  1. If you're ok with losing him as a fishing partner, and maybe as a friend, I would just tell him that you can't afford to keep taking him fishing. The next time he wants to go, he has to show up with his own lunch and baits. Don't let him walk over you. If he shows up again empty handed, don't take him.
  2. Has anyone actually seen a 50th Anniversary Ranger Icon, other than pictures or online? I'm waiting for my local dealer to get one in the shop so I can check it out and find out exactly what is included on this boat to make it worth $100K
  3. A friend called Lowrance, looking to buy a couple Hook5's. The guy he talked to said the refurbed Hook7's were cheaper. He said they have new guts and the same warranty as new units. I have not seen the units or talked to my friend since he got them so I don't know about the cosmetics.
  4. Reviewers said this is a scam. Seller is overseas
  5. Clarification- the lure is a prototype, available to the public at a later date
  6. Here's a question that's been floating around my group of friends with no definitive answer. We all know that the tournament circuits are trying to "level the playing field" so everyone has the same chance to win. Whether it be a cut off period, not being able to gather outside info, only being able to fish water accessible to everyone else, things like that. Whatever they come up with, it's with the idea that it's the same for everyone so no one has a decided advantage. Here's the question. Say a fisherman is sponsored by a certain lure company and the company develops a lure that just plain catches fish all the time, under every circumstance. Is it an unfair advantage if their sponsored guy has them to use in tournaments when they aren't available to anyone else? My group of friends is divided in their answers, I'm curious what you guys think.
  7. Tahoe is not known as a bass lake. Although a few are caught, not many people fish for them. The four main species fished for are kokanee salmon, brown trout, lake trout (mackinaw) and rainbows. A couple of good areas to fish from the bank are the Tahoe Keys, Kings beach and Cave Rock. Booking one of the charters would be a good idea.
  8. If you're using a coated braid, scrape a few inches of the end of the braid between your fingernails to take the coating off so the line can grip itself.
  9. If both of you got snagged and tried to get it loose by putting your thumb on the spool and pulling, you dug the braid into the spool of line. This will result in what you're experiencing. I carry a 6" wooden dowel in the boat for snags when I'm using braid. Tie the end of the line to an object and walk the line off the reel until it's not dug in and reel it back on. When you get hung up, wrap the line around the dowel a couple of times and pull with the dowel, keeping the pressure off the spool. Hope this helps
  10. Not all inexpensive sunglasses are made the same. If you decide to get an inexpensive (cheap) pair be careful. If you wear them all day and your eyes sting, itch or bother you at the end of the day when you take them off, toss them. They are going to damage your eyes. Quality glasses are expensive for a reason
  11. Dry everything with a hair dryer
  12. myQ works with Liftmaster and Chamberlain openers, not sure if any other brands. It tells you if your door is open and if you have access to wifi, lets you open and close it from anywhere
  13. All braided lines that have a coating will make this noise. If you watch the fishing shows on tv, you'll hear this noise almost every time an angler is reeling in a fish. It's worse when you have tension on the line, such as when you have a fish on. This noise drives me crazy, that's why I use Daiwa Samurai or J braid, both are 8 strand and silent.
  14. Thanks for all the suggestions guys. I'm going to have to take a closer look at them. These might be a little awkward to use if you're by yourself
  15. Can anyone recommend a good pair of cutters for cutting hooks? I want to keep a pair in the boat just in case someone gets hooked. I know about the method to get hooks out if the bard is embedded, but I want to be able to cut the hook if it goes all the way through
  16. I use a 12" aluminum rod. I have two rubber grommets on it with a spring and two giant washers in between them to adjust tension. I just clamp the rod in my shop vise
  17. Anyone here hunt with airguns? What do you hunt and what gun(s) do you use?
  18. it's so hot the lizards are wearing flip flops
  19. Gloomis IMX SJR 781 with a Shimano Stradic Ci4 1000
  20. Anyone using the J braid multi color? I'm wondering how easy it is to see on top of the water
  21. If you haven't already bought it, try using hydrogen peroxide in your live wells. It's a lot cheaper and puts air into the water. About 1/4 cup per well.
  22. This post should be for ALL boaters, not just those of you who fish from a kayak. I always wear mine when fishing from my bass boat. If you fall out of the boat, there's always the chance you can hit your head on the side or break an arm or leg. I always hook up my kill switch when the I move too, even if it might only be a short way. One of the rules of my boat is any passenger must wear his/her life jacket when the outboard is running. It's their choice to wear it or take it off when we stop to fish. You never know what can happen, and if it does, it will happen when you aren't prepared.
  23. Why not use them since you have them? Here's the real thing if you want to buy them https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Huddleston_Swimbaits/catpage-SWMHUDDLE.html
