were floating patches of garbage in alot of the coves, and I'm fairly certain that there are people living on Twelvepole that straight-pipe sewage into the creek. Gave me kind of a negative stereotype of the area. What about the southern end of the Guyandotte? Could it be productive outside of trout season? I know around where it empties into the Ohio is allegedly good for muskie, but that's a bit above my paygrade at this point.
  20. Is there anything stopping me from just using a toothpick? I've heard that it allegedly causes wear on the line and eventually breakoffs, but most people I've heard that from are also trying to sell some sort of innovative gadget to use instead.
  21. FishUSA is doing 10% off for orders over $50 today only. Do they normally do a sale for the 4th, or should I just go ahead and pull the trigger on my cart now?
  22. What does the mushroom jig head do that a regular ball head couldn't accomplish?
  23. Who all normally does 4th of July sales? I have a cart that I'm holding off pulling the trigger on in hopes of a sale.
  24. Oh, and my PB (which was only like a 4ish pounder) was on a 1/4 ounce Beetle Spin.
  25. I haven't done enough experimenting to substantiate my claims, but I've been putting a drop of superglue on my double uni before doing the final cinch down and it seems to prevent break offs a bit. I caught a few oakfishes last time I was trying to teach myself how to skip under overhangs and was able to pull down fairly thick branches freeing my lure.
